Gumband Meditation IV
Ink and Watercolor on Paper
18" x 12"
Where I come from, we call a rubber band a gumband, a down-to-earth name for a mundane object whose flexibility offers a powerful range of visual expressions. If stamping with a simple rubber loop, in concert with a few odds and ends—screws, cookie cutters, birthday balloons—can evoke fruits and flowers, clouds and birds, writing and weaving--then what other potentials for creativity might we be overlooking in our everyday lives?
