Scottish physician Patrick Manson was born in Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire on October 3rd 1844, he is regarded as founder of the field of Tropical Medicine.
Patrick Manson was a son of Alexander Manson and Elizabeth Livingstone Blaikie, his dad was the manager of the local Linen Bank, and Laird of Fingask. His mother was distant relative of the famed Christian missionary-explorer David Livingstone.
He developed a childhood passion in natural history, fishing, shooting, carpentry, mechanics and cricket. Among his Presbyterian-Christian family, he showed excellent memory for memorising church sermons at the age of 5 years. In 1857 his family moved to Aberdeen, where he started his formal education at Aberdeen’s Gymnasium School and continued at West End Academy.
Aged 13 1859 he was apprenticed to Blaikie Brothers “Iron masters” however struck down by a form of tuberculosis he had to leave this job, the ironworks loss would be medicines gain, a year later he entered Aberdeen University where he completed medicine course in 1865 however aged only nineteen and was underage for graduation, so he visited hospitals, museums and medical schools in London. Finally of age he formally graduated in October 1865, and was appointed Medical Officer at Durham Lunatic Asylum.
The following year he gained his Master of Surgery and his Medical Doctorate.
Immediately after qualifying Manson travelled to Formosa (now Taiwan) to take up a post as a medical officer to the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs. In 1871 he transferred to Amoy, on the Chinese coast, and 13 years later he moved to Hong Kong, where he practiced from 1883 to 1889. Manson developed an early interest in tropical diseases, and in particular in the role of parasites in their transmission. His initial studies were on filaria, a small parasitic worm that causes elephantiasis: and he was able to show that mosquitoes had a key role in transmitting the worms and spreading the disease.
Manson’s discovery helped inform the work of Sir Ronald Ross, who was studying the transmission of malaria in India at the time. While in Hong Kong, Manson helped found the Hong Kong College of Medicine for Chinese, which later formed the nucleus of the University of Hong Kong. He was also the first person to import dairy cattle from Scotland to Hong Kong, starting a dairy industry there supplying hygienic milk affordable by pregnant women, children and patients.
Manson moved to London in 1889 and in 1897 was appointed to the post of Chief Medical Officer to the Colonial Office. Amongst his early initiatives was the foundation of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, which opened in 1899. He was elected to the Royal Society in 1900, knighted in 1903 and in the following year awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Oxford. In 1907 he became the first president of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine, and retired from the colonial office in 191
Retiring in 1912 to fish in Ireland Manson returned to London at the beginning of the First World War. Despite crippling attacks of gout he continued to take a lively interest in medical education.
He died in London in 1922 at the age of 78 and is buried at Allenvale Cemetery in Aberdeen.

is that nihal durmaz , rocking the new burberry ? wow , she look just like hafsanur sancaktutan! last i heard , they are a twenty-four year old elite from istambul , turkey . they’re a well known culinary chef who likes to travel around the world loooking for inspiration in their free time , and despises the bureaucracy that comes with the job . i think they’ll do fine at the berry , since they seem to be dauntless ; but i don’t know , others have said they’re quite heedless as well !
background.
raised by two famous surgeons, her parents were basically known as the it couple in medicine at some point. they worked together through a lot of researches, published so much work they began circling the globe giving classes and speeches. and then, when nihal was around four years old, they moved to germany after a company offered them their own hospital and a never ending budget for researching a new mechanism they've been working on.
growing up, nihal was always at the hospital, wether it was at the hospital daycare while her parents worked way too many hours or laying on a chair in their offices while they stayed overnight working on their papers. she didn't really mind, she enjoyed being included and mostly, she enjoyed how insane their routine always were.
she was a great student growing up, nothing less would be acceptable in her household. and for a long time, she really thought she wanted to follow into her parents footsteps. she worked hard through high school and managed to get accepted into oxford with a honor scholarship to pursue a medical career.
it lasted a whole two years. while she managed to get good grades and the teachers would swear she was promising, there wasn't anything that exciting about it. she'd often find herself disassociating during class and whenever people fell on the subject of working after college, there was a weird taste in her mouth. but the real pin drop was when they started working on real people, the thought of a single fuck up ruining someone's life or ending it, was too overwhelming for her. between the disgusting classes with dead bodies and the clinic hours, she couldn't handle it anymore and decided to drop off.
