the very tempting urge to abandon this crochet scarf project that i've been trying to finish for the last four months and start a new LONGER, MORE COMPLICATED project after learning how to tunisian crochet

of course !!! though, alistair isn't mine, he's @slashy-love's !!!

but oaugh they went back AGES. maeve, my dark elf/drow wild magic sorcerer, who was about to essentially be forced into her family's cult, fled across the sea to a nation called polperro, where she met alistair, a human, who was a student at the world-renowned magic academy there.

not having anywhere else to go, and considering her inability to control her (very volatile) magic, she enrolled there. with alistair being her senior, he showed her the ropes, and they grew quite close until his graduation. by then, maeve still had some years left to finish, and alistair was off into the world. but by then, maeve had fallen in love with him (and he her, though i'm not exactly sure when alistair began to develop feelings for her).

it wasn't until maybe five or so years after (ouagh i gotta work the timeline out still), they reunited, this time each introducing themselves as the king of the neighboring land, cirrane, and a lone wanderer trying to seek a cure to rid herself of her magic.

it wasn't before long that the continent was plunged into war, polperro against cirrane, and at some point, maeve had joined the cirrane council as an advisor to alistair and his wife relle. by then, the two had already had two children, i believe: sylas, the elder, and ophelia, the younger.

this, of course, was all devastating to maeve, but she loved alistair so much that she wanted nothing more than to be of use to him, in anyway she could, hence her joining the council. it was in the closing years of the war that alistair and maeve affaired, and in the few months before the war ended, they'd conceived a child: a bastard baby girl named airene (pronounced irene), which maeve had named her after alistair.

the war ended with the deaths of the cirrane monarchs (and the polperro monarchs as well if i remember correctly), smited by the hands of the gods, cracking the continent into two. maeve had to have been no less than 5 months pregnant, and of course alistair's death was the most devastating thing to have happened to her. i want to say that it even put her pregnancy in jeopardy, but thankfully there was a guard that maeve had gotten to know in her tenure on the council that helped not only to hide her pregnancy but also nurse her through it.

once airene was born, maeve didn't have the heart to keep her and take care of her. even if she wanted to raise airene, how could she have? she was the king's bastard, and even if they tried to hide it, there would've been too much suspicion around the child. and regardless, she reminded her too much of alistair. she ultimately gave airene up to an orphanage, and almost 15 ish years later, retaining her position on the council (up until recently) to serve ophelia as incoming queen, hasn't heard from, or of, her.

but yes !!! that's (part of) maeve's torrid and heartbroken past !!! :D

what i really like about having a completely unknown acc with just about no followers is that i feel no expectation to perform or behave in any sort of particular way (which i could just do on my bigger acc but there's something about being so miniscule that's so freeing, as in nothing i do or say carries as much weight here)
