It’s official: 2 x IHG Future Leaders will take the Distribution & Commercial Marketing track
We told all of you about the possibility of a Marketing track, depending on the profiles of the applicants. We’re super happy to announce that two lucky IHG Future Leaders will take the Distribution & Commercial Marketing track!
Based in bucolic Denham, 20 minutes out of London Marylebone and Global Headquarters of IHG, the team looks after e-commerce, social, mobile and programmatic media, performance marketing, loyalty marketing, and commercial campaigns.
This brand new 2-year programme will see the graduates go on two 1-year rotations, with 2 side projects to manage. The objective is to get a senior executive to manager position in the team by the end of the programme.
With more than 24 nationalities in the team, and an average age of 30, DCM is a fun place right now - especially as we’re tackling some of the most exciting initiatives of the company. We cannot wait!

What got me the job at IHG?
One of the best ways to prepare for our interviews is to read what others did. What got them the job at IHG? What’s the secret sauce?
Here’s some of our favourite ones:
‘I am so passionate about what I do and this came across in my interview. I could talk about my job all day! I also knew my CV inside and out and was ready to answer questions about my past roles quickly and with ease. I knew my facts, the figures that I suspected IHG wanted to know and I was honest. I think honesty comes across in an interview. I'm not perfect. Who is? And I was honest about the things I have learnt throughout my career. I had also read and understood the job specification for the roles I had applied for, had researched IHG and came to the interview with some ideas for change - which I shared diplomatically!’
Mary-Anne Duffy | Resourcing Manager, Europe Corporate and Global Functions
'I researched IHG's values and culture before my interview. I know that I'm motivated by enjoying my work and the people that I work with, so it was important to me that IHG was right for me too. In my interview, I showed them that I was prepared to work hard, shared their values and that I'd fit into their team. This was for a temporary role 3 years ago. Now I’m a permanent 'IHG-er' and I’m working on great things that I’d never thought that I would - be adaptable!’
Chris Alsworth | Employer Brand Executive
‘Being flexible in this industry and realising that even when you’re faced with problems they are simply ‘solutions waiting to be found’, goes a long way. It also helps to laugh out loud every now and then to keep the fun in your day!’
Terri Fynch | Director of HR - SEA & AA Resorts
Bonus: here’s a great example of what an IHG career looks like: 2 brands, 4 cities! Well done Maurice.

How to create a great Instagram video
Creating your 15-second Instagram video to grab a dinner with us isn’t that easy. You need to tell us what you’re most proud of in your way. Here are a few tips to get you started:
1. Define your topic and your angle
First, decide what you want to use as your subject. What are you most proud of? Your school results? Your family? A sports achievement? There are lots to be proud of, and no wrong answer. Take a look at these examples.
Once you have that, what will be your angle? Straightforward, documentary, funny, passionate...? Everything can work, but it’s better to stick to one: Instagram videos are only 15-second-long after all.
2. Plan your shots in advance - make them 2-sec-long
Decide in advance what shots you need. Examples could include:
selfie-style video of you talking
video of you doing something
different photos
landscape/panorama shots
and so much more!
A good rule of thumb to keep it entertaining is to change shots every 2 seconds or so. It gives a good pace to the video.
3. Don’t be shaky - steady your phone!
A shaky video is a dizzying experience. Make sure to fix your phone as best as you can for steadier shots. A simple tip is to make sure your elbows are resting on a table or the back of a chair for instance.
4. Use stop motion
Stop motion is the technique that consists in taking several still shots in a row, change the subject slightly with each still shot, and then showing them together to form a video. Practically, it means filming for an instant, then stopping, changing what you’re filming slightly, then filming for an instant, then stopping... etc. . Example:
vine
5. Use another app to shoot and edit the video
There are many good alternatives to Instagram and your native camera app to take photos or shoot video on your phone. Apps like like 8mm or Camera+ for instance are great for this.
A good video editing app like iMovie on iOS devices or VideoShow on Android ensures a great result.
6. Don’t forget to check the look & feel of your account
Take the time to polish your name, description, and link before posting your video - especially if you add a call-to-action within the video or its caption. The only way to add a link is in your profile’s description.

Win a dinner with the recruitment team when we are on your campus!
Get a free dinner, more time with the recruitment team, and a great chat about hotels, travel, fishing, dancing, knitting or whatever is your passion. It’s super simple:
Fire up Instagram*
Follow us by searching for IHG
Shoot a 15s video telling us the one thing you are most proud of (your school, a past internship, your cat, your hobby, your dance moves, there is no wrong answer)
Post it on your Instagram with the hashtag #ihghiddengems and the name of your school!
We’ll invite the best entries for a dinner the day before (or on the day) of our visit to your campus, to have a informal chat between hotel aficionados. Be creative, and may the best/funniest/most original video win!
*Make sure your Instagram is set to public, so that we can comment on your video to tell you if you’ve won.