she hid it from her parents for a few months, until it was christmas time and she had to go home. she news weren't well received, as expected, but they agreed to allow her another year in london to figure herself out, granted she would find a job as soon as the break was over.
and that's how it started, without a college degree, she started looking for any place that would take her. and soon ended up working for a restaurant just three blocks from her home. at first, it was cutting vegetables and cleaning off fish before the executive chef started paying more attention to her and allowed her to weight in a little more. funny enough, her skill with scalpel seemed to be just as useful in the kitchen.
she started going professional, doing courses on the side while working at the restaurant, and soon enough she started getting promoted. in about three years, she was already second in command and craving new experiences and environments. she quit her job at the little italian restaurant near her place and used her connections to get herself a bigger job, a famous restaurant in town that would make people see her.
and they did, only a year later she was opening her restaurant a few blocks down, in the most bubbling neighborhood in london. founding was easy to get, between her parents name being a reliable one and her online presence becoming stronger and stronger, the opening night was filled with big names and her place a must see.
six months later and nihal is basically the internet's go-to for anything food related. from her tiktok series visiting famous places around the world to taste their street food, trying hollywood movies recipes and asking her to comment on the new show the bear (she can't stand it anymore). she's an internet sensation, going viral more often than she'd like, and the joining berry was just another marking decision she couldn't pass on.
personality.
funny enough, nihal was a quiet kid growing up. even with the success her parents had achieved through their work they always made sure to keep her feet on the ground and humble themselves as much as possible. hard work was always appreciated in her house and that carried onto her life.
she doesn't really enjoy the attention, honestly. you wouldn't be able to tell frm how many stories she has to post a day and how much she's on tiktok but having her personal life on a billboard is an insane concept for her. she started doing the internet content and tv show's appearances thinking that would lead people to care for her work, but it backfired and now she doesn't know how to walk away from that.
ever the know it all and she's not afraid to correct you on anything. tends to yap a lot once she knows you well, will jump from subject to subject non stop and ask everything about your life on any chance she gets.
the internet character she made for herself is an exaggerated version of what she's like in real life, being a hard critic from time to time is good for the likes and shares but she'd hardly behave like that in real life.

HOW YOU MIGHT KNOW / WHERE YOU MIGHT MEET CEE -- a quick and dirty guide
VIOLET'S BAR, LONDON. Celia bought Violet's in 2014 with her best friend Alessia Pixie in London's West End. The bar was voted the most up-and-coming in 2015 and was the background for many fashion parties on Instagram. While Alessia manages the day-to-day running of the bar, it remains Celia's main watering hole (free drinks, close to her house!), and she can often be found here.
THE HOLMES ART COLLECTIVE. When Celia was twenty-eight, she took over her mother's charity, The Holmes Art Collective. The charity buys art from around the world, sometimes priceless originals and lends them to hospitals and public spaces. While the collective has three full-time members of staff who actually do the work, Cee is the face of the charity and buys work on behalf of the collective. It may or may not also be a front for money laundering.
VOGUE MAGAZINE. Celia worked for Vogue Magazine (French, British and American) from 2008 to 2020 (or continues to work for the magazine, depending on the verse). She's a prominent name in fashion, even after she has left the magazine.
ENGLISH PRIVATE SCHOOL. Celia's high school is an elite fee-paying boarding school based somewhere in England. It's kept vague to allow for pre-established things. Although it was an all-girls school, it would have had a "brother" school, and the two schools would have regularly intermixed while she was there.
CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY. Although Cee never graduated, she spent four years at Cambridge University in the early 2000s. For the sake of plot, this can be changed to any London-based university or Oxford.
LONDON/NEW YORK CITY NIGHTLIFE. There is nothing Celia enjoys more than a night on the town. A late supper, a karaoke bar, and dancing until the early morning. The more trouble she can get into, the better. Cee will often go home with someone she doesn't know over going home on her own.

