I am soooo in love with this production. Phwooar, this song is so beautiful, the production gives so much space for the vocals but the right sounds are selected to still give a really nice foundation for the vocals. Its so subtle and smooth. Absolutely love the melody horn line. Simplicity is key.

Super interested in learning the ins and outs of Serum. I love lush pads and always want to know how to make them.

This was super handy. I need to work with Simpler a lot more as it gives a lot of freedom for what can be musically achieved.

Cool, this is cool. Some good stuff to help compartmentalise the creativity

Okay. Firstly. Every single track of Sampa’s (produced by Silent Jay) is just phenomenal. I absolutely love his production style.
It feels so raw but has the real funky hip hop flavour of post-Dilla production.
Its so simple but just fits so well. I love how the vocals become instruments in themselves in this tune.
I am going to start recording my vocals and putting them on my tracks.
That is my aspiration for the next few months, to start putting my live sound and electronic sound together.

Gosh i love Synkro. I want to learn how to create this really dubby sound that still has such a warming ambient feel to it. I love how the drums are really raw still feel so mellow because of the atmosphere of the reverb vocals and pads. Again, this artist reminds me that i really want to learn more about the different elements of sound that fit well together.
Its quite a challenge for me to put so much conceptual analysis into the production. Listening to what i have made and really trying to feel what the sound needs to feel whole and really alive.
I want to keep learning compositional tools that allow me find the ways of expressing the right feelings in my work.

This whole album blows my mind. The production is perfect. I want to learn how to make each sound fit as perfectly as they do (they are the ultimate techno wizards). Because the sound quality is so incredible, even the smallest changes has such a big effect on the music. I really want to learn more about how to EQ and make sound fit in the right places- How to EQ and compress according to the other sounds around it. The more I learn i realise how important this is because it really defines the quality of the sound and therefore the music.
The synth line that goes throughout this tune is so inviting, I love how clear and pure it is, creates such a good contrast to the deeper sounds.
I want to learn how to make music as fabulous as this.

This music remind me the importance of working with live sounds, instruments and field recordings. I absolutely love the aliveness of analogue music.
I want to learn how to make music that can be this soft and progressive but still keep you engaged and present. I love progressive and ambient music and I feel this sound is so lush the whole way through. It’s definitely an art i desire to learn- how to make music that doesn’t have to change to keep you engaged and the sound is enough.

Fred P is definitely one of my favourite Deep House producers. His style is so warm, progressive and deep. I naturally gravitate towards progressive styles of music because its so patient and takes the time to slowly draw you in and change gently to highlight to subtlety of sound. I would love to simulate some of his sounds, specifically the really distorted reversed sounding chords. Also love his pads in this tune. I love pads.

Here’s a link to some of my sketches. Because i didn’t know about this blog until a few weeks ago I haven’t been regularly uploading sketches on soundcloud of my process. So it doesn’t show a steady progression, but I still thought it would be good for me to upload these so I can see how my ideas and compositions change over time while I learn and discover more.
