6 Things #Resilient #People #Do #Better 1. Be positive Instead of dwelling on what went wrong in your day, called “fault finding,” pay attention to what went right—no matter how small it is. Psychologist Barbara Fredrickson found resilient #people #have #the #same #number #of #negative #emotions as unhappy people but they #do #not #focus #on #them. Fredrickson computed a formula for happiness. In order to be resilent and flourish, the average person needs to experience a 3-to-1(link is external) ratio of positive to negative emotions. Over 75 percent of executives and entrepreneurs have a schedule that simply exhausts them. If I ask to look at a leader's calendar it often looks like a box of spilled jigsaw puzzle pieces and many don't have the ultimate picture they are trying to create. Focusing on time management alone will not help.

When this law was being considered, the IRS was against it and with good reason. Using private collection agencies to collect taxes on behalf of the IRS had been done twice in the past and according to Nina Olson, the National Taxpayer Advocate at the IRS, “Twice the experiment ended in failure.” Not only did the IRS manage to collect twice as much of overdue taxes as the private collection agencies did, but having the IRS do the collecting was far less costly. So private collectors managed to collect less tax money at greater cost. The new law requires the IRS to hire private tax collectors by early March.

The Cons: Ingredient Brands Eat Their Hosts If ingredient branding brings this kind of success, what’s there to worry about? Let’s take a look at some sinister examples where ingredient brands, if not eating up their hosts entirely, then at least took a large bite out of them. The Intel Inside initiative, the most famous of all ingredient brand programs, is a cautionary tale worth examining. Launched in 1991, Intel Inside followed a model that chemical companies had successfully used to promote their patented products further along the value chain. DuPont was a pioneer of this idea and had used it to establish the Lycra, Kevlar, Teflon, and rayon ingredient brands. These brands provided enhanced credibility for the host company and proof of specific and important benefits (for example, Teflon equates with nonstick).

This week, I consulted with two potential clients — both in their early 60s. One sees a world of scarcity — she laments that men only want younger women. The other sees a world of abundance. She crafted a captivating online profile, signed up for classes in which she can expand her social circle, and says “yes” to all invitations. Guess which of these two is NOT sitting home on Saturday night?

6. They spend time with people who put them at ease. They determine which relationships are worthwhile based on how comfortable they feel when they are with another person. The point of spending time with others is to experience connection, and if you have to self-monitor your every word and behavior, it’s because you know you’re at risk for being judged (which means, of course, the person doesn’t love you as much as you may want to assume).

Instead of always focusing on the future and the next to-do, stay present. Research shows that when our mind is constantly in the future, not only are we less happy, but we’re also far less productive and focused.