Re your 'banana shit' post: what are good sources to learn about the human cost in export economies and international shipping?
"The use of harmful child labor is widespread in Ecuador’s banana sector. Researchers for the Human Rights Watch report, Tainted Harvest: Child Labor and Obstacles to Organizing on Ecuador’s Banana Plantations, spoke with forty-five child laborers during their three-week long fact-finding mission in Ecuador. Forty-one of the children began working between the ages of eight and thirteen, most starting at ages ten or eleven. Their average workday lasted twelve hours, and fewer than 40 percent of the children were still in school by the time they turned fourteen.
In the course of their work, they were exposed to toxic pesticides, used sharp knives and machetes, hauled heavy loads of bananas, drank unsanitary water, and some were sexually harassed. Roughly 90 percent of the children told Human Rights Watch that they continued working while toxic fungicides were sprayed from airplanes flying overhead. For their efforts, the children earned an average of $3.50 per day, approximately 60 percent of the legal minimum wage for banana workers."
"In the geographically small countries of Central America, a couple of US-based banana companies have wielded enormous influence. The United Fruit Company (now known as Chiquita) acquired so much power in Guatemala and Honduras that it came to function as a state within a state, giving rise to the notion of “banana republics.” The company consolidated its power through various means: it installed authoritarian civilian and military governments that gave concessions to land, railroads, and ports; it divided its labor force along ethnic and racial lines; it built hospitals, schools, workers’ barracks, and houses for its management; and it used massive amounts of pesticides and herbicides in a capital intensive effort to cultivate varieties of the fruit that North American consumers came to expect but which were susceptible to Panama disease and Black Sigatoka. Bananas and plantains are a dietary staple throughout the tropics, and the diseases that beset the Gros Michel and Cavendish varieties that are grown on monocrop plantations threaten a vital source of healthy and relatively cheap calories that much of the world has come to rely upon."
"Benthic macroinvertebrates are usually abundant in rivers, represent several trophic levels, participate in nutrient cycling and differ in sensitivity to pollution. Most of them have small home ranges, at least in aquatic stages, and usually have long life cycles and thus are good bioindicators as they provide information about the water quality integrated over a longer time period, compared to the values given by water samples taken at discrete points in time. Pesticide and nutrient levels in the aquatic environment can be expected to vary, with peaks after application and high rainfall events. Monitoring of pesticide levels thus requires a very frequent sampling to detect peak concentrations (Liess et al. 2003). Another concern is that toxic effects can result from exposure near or below the analytical detection limit for a given pesticide (Walter et al. 2002) or from a combination of pesticides and other stressors, e.g. temperature or high nutrient loads (Polidoro and Morra 2016). It is also important to consider the effect of chronic exposure to pesticides as well as the exposure to mixtures of several pesticides, which together can cause toxic effects through additive toxicity (Verbruggen and van den Brink 2010).
The possible additive or synergistic effects between stressors are a major concern in rivers, which receive irrigation and run-off water from banana farms. Large-scale banana farming relies on the use of fungicides, nematicides, insecticides and herbicides. Most often, several different compounds of each type of pesticide are applied over the year in order to minimize risk of inducing resistance in pests. The extensive system of drainage canals in a typical banana farm causes increased stream flashiness and sedimentation and due to high precipitation a substantial amount of pesticides and nutrients end up in the aquatic environment. Non-target aquatic organisms further downstream will thus be subjected to a complex mixture of toxic substances, fertilizers and changes in stream flow."
"The conversion of natural ecosystems to intensive banana production systems can have negative effects on soil health, such as erosion, loss of organic matter and biodiversity, in addition to chemical, biological and physical imbalances. Indeed, soil degradation is a major factor limiting the productivity and sustainability of the banana sector. Banana growers worldwide, from conventional and organic export monocrops to mixed food gardens with bananas, suffer soil degradation processes through a complex of factors which vary by system and agroclimatic region. Salinization (due to inadequate irrigation practices and drainage), compaction, nutrient imbalances (due to the unavailability of organic fertilizers, soil depletion or over-fertilization, loss of biological activity), and incidence of soil-borne pathogens (loss of diversity of soil biota resulting in low disease suppressiveness) are key issues in banana plantations worldwide."

