Life as an "artist" 09/01/12

Skegness may be a small town but it is full of great artistic talent, which is without a permanent place to display, I know this isn’t a real prospect as the funding involved

would be better spent on local jobs and health care, but I posted a thought on my facebook page today, Wishing we had more places to exhibit local artists work,

From this I had a great chat with local councillor and presenter on a local radio station Steve Odare about this.

Maybe one day there will be a place to promote the arts, and to get people involved, but for now, the internet is a great place to show your work to the masses, and as for getting people involved, I guess that starts at home with the next generation, I try and get my son involved with art and the older he gets the more I will be able to show him how to draw and paint, how to play guitar, and hopefully these things he will be able to pass on to his children.

  It’s great having children you can be a kid again, had great fun playing with my son and his wooden train set, although we did have many terrible train crashes.

  First night back at Art group after the Christmas holiday and time to get on with the new painting of a windmill and mountains in Fuerteventura in acrylic on canvas,

Was asked to possibly play bass in a band with a couple of the guys from group been a long time since I have played, not been in a band for about 10 years in fact, actually just now while typing realised just how long it’s been. So knowing that will have to think about it.

Almost finished the painting and am so happy with it.

Life as an "artist" 05/01/12

Well let’s make an effort and throw myself out of bed at 5:30 this morning, might as well force it,

Will go straight up to paint, but then again I think a coffee is a good idea, yes I will have a coffee first.

 The first painting I am doing this year is of a scene from the middle part of Fuerteventura, with a stormy sky above a few mountains and below that is a windmill pretty much in the middle of nowhere, it was a picture I took while on holiday there last November, during a bus tour with the wife.

Right done quite a bit to the sky, so breakfast time it is.

My son woke at a more normal time for him today, 7:30

Right off to work and there is roof tiles by my car, luckily they didn’t hit it, right lets see what other carnage there is on my walk to work.

Stupid alarm, really up at 5:30 I think not, hit the alarm several times and eventually roll out of bed at 6am,

It will take some getting used to these early mornings after the Christmas period, so down with the coffee and try getting my eyes unblurred, right off to the studio I go.

To start the year lets get rid of the rubbish, so I have a couple of old canvases with paintings I do not like so no point wasting them, roller and primer out and lets paint over them. I will let them dry and start my first painting tomorrow.

 Time for breakfast then off to work, well shocked leaving the house at 7:50 and my lazy 2 year old son is still asleep, wish I was tucked up in bed its cold out here this morning.

   It’s very windy tonight, sounds like the front door will get blown in, I’m shocked that it hasn’t woke my son up,

Life as an "artist"

It would be nice to be able to say I’m an artist, but then I would be  spending all my time painting and earning a living from my paintings and being able to pay my bills from doing what I love,

Life as an “artist” is a tricky one to try and juggle with a family, a young son and a full time job, but you have to give all you have to try and make something happen,

 So I as many other “artists” do, I trudge on, working full time, spend as much of my time as I can with my wife and child, (if it were possible, my whole time would be with my son).

So 5 days a week, I wake up at 5:30am to try and get as much time in painting while the rest of the house is still fast asleep, then my son will wake and I get to spend some time with him before I have to go and do my day job at 8am.

  Start of the New Year 2012, where will this take us, last year an amazing holiday in Fuerteventura which was a great inspiration, and will be one the first painting that I do this New Year.
