Hi, I’m Matt, figured this would be a good place to show off the minis I’ve painted. I played a bit of Warhammer Fantasy back in 2003-2004, think it was 6th edition. I’ve mostly just been a fan of the lore all these years, until I heard about Old World in July 2024. Since then I’ve been diving into the hobby… stripping and repainting old models and getting new Games Workshop and 3D printed models.I know I’m not exactly the best painter… so far I just don’t want to keep track of a wet pallet and paint mixing. Writing this after 3 months of marathon painting… I wish I’d invested more into speed/contrast paints, maybe trying out slap chop. But, techniques like zenithal and slop chop still somehow feel scary to me, and overall I’m happy with my sloppy style. It at least looks better than “2 thick coats” most of the time, and I think I pass the 3 foot rule 🤷♂️

Just finished some simple Kit-bashing for my General. That’s a Highland Mini’s model of a royal Pegasus, with a GW duke’s head. The decal’s I got from several Etsy vendors- might have gone a bit overboard on them, but if that ever bothers me more I think I can still add or move them around if I want to.

A Highland Mini’s Wizard on horse. I think the model was meant as an Empire type, but I’ll be using him as an evil outcast Wizard. Based the colors of Lex Luther.
I figure he’s an evil advisor type Wizard, a “the green mage” type of title, either in tribute or as a mockery of the Bretonnian Green Knight.

The GW Gandalf box on square bases :)
After the fact, I realized I could have put the cart on a smaller base, and 50x75- and use it as a bretonnian “Grail Reliquary” proxy. Oh well, it’s on a 50x100 mm base instead.

Took a stab at the Lord with Great Weapon. Might use the kid as a wizard or war machine crew.

Best results yet with model water projects, Highland Miniatures unit filler. That’s a Grail decal that I stuck on after the first “pour”, and 2 more pours on top of it. There was no reaction from the decal’s micro set and micro sol :) But be warned, the water seems pretty easy to smudge now that it’s dry :(

WIP on scatter terrain ponds.
The first one used woodland Scenic’s realistic water, and I’m pretty sure it’s reacted poorly to PVA glue, very cloudy result. I think I see at least one crack, and nothing I can do with the little bubbles.
Next attempts will be following a tutorial using Vallejo Still Water instead.

Some pics of my Bretonnian pond.
The “chapel” is not glued to the pond. There’s a magnet on it- I’m hoping that will be easier to transport that way. I’m also working on some slightly modular hills, all 10mm thick, nice and easy to take to a hobby shop for a game. (Chapel is I believe from Highland Minis, one of their “fantasy fillers”
Next step in the plan is to use American Scenic’s Realistic water. Hope that works 😅 I’m debating if I should add some blue or green contrast paint into that pour when it happens.
If you’ve used that brand before- let me know! I’m pretty nervous about it

Some pics from my 5th match- ty Matt “Doomscroll” for the pictures and the match!
It was my first win! Those grail knights really pull their weight, and did most of the fighting.
Peg knights did ok at first, ran down a unit of empire knights early, but they would be stopped and run down by the terrifying tank.
Still, a 1466 to 932 point win felt great :)

WIP Knights of the Realm on foot, mostly GW models and some third party models in there too.
This is the second time I’ve painted the GW ones. They were the first models I painted since I heard about Old World in July. I decided to repaint them to better match the style of all the other models I’ve painted since.
After doing all the sword and board guys in a red uniform, I’ve decided to do the great weapon guys with different colors, not unlike my mounted units. Dunno if I’ll do any quartering yet… probably not though.
Also stripping two more, one a swordsmen who I’m gonna try and turn into a great weapon guy, and the standard bearer.

WIP Bretonnian Knights of the realm.
A Highland Minis sculpt, printed by Imperial Miniatures, Decal designed by TokenHobbyist.
The model was meant to be a Knight Errant, that’s why it’s carrying a helmet. That type of unit is supposed to have no helmet, or a very simple one without decoration. I absentmindedly stuck the wrong head on the model… so I leaned into the mistake. That helmet he’s carrying is like, a family heirloom and his heraldry. Now he’ll be the new banner bearer of my Knights of the realm, once I finish with his base decorations.

Just finished the Highland miniatures unicorn. The GW damsel and her two horses are magnetized, so I can swap em back and forth.

6 Highland Miniatures “Gallia” mounted yeomen. I’m only going to use the 5 of them, without the command group. They’re basically 5 wounds that give my wizard the reserve move special rule :)
I don’t plan to use the command group or the other 2 spearmen in any lists, so they’ll move to the back of the to-do list.

New pile of shame to work through after some late night priming :)
I’ll admit I over ordered. Only needed 7 men at arms for my list.
I’m only gonna use 5 mounted men at arms probably. Their “reserve move” rule seems really useful, more so since I can stash a wizard with them.
10 knights errant, for if I ever revisit the Errantry Crusade list.
And a prophetess on a unicorn because… well unicorns are cool. Dunno if she’ll ever make it to my lists, but who knows that could change.
The peasants are probably gonna go to the front of the painting line.
All highland miniatures designs, printed by Imperial Miniatures out of Florida- probably the best shop on Etsy for 30mm prints.