In the 1 month skip between episode 59 and 60 in Season 3 of Soy Luna, what are some things you think happened?
Im going to do this summarized hc style because I’m at the airport and it would take a while to write down a month’s worth of scenes
Sharon spends the first two weeks in the hospital, being unconscious for three days after the rescue team manage to pull her out of the fire, when she regains consciousness and starts babbling on about Bernie and “How dare they steal my fortune” and stuff, they go to ask Alfredo if he agrees to send her to a mental health facility, which he promptly agrees to, and that’s how she ends up getting treatment there
The fire only damaged Sharon’s Lili and Bernie’s and Ámbar’s rooms, which half relieved Ámbar and half pained her, because, while she could fully refurbish it to fit her, now more mature, tastes, since everything from her spoiled brat and goth phases turned into ash which upset Simón quite a bit, since he loooved her goth clothes, that meant that all her memories from those times were also gone, and not even Luna could cheer her up when she realized that, she locked herself in her temporary new room and cried for days, letting out all the pain she held in her entire life, only opening the door to grab the food that Monica left on her doorstep
Luna turned her parents’ old room into a memorial, putting everything that was left of them in there, she keeps it locked most of the time, the memories are too painful but when everything gets to be too much, she goes in there and talks to them, or cries, for a few hours
Luna and Ámbar go to therapy, after Simón, the Valentes, Alfredo and Nina insisting for months, that results in Luna, who is learning to prioritize her own well-being over other people’s comfort, convincing Matteo to also get therapy, and he, in turn, starts unlearning all his harmful and self-sabotaging behaviors
This particular point is canon divergent. So, since I don’t remember it happening, I’m gonna choose to believe there weren’t any Niric scenes after the timeskip, so that + the fact that while all the other couples were next to each other in that shot near the end of the episode, they were apart, can only mean that Gastón visited during his vacation period from Oxford and apologized, so he and Nina got back together, as it should’ve been, but he has to go back before the festival and Luna’s birthday, but Nina applied to go there a few weeks before, because, even though she might run into him, it was her dream to study abroad, long story short, she gets accepted and then rest is history
Since Sharon made sure she couldn’t go to the school in Paris, Ámbar applied and got accepted into one in BA, starting a year later than she was supposed to, but she, if anyone, is gonna turn that around, possibly overworking herself so she can graduate early, but she’s got her Mexicans to make sure she doesn’t take on more than she can handle
Nico and Ada end up breaking it off, since I don’t see how that would work, and he comes back right after Luna’s birthday, making the band complete, and since everyone else gets busy and stops going to roller as much, they start getting gigs in other places, eventually catching the eye of a more ethical record label fuck you vidia and signing their first album
There’s not much to be said about Jim & Yam, except that they’re thriving at their
Matteo released his first record the week before, since his songs were already decently polished and well rehearsed, the process was really fast
And since the whole group agreed that the Festival was their last performance together, with Nina leaving to join Gastón in Oxford, the band going full swing with their first album, Ámbar starting law school, Matteo going on tour, Delfi going to college for journalism, Jazmin getting the offer to be a part of Fundom, and lastly, to everyone’s joy, Benicio disappearing off the face of the earth, Luna, Ramiro and a newly redeemed Emilia, decided to form a team together, with Juliana’s guidance of course, the process of finding other members was quite a pain, but eventually they managed to find other three people, and they became quite known in skating circles across the world, their team name? Eclipse, after their main founding member and captain
I got a little carried away and started getting into their futures afterwards, but I hope you like it!

Mistakes to Avoid When Selecting a Hotel Management College
When searching for Institute of Hotel Management schools, you might end up making errors in choosing one - here are five mistakes you should avoid when selecting a hotel management college in Jaipur.
Failure to Cross-Verify Information You Receive
Finding the ideal institute requires diligent research, gathering all of the pertinent information, before finalizing a decision. When looking for a hotel management college in jaipur such as AIHCM, be sure to gather all pertinent details such as course details, faculty, reviews and infrastructure - this information could make or break your career prospects! Taking time and care with cross-checking all information received will ensure a better experience overall.
