Oh my god, I actually reread Gin and Cthonic today for the... I don't actually know how many nth time, and it just gets better and better! And I absolutely will reach out to the co-author, I was going to as well because I love Heiron too, as both a super cool character and for the mindeater aspect. I'm a huge fan of horror and the way you both wrote Bites and Pieces tickled my brain in all the right ways and I still can't get the temple and the godbeast out of my brain!
Originally the reason why I started reading was Bites and Pieces because of the plant horror and eldritch deity aspect, but then I found the one where Peter disguises himself as a ballet dancer and I was hooked.
aaaaaAAAAAAAA
I told voidteatime about your message and they’re as tickled as I am! It’s wonderful to be able to reach folks after all this time.
Gin & Chthonic is basically canon to my characterization of Peter and his backstory. It’s probably one of my favorite things that I’ve ever written. I’m so happy you read it.

okay so I don't exactly know if you're into the tpp fandom anymore but I just wanted to gush about your fics (have wanted to for so so long because oh my god your writing is beautiful and I am in love with the world building and characters and Heiron and Peter Nureyev's Alias Catalogue and the monster's temple and ugh there's so much!!!!!!!) and I was feeling a little something (don't know what feeling but it was a feeling) that everyone that I know's sort of moved on and I don't really know who to talk to about them and then I thought wow, maybe I should go directly to the source and gush so here I am
oh my god hi
oh my god thank you so much
I’m not super active in tpp or on tumblr but this means so much!!! All I ever want is to know my writing reaches someone. The fact that you’ve reached out is a gift!
I’m especially excited that you mention the cosmic horror fics. Those were an experiment if mine that I really had fun with.
did you check out “gin and chthonic”?
I’m passing this onto my coauthor— Hieron is their brainchild and they will be tickled to know your interest.
I’m active on pillowfort now as iimpavid! If you find yourself there, that’s where you can find me off ao3. Some day I’ll get around to finishing my mick/juno fic. thank you again for reaching out. This made my week!!

what the heck is “hopepunk”??
i've seen hopepunk defined as... "the opposite of grimdark" aesthetically... setting aside how useless I personally find it to define a thing by what it isn't, what is grimdark? well let's take the Nolan Batman films, because, for whatever reason, those movies have become a favorite punching bag of ppl who gripe about that sort of thing. The aesthetic opposite of that would involve lots of interpersonal drama, since it wouldn't be an action film, and rich colors and bright sets and nature... while still being about an individual overcoming some oppressive power system... Oh my god.
Y'all we did it. We figured it out. Midsommar is what it means to be hopepunk. That's how you define it.
Sew your bad boyfriend into a bearskin and light him on fire while you communally wail in horror with the cult you've been trauma-indoctrinated into via LSD and sleeplessness. That's hopepunk!

I’m sorry if no one’s explained this to you before but a content creator telling you that their work isn’t for minors and it’s not their responsibility to jump through hoops to keep it from you is an adult looking out for kids. they’re modeling good boundaries and setting the expectation that you’ll engage with the online community like a person and take responsibility for your choices. if you cannot understand that you need to look out for yourself and take people seriously when they say their work isn’t suitable for young audiences then you are not ready to be unsupervised on the internet.

"Whatever you do, however terrible, however hurtful, it all makes sense, doesn’t it? Inside your head. You never meet anybody who thinks they’re a bad person or that they’re cruel. Don’t you put the past in a room, in the cellar and lock the door and just never go in there? Because that’s what I do. Then you meet someone special and all you want to do is toss them the key, say open up, step inside, but you can’t because it’s dark, and there are demons, and if anybody saw how ugly it was. I keep wanting to do that, fling open the door, let the light in, clean everything out. If I could get a huge eraser and rub everything out. Starting with myself."
— Tom Ripley, The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

this whole 'which job would you have on the leftist commune?' meme is really bringing to light the gulf between internet opinion-havers and like, actual blue collar laborers. removing the exploitative nature of capitalism isn't going to abolish all needs for labor. getting people their meds is still going to take hard work. getting people their mail is still going to take hard work. getting people their food is still going to take hard work. none of these tasks can be 'fully automated luxury space communism.' it doesn't have to be an economic hostage situation, but shit's still going to have to get done and people are going to have to do it.
if you wouldn't want to do the hard work of growing food or building maintenance or community meals on your little idealized leftist commune, how is it different than a gated community? a fucking suburb? congratulations, you've invented a gay homeowners' association.

Time for me to remind everyone who follows me that if you write “jokes” tagging the creators of small queer media threatening them with harm if they don’t write when you want them to write? I personally and intensely dislike you and think you are a garbage human being. I hope you shit your pants in public.

One hundred and twenty nine years ago, the world was welcoming one of the greatest storytellers ever.
Ok, I’m one day late and I really wish I could have created something new for the birthday of our dear old friend, but in any case, it’s always good to celebrate the fantastic works of the one and only, J.R.R. Tolkien.
Hope you are surrounded by all that’s green and good, dear sir. Thank you for the world you brought to life!
And a happy week ahead everyone! 🍃⚔️📖

thinking about how in the Lord of the Rings books, as opposed to his attitude of ‘I personally liked Boromir more’, Denethor tells Faramir that he DOES wish Faramir had died instead of Boromir, in a moment that captures his character and defines him perfectly.
This isn’t to say that he comes off better here. Indeed, a lot of people might prefer movie!Denethor’s selfishness and favoritism because, horrible and cruel as it is to tell your own son you liked their dead sibling better, it is nonetheless an understandable and selfish cruelty. For some reason, a lot of people tend to respond better to that kind of mentality, even if they personally disagree with it. The motives of the selfish often resonate more with people, and it may not be a good idea to dwell on why.
However, Book!Denethor is not like that. He actually gives a reason for preferring Faramir to have died, and it totally encapsulates his character: he reasons that it would have been better for Faramir to die, because he feels that Faramir’s closeness to Gandalf (being “a wizard’s pupil”) presents a danger to Gondor’s sovereignty and independence, and that Boromir was a skilled commander who is a more certain military asset than Faramir.
It is cold.
It is ruthless.
It is chillingly pragmatic, and in another series (such as Game of Thrones, or the military sci fi genre), Denethor would likely be narratively considered a hero for valuing one child over another on strictly utilitarian grounds, or at least considered reasonable.
However, in Lord of the Rings, that kind of pragmatism corrupts men into monsters. It is what made Saruman despair and throw his lot in with Sauron, reasoning that they could rule together rather than be defeated. It is what made Sauron, ages ago, corrupt into the madness of seeing the world and demanding that only his vision of order and absolute tyranny could make it flourish.
In a more pragmatic or ruthless setting, Denethor would be a hard man making hard decisions. In LoTR, however, hard men are the reason things have gotten bad, and hard men will break and leave nothing behind.
