Therapists Needs to Relax too...
For the past couple of years (three if you want to be technical), I have been focused solely on honing my craft; amassing as much technique that I can learn and incorporate to my old, current and new clients I see on a daily basis. It was always work, work, work for me. On occasion I get to slip in a massage treatment for myself, but majority of the time it was purely work I was focused on.
Tumblr media
If you are familiar with the adage that goes someth...
something like this: “All work and no play makes [INSERT NAME HERE] a dull person,” then it applies to us massage therapists perfectly.
We are so focused on making others feel better that we often times sacrifice making ourselves feel better. We are like every Tom, Dick and Harry out there; we need to stop and smell the roses from time to time and enjoy what life brings us.
A rejuvenated therapist is a better therapist compared to someone who was constantly working, not taking the time to step back, take a breather and relax.
Today was my day off and the start of my one-week holiday. I was supposed to go somewhere for my holiday, but circumstance put a stop to that plan. Regardless, I took advantage of my time off to book myself what I dubbed as my “Spoil Me” day. I booked myself an hour massage and asked my attending RMT to focus solely on my problem areas (in as much as a full body massage was tempting, I knew which part of me was hurting & in dire need of major TLC so I asked for a more focused treatment). After the massage I was given an acupuncture treatment to help further loosen up my stiffening and hurting muscles.
It was the most relaxing 21 minutes of my life once the needles were placed and I was left alone in the treatment room by the acupuncturist.
After acupuncture I ended my “Spoil Me” day by having an ion cleanse treatment, which worked wonders for me the first time I tried it so I was eager to have another treatment done a second time.
Post-treatment was the best feeling I’ve had in a very long time. I felt like a whole new Me again, and that was something. Now I can finish off my one-week holiday continuing to relax, rest and rejuvenate myself so when I return back to work and see clients again I am refreshed.

It's mid-week again today, have you had time to pamper yourself? I have a couple of special offer promos going on right now at Acupuncture Care Holistic Centre that will sure appeal to your mood.
In June we celebrate Father’s Day. I have a special offer promo that will help you narrow your Father's Day gift ideas down (or give you an option if you can't think of any to give to your old man). It's a 90-minute Hot Stone treatment complete with a relaxing foot scrub massage for just $110+GST (that's the cost of receiving just a regular 90-minute treatment without the hot stone).
Also available every Wednesday this summer (June - August) is my $1-a-minute (+GST) massage (available only for either a 60-minute or 90-minute) treatment. And if you feel like you want to give yourself some extra pampering, why not add either a relaxing foot scrub OR a hot oil scalp massage by for $15 each; it will be incorporated within your 60-minute or 90-minute treatment. If you want to add BOTH to your treatment, you can do so as well, however if you're going down this route remember that these extras will be incorporated during your 60-minute or 90-minute appointment.
If you have any questions leave it in the comments and I will answer them as promptly as possible or you can contact our clinic directly at 780.416.2828.

Recognition & Appreciation
As an RMT (Registered Massage Therapist), we tend to often be overlooked by those people who come to see us mostly for relaxation purses and very seldom for therapeutic treatments (unless you work in a clinic with either a chiropractor, physiotherapist or acupuncturist). And often times people who came to see us leave us feeling uncertain on whether we actually helped them out with their problem or not due to their lack of feedback.
This last couple of days at the clinic, I have heard and received quite...
...a few positive accolades from both co-workers and clients alike. It makes me feel good and way more confident to hear how amazed and pleased the person I have on my table with the outcome of their treatment.
Since last night I have had three clients who got up from my table and walked out of my treatment room feeling revamped; the nagging pain that brought them to my table was no longer pestering them. There was even one client who has had quite a few massages before who walked out of our clinic really happy and praising me according to our clinic's receptionist. Apparently as a "veteran" massage recipient, her experience with me during our treatment session was the first time she felt relief in places that when a previous RMT worked on before left her writhing in pain, thus making her weary of every receiving deep tissue massage. Hearing that client say that sure stroked my ego real good, and it made me feel more special and confident at what I was doing.
I just want to say THANK YOU to all you wonderful people you who expressed your appreciation and enthusiasm at what I do, and what I have done to help you feel better.

Seeing Results ASAP
Tumblr media
One of the many things that gives me pleasure and reminds me why I chose this career field was seeing my clients leave my massage table with a smile on their faces and having a far different attitude from when they first hopped on it.
The treatment I gave her must've worked because I didn't see her book in a massage since that first time. Then last week I saw her name on my schedule list. She was my second to the last client Friday night. She told me she was fine up until she and her family went away on their trip over Christmas. Suffice to say I worked on the same problem areas we worked on last time, which gave her some bit of relief afterwards, but it wasn't up to par with her initial reaction to our first treatment.
I came in today not realizing she booked in a massage with me again. I heard from our receptionist that she was already shown to my treatment room because she can hardly walk or sit out in reception. I was worried, of course, because when I saw her last before the weekend she walked out of the clinic feeling fine and was really chatty with the ladies up front.
I walked in to the room and started asking her the usual questions. She explained to me what happened between Friday and today. I got right on fixing the problem, working her muscles hard and deep, hoping that I find the root of her problems. She only booked for a 60-minute treatment, and we were nearing the end of our allotted time when 'lo and behold, I found the sweet spot!
With less than 10 minutes before our appointment was up, we did some active movement treatment; muscle stripping and kneading of the area that was causing her so much pain and trouble. She was amazed (and a little light-headed too considering we did a lot of deep tissue and muscle work) and giddy with excitement that she was able to move again without feeling any stiffness or heck, she was doing the movement on her own and not wincing unlike when I was the one moving the limb for her.
We wrapped out our session, and I told her to take her time while I go grab her a glass of water to help with her lightheadedness. I advised her to take her time from jumping off my table and getting dressed because I don't want her having a spell and passing out.
Needless to say when she walked out of my treatment room she was walking upright and not hobbling like when she first walked in. She gave me a hug and she walked back to our reception area with a smile on her face...
