You want to unlock some hidden memories from your childhood? Well, here's the key to one of them. I watched Rock-a-doodle last night with my boyfriend, it was his choice of movie as it was one of his favorites as a child. He said it unlocked some hidden memories, some nostalgia, whatnot.
This movie came out before I was born so I actually had no idea about this movie, had never heard of it. My boyfriend took joy in showing it to me, but uh.. He fell asleep during it so clearly he had no joy in the movie, I guess.
I actually love how dark cartoons used to be back in the 90's and earlier. People weren't afraid of showing their kids something dark and scary. I miss that.
That being said, this movie definitely has some dark and sinister plots within. Killer birds, low-key prostitution, and even what looks like penises in some scenes.
I enjoyed it.
Rotten Tomatoes gives this movie a 20% iMDB gives it a 6/10 stars.
I am with iMDB, giving it 6 stars. It was good and reminiscence but it's so crazy some of the plots older children movies had.

I was super amped to see this in the coming soon section on HBO Max, as I love a good thriller and suspenseful movie. I watched it the day it started streaming, and whilst my boyfriend was heavily confused by it, I thought it was a rather interesting movie.
I was able to predict a lot of it, but it was still a good movie and I enjoyed seeing how it played out on screen.
Two different point of views, two different times. You really have to pay attention to detail in the backgrounds and context clues to be able to piece it all together.
Like I said, I do love me a good thriller. I love psychological movies even more, and this is a good mixture of both.
Rotten Tomatoes has this movie rated a 77% iMDB has this movie as a 6.9/10
I am giving this movie a 7/10, it really kept me engaged and made me think, just as M. Night Shyamalan is good at doing.

So, I watched this movie today with my middle son as he was home from school, sick as a bug. I've been trying to branch out and show him some good family movies from before his time (This movie is seven years older than he is!) and we settled on this one.
I had only seen this movie once before, back when I was a kid, so it was like watching it for the first time all over again. I of course remembered bits and pieces of it, but it was still a decent movie to watch with him. Luckily, he already knows the tooth fairy isn't real, so I wasn't worried about this movie ruining anything for him.
Tooth Fairy, featuring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, came out in 2010. It really is just a cut and paste family movie though, similar to The Santa Claus starring Tim Allen (adult doesn't believe in mythical/legendary being, now has to be that being).
That being said, it is good for what it is. It also touches on the struggles some stepparents have with bonding with their new stepchildren and I did find that admirable.
Rotten Tomatoes has this movie rated at an 18% iMDB has this movie rated 5/10 stars
I am giving this movie a 6/10 stars. My son found it enjoyable, and got really excited when The Rock's character finally flew, and if the movie can bring one of my kids joy, then it deserves an extra star than what I originally planned.

I'm really not one for romantic movies or anything of the sort. So, my judgement on this one may be harsh. I love the actors who are in this movie, however this movie kinda fell flat for me.
This movie had a lot of potential. It just didn't go high enough to meet it.
IMDb rates this movie at 5.7/10, and Rotten Tomatoes puts it at 31%
So, I guess, everyone kinda agrees with me.
Tumblr media
The only reason this movie gets that high of a rating, is because the first half is actually good, but the second half felt really rushed.
Stay tuned for more reviews, because I watch a lot of movies.

I haven’t watched many movies lately, but the one I did sit down and watch just the other night was Matilda (1996).
I put this on with full intention of falling asleep to it- which was a mistake, because naturally I got fully engrossed in it and couldn’t just go to sleep without watching it in its entirety.
I had seen this movie before, but it had been a very long time so I needed a refresher. I’m glad I took this refresher course.
IMDb gives this movie a 7/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 91%.
I am with Rotten Tomatoes on this one though. I will forever love this movie, though at times its cringey with the amount of abuse these children go through.

I recently watched the remake of the movie Candyman. This one came out in 2021, but I only watched it for the first time a couple of days ago. I went into this not really remembering much about the original movie. Lucky for me, this is technically a sequel and not really a remake.
IMDb gives this movie a 5.9/10 stars (yikes) and Rotten Tomatoes gives this movie an 84%.
I am somewhere in between. My favorite thing about the Candyman movies is the puppetry, which is a unique aspect in horror. I give this movie a 7/10 stars.

So I saw a clip of this movie on Facebook, and that made me want to watch it. I had never heard of this movie before then. I think with Jenna Ortega’s new starring role in Wednesday, more of her stuff is surfacing and circling it’s way around social media. She’s the new craze.
Anyways, I watched this movie. I think this movie beautifully portrays how grief and trauma can affect different people in different ways, and how just when you think you are okay, and the worst of it has passed, it can come back and punch you in the gut at any minute. I really like that they showed so many different coping mechanisms, and how sometimes being deflective is the biggest cry for help.
IMDb gives this movie a 7/10, and Rotten Tomatoes gives this movie a 93%.
I am right in the middle of these ratings, and I give this movie an 8/10.

Smile.
I expected this movie to be scarier than it was, and I was a little disappointed. The acting was good. The movie was at times super predictable. It also went on longer than it should, and the ending kinda made me sad because they didn’t deserve that.
IMDb gives this movie a 6.6/10, and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 79%.
I usually don’t agree with these big name ratings.. But in this case I am siding with IMDb. I give it a 6/10 stars.