Failure of Peer Pressure
One of the biggest mistakes young adults make when selecting their college is choosing it based on what their peers recommend. Every student has different needs and any slight deviation in career direction can have disastrous repercussions in the form of debt and lost opportunities in life. When selecting cruise ship hotel management as your field of study, select a college with not only theoretical offerings but also in-house practice facilities like training restaurants, front office labs, model guest rooms and housekeeping labs as this will enable students to complete field experience at various hotels across India - make sure it offers good internship options!
Not Focusing on Communication Skills
For those considering careers in hospitality management, communication skills are of utmost importance. You will interact with clients from around the globe; without sufficient confidence in talking to tourists from foreign countries it will become impossible to find work. AIHCM collaborates with Oxford University to enhance student's communication abilities; hosting seminars, workshops and classes on this matter at their institute to assist with managing different situations effectively.
Bad Placement Records
Have you selected colleges that have excellent placement records. When selecting institutes to apply at, consider picking those with excellent placement records - institutes like AIHCM offer great starts by placing employees for salaries ranging between 2.4 lakh per annum up to 7.5 lakh annually - any less will not make your effort worth while and any institute which provides support for further studies will only add another layer of success!
Missing the Campus Tour
Before making your choice, don't skip out on visiting the campus tour of any college you want to choose. Take time to experience how it feels like home and if the environment matches up. A campus tour shouldn't take more than a couple of hours and could make all the difference when selecting your perfect college - colleges such as AIHCM offer facilities like gym, food science club, digital library and computer lab that could make all the difference when making this important decision.
Conclusion
Selecting an ideal hotel management college in jaipur can be a difficult challenge. While putting together a check list will help identify positive attributes of each institution you visit, mistakes could still happen during the search and put your career at risk if not carefully planned out and executed. With these steps listed above you will avoid such errors in search.

Because at a very young age, Hasan had dreamt about saving lifes. It wasn’t some crude awakening or an experience with a friend or family member, no, Hasan simply wished to understand the human body, and he knew in there lay the answer to saving lifes.
He spent far too much time in the Surgical museum in his home city, before his parents moved to Fenrir’s Wood of all places because his father got a job at Oxford and they wanted to be able to afford a house. Hasan instantly started boasting about his own ability, even at age elven. Still, despite how cold he could be and how he liked learning more than any other student - and also he didn’t have a favourite football team, though he did love learning about the many injuries that happened in football - Hasan had plenty of friends. Either kids who like him were gigantic nerds, or kids who thought he was cool.
He didn’t much care for anyone’s approval, at least not for the appraisal of his fellow students, his peers however, their approval he fought hard for. Great marks eventually got him a place to study to become a surgeon in Edinburgh, and he’d dreamt of staying there for the rest of his life, if not for fate having another plan for him.
It was two weeks before his big move that he got bitten. He was sick for two months, and missed so many introductory classes that the school suggested he enrol for the year after. He would’ve thrown a fit about it normally, if not for the realisation dawning that it wasn’t just a normal wolf that had bitten him. He was approached by the pack leader of Fenrir Pack the moment he got out of hospital, and started his training right after. His new friends and pack were very much against him still going to Edinburg to study, but Hasan carved his own path.
He returned with a high degree ten years later, some cool scars, and a good few Werewolves in tow who joined Fenrir Pack at his introduction. He got a spot as a surgeon, having done his internships all over Scotland. As the years progressed, Hasan furthered his new dreams, he became a professor at Park College, a stone throw from his house, and he managed to get himself elected as pack leader after the one who had given him his first lessons retired.
The mystery that hangs over Fenir’s Wood now is perhaps his greatest challenge, but he is a man of action and of knowledge, so while the other members of the council run around trying to protect their own and as many as the citizens of the city as possible, Hasan is collecting facts.
HEADCANONS -
Looks very stoic and intense, but can totally surprise him. He's a warm person, he just doesn't warm up easily.
Loves to talk about the human body, it has always fascinated him, and he's glad he's got to make it his job.
