Typical InduSoft Web Studio HMI or SCADA projects generally contain anywhere from 1500 to 1,000,000 tags. Newer users of InduSoft Web studio may need more information on selecting the appropriate license for the number of tags they will require. Because tags represent one point of data in InduSoft Web Studio, even a very small project will likely require hundreds of tags.

“Do you have any Softkeys in stock?”

InduSoft offers two different licensing methods for InduSoft Web Studio. One is a Hardkey, which is available as a USB dongle, and features an NS number (serial number) on the device for identification purposes. The advantages of this type of licensing are that it can be moved from machine to machine.  This type of key is useful for Engineering and Development purposes.

The other method of licensing is a Softkey. The Softkey will only work on the machine that originated the InduSoft Web Studio Site Code.  Softkeys are also assigned NS numbers and stickers included with the purchase having the NS number can be added to the licensed machine in order to identify it.  The advantage of the softkey is that the key cannot be removed or broken like a dongle, but will need to remain on the machine that authenticated the license.  This method is useful for machines such as operator stations which are stationary and are not subject to change of use.

Because Softkeys are a digital licensing system, they do not have a physical component except the licensed machine itself.