Okay, hear me out. I absolutely love Anna Kendrick with all of my heart. I will pretty much watch anything she is in, without a doubt. Now, it’s been about two years since I’ve seen this movie, but with the lack of a partner to watch movies with, I’m pulling from memory to update this blog.
I chose to review this movie because I recently put Anna Kendrick on my Actor Appreciation blog, and she’s been on my mind.
I am not usually one for romantic comedies, or even really action. But, this movie perfectly combined the two in my opinion. Now, it’s no 10/10 but it is definitely a good movie that I recommend.
IMDb gives this movie an 8.1/10, and Rotten tomatoes gives this movie a 44%.
Now that’s a big difference in ratings. But, I am right in the middle of them at 7/10 stars.

Come Play (2020)
I am a big horror movie fanatic, and I actually got to talking about this movie with a friend of mine today. I saw this movie in theaters back when it came out. It is a movie I will bring up when someone is easing into horror, or just wants a unique movie with a unique story line in it.
This movie checks all the boxes, and it actually made me cry. (No worries, I won’t post any spoilers).
Now, a movie where I can get attached to characters and CRY for them, always gets good reviews on my end.
IMDb gives this movie a 5.7/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 56%
I will give this movie 7 stars, because like I said, this is a unique movie, an interesting take on children’s reliance on electronics, and just the dangers there are out there.

Hellraiser (1987). I’ve been seeing someone, and he happens to love horror movies as much as I do. But, we both had never seen this cult classic. So we opted to give it a try last night.
It is gory, and I do not recommend if you are squeamish. I definitely had to look away in some scenes. This movie deserves all the credit it can get. I don’t know if I will ever watch the remake though. I might have to eventually, but I am currently not ready to.
IMDb gives this movie a 6.9/10, and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 70%
I am not as generous as those two. I will give it a 6/10. My date? All he says is “well that was interesting.”

Pan’s Labyrinth (2006)
So while this movie is fresh in my mind, as I just watched it last night. Not for the first time, don’t worry. Granted, when I watched it for the first time, I probably shouldn’t have? I was like 7.
Pan’s Labyrinth is in Spanish, so if you don’t speak Spanish, you can use the English subtitles. But, this is one of my favorites. It became one that held such a big place in my heart since I was a child. This movie absolutely gets to me.
It’s whimsical, its gory, it’s fantastical, it’s moving. Anything you could possibly want in a movie, this has it. I really freaking love this movie, guys.
IMDb gave this movie an 8.2/10, and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 95%
I might be a little biased, but I give this movie a 10/10, and I definitely suggest you go see it.

I’m back with another review.  You may notice a name change, and from here on out there will no longer be any Nate Picks.
I watched Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark tonight, and it wasn’t my first time watching it but, I thought, I needed to update this blog.
IMdB gives this movie a 6.2/10, and Rotten Tomatoes rates it at a 77%.
I grew up reading these books, and I was always in love with the creepy artwork and how, for a child, these stories were in fact bone chilling. When I heard they would be making this into a movie, I was so excited.
But I think they could have done more.
I will give this movie a 7/10, for nostalgia, for creativity, and the unique aspect of it. Ultimately, though, this movie fell flat.

Okay so I know this one isn’t a movie exactly. But, we spent the past few weeks watching Demon Slayer instead of taking turns. Nate picked this out as a co worker of his recommended it to him.
Imdb rates this as an 8.7/10, and rotten tomatoes gives it a 98%.
However, I didn’t like it enough to give it those ratings. Don’t get me wrong, I love anime, and I did enjoy this one. But, it’s not as good as some other ones I have seen. So I will give it a 7. Nate also gives it a 7 for the same reason. We are not done watching though so the rating may change as more and more episodes come out.

I think I found one of my new favorite movies, guys. I know its an oldie, but I had never seen it before! I have always loved Studio Ghibli and would watch the movies when I got the chance, but I hadn’t even seen Spirited Away until like.. 2 years ago. So bare with me.
Howl’s Moving Castle came out in 2004, and has some pretty big named stars in it. I seriously can’t believe it took so long for me to get to watching it. I finally decided to after seeing a gif set of the scene where he is cooking breakfast and feeding Calcifer.
I’m in love, guys.
Nate, however.. Fell asleep.
IMDb gives this movie an 8.2, and Rotten Tomatoes rates it at 87%.
I will give this movie a 9 because even though I was so tired, I couldn’t just not finish it. I was very involved and moved and I just. Ahh!

Now this here is a movie I grew up on. My love for Tim Burton was blossomed very early on in my life, along with the love for dark and whimsical. Now this movie isn’t exactly dark, but it is 100% whimsical. I don’t think I would be able to live without this movie. I watch it at least once a year.
Nate had never seen the movie, though. So I chose this movie in an attempt to get him to watch it and fall in love with it as I had. But, I’m sure by now you guys know how Nate is... He fell asleep.
Big Fish, one of my favorite movies in existence. Right next to Water for Elephants and The Princess Bride. This movie goes all over the place, and I am totally here for it.
IMDb gives this movie an 8/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 76%.
I will give this movie a 9. Like I said, its one of my favorites. Go watch it.

So I have already told you that we typically stick around with the horror themes that we love. Well, I had never seen Young Frankenstein, and I think Nate took offense to that. I think if it wasn’t already on a streaming service, Nate would have bought or rented it just for the night so that I could watch it.
I really, really do not know what to say about this movie.
I loved it.
Gene Wilder, genuinely missed, does a great job at portraying a mad scientist. We all knew playing someone a little crazy was his go to things based on his role in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, but truthfully that was all I had even seen him in until now. I know, I am truly awful.
IMDb gives the movie an 8/10, and Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 92%.
I am gonna give it a 9 for sure. It was comical, it was horrific, it was terrific, it was everything I could ask for in a classic horror.
Nate, well, he fell asleep during it. I wish I could insert an eye roll here since he was the one that wanted to watch this. But oh well. No rating from him.