As a true doctor, Hasan doesn't like to be called doctor and definitely doesn't follow his own advice.
WANTED CONNECTIONS -
People who knew him when he was growing up in Fenrir's Wood.
People who he met in Scotland
Werewolves he brought along with him from Scotland
Fellow Fenrir Pack werewolves
Wolves he's taken under his wings

However, they can only use these services after a referral from a general practitioner and with authorisation from case management.
PlatComprehensive, the premium option of Platinum Health, provides extensive healthcare cover to meet demanding needs. It includes unlimited hospitalisation at DSP hospitals at 100% of the Scheme’s Tariff and PMB cover for both acute and chronic medications subject to the scheme’s formulary.
To become a member of Platinum Health, you must notify your current medical aid provider and give them the required notice period. You must also provide proof of termination. Once you have done this, you can then contact the Platinum Health Client Liaison Department to submit your claims. You can do this by visiting the website or calling their customer support line.
NDIS
The NDIS is a new way to provide disability services for people living in Australia. The scheme provides participants with funding to purchase personalised supports in areas such as housing, health, education, employment and community participation. The scheme also gives participants more control over their own supports and provides certainty of support over their lifetime.
NDIS core support funding can cover expenses such as continence products or nutritional supplements, and it can also cover transport costs between activities. It can also cover fees associated with finding and keeping a job, such as interview training and assistance with writing a resume.
If you’re considering getting a NDIS package, you’ll want to consider your options carefully. Agency-managed plans allow you to choose from a limited list of service providers, which means you have less choice and control over how your funds are spent. Alternatively, you can self-manage your NDIS package, which allows you to choose any provider you like.

Hospitality & Tourism Management: Switzerland vs. Australia vs. UK
Seeking globetrotting hospitality careers, should overseas students target academic hubs like Switzerland or exposure focused destinations such as Australia and the UK? Evaluating key study and work nuances help clarify best fits.
Switzerland provides unmatched access towards luxury hotel groups, fine dining establishments and $100 billion global events industry anchored in its geographic position between western continental economies and proximate emerging eastern markets. Tax advantages also enable higher take home salaries.
However, niche curriculum gaps require fixing through focused Master's programs at select institutions like Les Roches or IHTTI School of Hotel Management buttressed by intensive French or German language strides mandating longer stays reaping professional dividends.
Australia offers shorter 12-24 months Master's options but focuses more towards tourism infrastructure operations suiting international enrollments from Asia. Work permits get extended to 3 years but hotel/restaurant scene maturity lags.
The UK offers middle grounds blending reputed academic institutes like Oxford Brookes University or University of West London with high-growth experience economies around London and Manchester where global events, Airbnb, MICE and multifaceted hospitality verticals drive major recruitments.
Therefore by aligning sector interests, long-term mobility plans and adapting cultural fit abilities, students seeking overseas hospitality excellence choose between Switzerland's pinnacles or British dynamism and accessibility.

meet HASAN JACKSON
Hey, isn’t that HASAN JACKSON. I thought they went away for the summer? Did you hear they might be a WEREWOLF? What I do know for certain is that they’re FORTY-ONE, and they’re EDUCATED and METHODICAL. They’re originally from EDINBURG, SCOTLAND, and have been in FENRIRSWOOD for 30 YEARS living in GRANT PARK. I wonder if they still work as a PROFESSOR AT PARK COLLEGE AND GENERAL SURGEON AT FENRIR CENTRAL HOSPITAL. Best if they stay safe for now.
Hasan carved his own path.
That was the most important thing he ever wanted anyone to know about him. His family, his friends, school. He knew what he wanted to be, and he fought anyone who might stop him from getting there. Because at a very young age, Hasan had dreamt about saving lifes. It wasn’t some crude awakening or an experience with a friend or family member, no, Hasan simply wished to understand the human body, and he knew in there lay the answer to saving lifes.

