I just completed my fourth straight year of Hourly Comic Day (you can read all previous years by checking the tag on my blog) Featured this year: a semi-spontaneous trip to the Art Shanty village that springs up on South Minneapolis's frozen lakes every winter, and what was possibly the worst possible weather to experience it in.

Hourly Comic Day 2025

I've only ever done hourly comic day once, five years ago (when it was also on a Saturday LOL). My life has changed a lot since then, and it's interesting to see those ways in comic form.

I simplified the challenge by only committing to one comic per three hour block (and didn't include the chunk of 10pm-1am of catching up on hourlies + trying and failing to fall asleep). I have to say, ditching the illustration/diary style and only picking one event to make a comic of was way nicer!

I really cannot praise this game highly enough. From my point of view, this is the best shoot 'em up on the Engine, and probably my favorite on any format. Everything about this game is stunning - the graphics are superbly designed and colored, with some amazingly ingenious parallax scrolling. Levels are highly varied with a lot of scenery changes, and attack waves are well-planned and never seem unfair to the player. And unlike many games, it keeps you coming back even when you’ve completed it, it's just so much fun. The music is also excellent, and very fitting and it’s really a game that you can get your teeth into. In the US this game came as part of the bundled TurboDuo 4-in-1 Super CD. That Super CD came with this game as well as the US versions of PC Kid (Bonk's Adventure), PC Kid 2 (Bonk's Revenge) as well as a hidden game called Bomberman all in one disc. This disc was also shipped together with Ys I-II for free if you bought a Turbo Duo system which came with a $50 coupon and a reserved, mail-order copy of Turbo Force Magazine #3.
