We read a Spiderman! He was having a bad time so I was having a good time hehe
We’re going back to 1987 to read Kraven’s Last Hunt by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck, which collects issues from The Amazing Spider-Man, Web of Spider-Man, and Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man. This is a classic capes and tights story about how some men will fight a decade-long battle to best Spider-Man in hand-to-hand combat rather than go to therapy. Several content warnings apply to this journey through Peter Parker’s emo phase, but you don’t need to be steeped in nostalgia to appreciate the trip.
Also mentioned in this episode: Captain America and The Amazing Spider-Man: Soul of the Hunter also by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck The Infinity Gauntlet by Jim Starlin, George Perez, and Ron Lim Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto Thunderbolts by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley Flowers and Ink by Tai Manzano Laika’s Comet by Willow Woods Indiginerds: Tales from Modern Indigenous Life edited by Alina Pete @cherryblossommadness on Instagram Babylon 5 created by J.M. Strazinsky and Buffy the Vampire Slayer by some people probably

It’s time for another Gutter-Take. Webcomics are harder to find than ever. Or is it the opposite? Where do you find your webcomics, and how do you get readers to find yours? Jeff, Jam, and JD have questions and also answers.

Part two of Our Dreams at Dusk!
Part One is here! Please read this amazing series, it is very close to my heart :')
Our panellists are back with volumes 3 and 4 of Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani. This time we get to talk about all the characters in depth, including matters of life, death, marriage, and friendship. We finish off the series knowing a lot more about the characters, but not everything! We also talk about the founding of Cloudscape, and the difference between understanding and acceptance.
Also mentioned in this episode: Flight edited by Kazu Kibuishi Wicked by Gregory Maguire Gender Failure by Rae Spoon and Ivan E. Coyote And a bunch of Canadian comics publishers: At Bay Press, Renegade Press, Drawn & Quarterly, Cloudscape Comics, Groundwood Books, Highwater Press, Arsenal Pulp Press, and Toronto Comics. We also should have mentioned Conundrum Press, Orca Books, and Pow Pow.

This is an intense comic but I find it very beautiful and moving and I'm glad we got to talk about it! We'll be doing books 3 and 4 in the next ep and that's the whoooole series!
This week Jam, Jeff, and JD read the first two volumes of Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani. As Jeff says in the episode, this is a deep dive into queer culture in Japan that celebrates the importance of community and third spaces. Join us as we visit the town of Onomichi, with its cats and old houses, its queer drop-in centre and its many photogenic bridges. This is a different kind of manga, and a unique story in comics.
Also mentioned in this episode: Nabari no Oh and Shonen Note also by Yuhki Kamatani Descending Stories by Haruko Kumota Your Name directed by Makoto Shinkai Princess Jellyfish by Akiko Higashimura For Better Or For Worse by Lynn Johnston Fresh Start by Gale Galligan and Scholastic book fairs

We're trying a new podcast format - a short ep on what comics readers might like to know about how comics distribution works and what it might mean for the comics you love. Please let us know what you think of the format!
Detailed book analysis will remain the core, but we realized "not having read the book" is a big barrier, and wanted to try something easier to drop into on occasion
We’re doing something different for this episode. In between our regular panels on great graphic novels lies the gutter (get it?). And in the gutter this week, Diamond Distributors, who once held a monopoly on delivering comic books to readers, just filed for bankruptcy. What does this mean for comics? What even is “distribution?” Jeff, Jam, and JD are here to let you know, in our first mini episode on topics behind the scenes in comics.
Also mentioned in this episode: What No One Wants to Admit About Comic Book Sales (BONE Video Essay) by Matttt

Our next episode will be on Our Dreams at Dusk by Yuhki Kamatani.

This is prolly gonna sound weird, but I've been following you since Wasted Talent and it's amazing to see how far you've come and to see what you're doing now.
Also you're a cat now, that's neat.
Not weird at all, thanks for reading!
Yeah I changed the way I draw myself to create an intentional break from Wasted Talent since it felt like a completed work to me.
I'm still technically the same person, but also I am not, y'know?

This month only - Patrons at all levels can get access to my second-ever hourlies from 2008 (🫣)
After that they go into the vault and Postcard-tier patrons can access them whenever they want forever! I'm working on creating a full archive of all my hourlies there. So far there are quite a few....
I'll be doing hourlies again and they will get posted here, but they will go on Patreon first :D
