I’m a bit put off by fanfics where Severus is portrayed as a super confident, cold, and impenetrable romance novel-type character who has everything under control, is excessively dominant, and exudes that magnetic aura of someone who can handle anything—because we’re literally talking about a man who spent 20 years with severe depression, major self-esteem issues, and a laughable ability to manage his anger.

I like the rabid cat who lashes out at the slightest provocation, explodes every other minute, looks like he hasn’t eaten in two weeks, and can’t believe anyone could genuinely like him. The mere idea or suggestion of it makes him angry because he thinks he’s being mocked. Give me that dysfunctional adult I love so much, please.

Canonically, James Potter sexually assaulted Snape in front of a crowd of people by taking off his clothes.

Canonically, The Marauders made Snape’s life a living nightmare, and continued to bully him well into adulthood.

Canonically, Peter Pettigrew was ultimately the reason why both Lily and James died and left Harry orphaned, because he was the one to rat them out to Voldemort

… and yet… half of the fandom draws the line at Snape? I beg of you guys… hold every character at the standards that you hold Snape to.

Honestly I don't understand why so many Slytherin characters (e.g.: the ones that were 'friends' with Snape when he was in Hogwarts) get all these cutesy headcanons. And they get shipped with marauders era characters, and supposedly they bullied Snape etc...

But Snape gets all the hate. The amount of characters and headcanons I've seen where Snape just gets bullied by literally everyone, just cause he's Snape is honestly infuriating.

How can you have 'sympathy' (for lack of a better word) with Regulus Black, a character we know basically nothing about. But you hate Snape, who we know soooo much about?

And yes you can like whoever you wanna like. I just don't understand why Snape gets so much hate.
