Stigmata — Hasta'akala
"Oh, no. I believed that God was with me... Do you believe that? Was God with me?"
—The Sparrow, 1996
(I'm like going into space jesuit genre relapse so I decided to feed the fans of a novel that came out 28 yrs ago.... I'm making my mark before they make that damn live action show, which I am terrified of, so I can proclaim my vision)

In some eps, Dean reads Vonnegut, in another he’s an expert on Star Trek. In another, suddenly Dean doesn’t know who HP Lovecraft is and makes a crack about how he’s too cool to know about a horror writer—“too busy having sex with women.” I’m not buying it. The times when Dean pretends like he doesn’t read and doesn’t know things and postures about very non-geeky he is, it’s the facade. It flickers in and out. Sometimes he’s the biggest geek in the family, other times he’s playing the cool jock routine.
I’m thinking less and less this is writers room not having their ducks in a row about Dean and part of the purposeful build of the character. It makes sense. Dean’s facade flickers in and out and it’s inconsistent—on purpose.
Dean’s facade was never that effective. His heart is on his sleeve every minute, he emits emotions loudly all the time, he’s not repressed, he’s not tough, he’s actually soft, and Dean’s terseness and snapping at people isn’t because he’s tough, it’s because he’s scared or hurt or angry or grieving, and putting up barriers.
Fandom having classism, lbr, some people fell for the facade and believed Sam is “the smart, geeky one” and Dean is the “dumb brawn who doesn’t read and doesn’t know things” when the reality is Sam is booksmart, he is academic, while Dean has an overall literacy, he reads, is knowledgable about tv, films, and more than one genre of music.

man y’all remember when the avengers movie came out and everyone headcanoned that all the avengers would live together in the tower and had all these cute posts about various fun ways they could interact and then the movies literally never had any of them even be friends

i like to think sam and dean have one shitty shovel and one good one in the impal because if you have two of something, one is inevitably going to be better and nicer and more desirable. and dean and sam fight over the good one every. time. cause they each think they deserve the good shovel. but we don’t see this of course. and when it’s just sam and cas they take turn and keep a mental list of whose turn it was to use the good shovel last because fair is fair. and when it’s dean and cas they both offer the other one the good shovel because that’s romance, that’s love, wanting someone else to dig up a grave with a shovel whose blade stays firmly in place

Camilla: You, sir, should unmask. Stranger: Indeed? Cassilda: Indeed it’s time. We all have laid aside disguise but you. Stranger: I wear no mask. Camilla: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!
