Boy do I miss Shoog. Summer and major holidays hurt the most. Always a beach babe under her umbrella, holding onto her hat because it's indefinitely windy in her world. This was the year we bought her a kiddie pool for her to put her feet in. I promised her. That way the water was warm and she didn't have to get up from her thrown. Spent all night blowing that sucker up for her. Always a queen. She's still here, it's just different now. No more trips to the beach, or the outlets, but just trips out onto the porch at her nursing home. She still lets her sass out. Not even Alzheimers can contain that side of her. Always laugh when she still says "Let me tell ya," or "oh god, I tell ya." It's really hard, but pictures like this take us back to a better time... #endalzheimers

I wish to uphold our beloved motto of UT PROSIM and serve our community, offer support, and help this cause. Nearly everyone has been touched by cancer, either through their own personal battle or through the battle of someone they love, and this disease has taken too much from too many. I’m participating in the Relay For Life event because I know I am making a difference in the fight to end cancer by raising funds and cancer awareness. Virginia Tech is the No. 1 College Relay Event This past fall, I transferred to this wonderful university that I now call home. I am proud to be participating in the biggest collegiate relay team of them all! My Family... Both my mother and father's side of my family have had many members with cancer. The fear that just the word cancer instills; it's spine chilling for me. To hear "____ was diagnosed with cancer," can be eartshattering. It wasn't easy for me to hear that my uncle Chris had prostate cancer, my Pop had lung cancer, my aunt Patti had skin and my aunt Jeanine breast cancer, my Poppop had prostate cancer, my great grandmother had breast cancer, my great uncle Bill passed from Lung and Colon, my great aunt Dorris passed from skin cancer, my cousin "Big Ed" passed from lung cancer, and a friend of mine, Tyler, had Non-Hodgekins Lymphoma. Each year, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated as the day that my boyfriend of three years' mother, Tess, was finished her battle with cancer. A date worthy of celebration. Each date that these members were announced cancer free is a day for celebration, for it means that we have overcome. #relayforlife #virginiatechrelay #morebirthdays
