Hi, I’m Matt, figured this would be a good place to show off the minis I’ve painted. I played a bit of Warhammer Fantasy back in 2003-2004, think it was 6th edition. I’ve mostly just been a fan of the lore all these years, until I heard about Old World in July 2024. Since then I’ve been diving into the hobby… stripping and repainting old models and getting new Games Workshop and 3D printed models.I know I’m not exactly the best painter… so far I just don’t want to keep track of a wet pallet and paint mixing. Writing this after 3 months of marathon painting… I wish I’d invested more into speed/contrast paints, maybe trying out slap chop. But, techniques like zenithal and slop chop still somehow feel scary to me, and overall I’m happy with my sloppy style. It at least looks better than “2 thick coats” most of the time, and I think I pass the 3 foot rule 🤷‍♂️

A Highland Mini’s “baroness of Gallia” mounted on their Royal Pegasus. Tried to reference Joan of Arc’s actual banner on this model with decals (since this model is clearly based on one of GW’s old models, which itself was based on Joan of Arc).
The bits on its base come from the old kits I bought back in the day. The metal paints on the lance were painted by me in about 2003-04, so I’m glad they have a place on my BSB.

A Monstrous Encounters Prophetess mounted on a Highland Mini’s Royal Pegasus, and it’s matching unit filler model (I’m trying to do that for Royal Pegasus models, so I can rank them up, usually can’t do that with the wings).

Post-touch up men at arms.
I guess I didn’t do too much to them- gave them a uniform hood color to better match my bowmen. Added more leather colors to the helmets, changed the color on some clothes.

Men at Arms :) I want to try and use them in a game… after I get a little better at the game.
I painted them all at some point last year, and thinking of how to improve them.
It’s mostly my old GW model and Highland Minis printed at 30mm scale if I remember right, mostly printed by Imperial Miniatures on Etsy.
I wonder if anyone will spot the little reference I hid in there, also Highland Minis I think.

GW Old World Imperial canons!
I’m really happy with how the guns turned out, even if they came with bigger base sizes than the recommended size in the Arcane Journal. I figure practically, for a match it wouldn’t matter much.
I’m happy with my color choices on the crew… but I’m just not sure about it somehow. Keep feeling like I’ve forgotten something.

WIP on my next BSB. The plan is to add this GW classic BSB model to a new Highland Minis royal Pegasus, like the one in the back. Hope it fits! (If doesn’t fit, then I’ll try with the Baroness of Gallia model).
The regular horse is one I’m planning to use for my grail knights, and this BSB is kind of a test model for them tbh.

20 Night Giblins with spears and shields :) I’ve reached the point where I’m not sure how to improve them more… also I tried making my own light box. Might start using this more here.

Here’s some more goblins, 6 down. Next batch are the 6 “boneheads” behind them.

lessons learned from my first big water effects project. I’ve left it drying for about 2 months now 😅 (woodland Scenic’s brand). Looks absolutely awful. Oh well.
Some of it looks awesome!! Most of it doesn’t.
- the pour was too deep. Ignore how many mm the directions say you can pour. Go as thin a layer as you possibly can. It will make this take weeks, but oh well.
- do not use PVA at all. Figure something else out. PVA glue causes the white clouds to form in the resin.
- it’s too round, looks unnatural. It’s too big, more water stuff takes longer to dry.
Edit: I think the bubbles might have been caused by the cling wrap I used to wrap it while it dried. I had it in a proper container for the first couple of weeks, but I needed that space for another project. So I tried to wrap it in cling wrap and move it to a shelf. Didn’t wrap tight enough to keep the plastic from making contact with the liquid. Stupid me 🤷‍♂️

Might be my last goblins for #goblin week.
I’ve just got some Highland Mini’s Grail Knights, a damsel and a wizard on Pegasus to paint for my Bretonnian army :)

Test- goblin from the goblin box for Goblin Week. Not sure if I like it yet. Painting eyes is hard- and I never did it for human models. I don’t think I can do that for humans without it looking really goofy and messy

I heard that the last week of January is Goblin Week for some reason (- https://youtube.com/shorts/DNLEZn6WbZI?si=Roe-fXWqgK4RyfLE ) good timing since I wanted to paint them anyways 🤣

I gave Black Orcs skin a purple undercoat, and Boar Boys a red undercoat: so I’ll give goblins a blue undercoat. Maybe that will help differentiate them when they’re all on tabletop together

Just finished some simple Kit-bashing for my General. That’s a Highland Mini’s model of a royal Pegasus, with a GW duke’s head. The decal’s I got from several Etsy vendors- might have gone a bit overboard on them, but if that ever bothers me more I think I can still add or move them around if I want to.

A Highland Mini’s Wizard on horse. I think the model was meant as an Empire type, but I’ll be using him as an evil outcast Wizard. Based the colors of Lex Luther.
I figure he’s an evil advisor type Wizard, a “the green mage” type of title, either in tribute or as a mockery of the Bretonnian Green Knight.
