My Grandad was a special, fascinating person. . . Been going through old family photos from my Dad's side recently, and seeing my Granny and Grandad when they were young and all my other family from my Dad's side is really interesting. From what I know Grandad was really well travelled (with his job) and had a lot of really interesting stories from way back when. The most I hear of them now is through Granny, but I wish I had been able to hear more of them first hand. There's no specific reason to bring up my Grandad on this day, but he came to me in a dream last night - the significance of which I don't know, but I feel like it's deliberate. Perhaps it's to remind me to keep enjoying life, and to find a way to see more and experience things to the fullest - to keep up being a musician, as "it's the joy in playing". Or maybe I'm just self reflecting too much, who knows. I love CDs. This latest one from #speedyortiz (@sad13) is absolutely amazing, and it's probably my favourite album of 2018 so far? I've been listening to it constantly in the car, one of many of a large CD collection in the car. Ever since I was young I've associated car journeys with CDs and listening to albums on the way to various activities, events and holidays with my parents. From Sheryl Crow on holiday, to Franz Ferdinand driving to the library, to RAM by Paul McCartney on the way to a friend's house, putting a disc on in the car has always been a big part of going places and my musical upbringing. And I'm still discovering great new music by listening in the car on the way to work, as I have done with the Speedy Ortiz discography recently. Still reeling from last night's @annaisaburch gig - had a really great time. Tight live show that reflected the album really well, and was lovely to meet her afterwards for a little chat. Hatchie was a fantastic support act too, really enjoyed her set. Already looking forward to the Leicester gig in July, been listening to the album on repeat since I left the venue!