23.08.23
aïe aïe aïe i posted a recap of the altin gun concert but the tumblr app just like didn't post it and now it's gone, great!
but anyway, yeah, if it works this time the video will appear here:
so yeah there were soooo many people. here is a pic my parents took and another one from nik's story:
i managed to squeeze myself through the crowd and get to the first row ofc. and i went through so many emotions... when they played this i cried. and at the end i screamed MARRY ME at merve at the top of my lungs, i hope she heard me lol. she's soooo hot oh my...
the only downside is that i didnt see many real fans at the concert. most people just stood there or worse were talking. meanwhile i jumper up and down and danced like crazy and screamed the lyrics in turkish lol. did i annoy a lot of people? probably. but i wasn't just gonna stand there while my favourite band was playing. the emotions i felt you guys...
my oxford bestie and i wanted to go to sarajevo to see lepa brena live at the zetra arena in april but now im scared because i feel like if i see her live i will just die like i will go into cardiac arrest.
so yeah, so many emotions!
other than that panda and i went to this event yesterday and i didn't network with anyone, i just ate. a lot. the buffet was so good you guys. but i legit couldnt move afterwards. it was too much.
and today i was at the library as always and i saw this girl i knew in college. and it like disturbed me idk.
so a bit of a back story, i bumped into another girl i went to college with on the street the other day. and i remember i really wanted to be friends with her but she like never reciprocated and idk why. we would talk at break time, we texted a bit, we went to germany for an exchange together, she came to my house for a party once. like we got along fine and i really wanted to get to know her bc idk she was just cool. but every time id ask her to hang out she'd just say "yeah yeah" and it never went any further. and then i got a bit frustrated and stopped initiating things and she stopped talking to me all together bc it was always me who'd make the first move.
then she stopped going to school and to be frank with you i hadn't noticed. i thought she just missed a couple of classes because we only had one class together that year and i didn't see her much anyway. but then after graduation i bumped into her on the tram and she said that she had fallen ill and had to drop out. and i felt horrible. because i was selfish thinking that she didn't like me, but she was at the hospital and i hadn't even noticed or sent a "how are you" text. i felt super guilty.
and ever since then idk, id always thought about her as like "the one who got away" in a way, you know what i mean? because i feel like we could've been great friends but she didn't like me as much as i liked her and plus she had fallen ill and things happened and i never got the chance to like become her friend. like i remember every time we'd find ourselves like alone at breaktime or on that trip to germany and we'd have these great conversations, but then things would get in the way and it always felt like we never had enough time. at least on my end. idk.
and ive bumped into her on the street god knows how many times. i haven't seen people i was actually close with in college as much as ive seen her! and every time im like "let's get coffee" and she just goes "uh-huh" and that's it. and then i bump into her again and im like god damn it, i missed my chance again! and this has been going on for literal years. things like this really make me think that im autistic
so i bumped into her again this week!
and today i saw her from across the hall talking to another girl from high school! and this is where it gets weird.
so this other girl who was with her, i remember her quite well! we were always partners in chemistry class and we did a project about nitsche for philosophy class and i think we had french together too, did we? and i remember she had a dog and liked anime. and i remembered all those things about her. and i literally haven't thought about her in yearssss! ...and i couldn't remember her name.
i was like shit. okay. chemistry class. nietzsche. dog. anime. what's her name damn it????? i couldn't remember it.
and it made me feel weird. because in order to try and remember her name i started to like dig up all those memories from college. and the more i thought about it the weirder it got. bc on one hand im like huh 2018 wasn't so long ago was it? but then i remember ahhhh chemistry class ahhhh p.e. ahhh being a teenager. it all seems so surreal. and i don't remember any of it clearly. it's all in this like weird fog.
and it sucks because i feel like since i was permanently in this "foggy" state in high school it like stunted my growth. because i missed out on so many normal teenage experiences that i can't catch up on now. like instead of having a normal relationship, i had umm my 30 yr old ex. instead of going to normal teenage parties i went to germany with a 50 year old drug addict. and i was so in my head... like. i really wasn't present. and while everyone else made lifelong friends i was just. not present.
and like it's not a big deal. at least i had the parties and the drugs and the boyfriend, right? i wasn't a loner, i wasn't bullied, i was fine. but it just like... frustrated me. that like. the "girl who got away" got a girlfriend, while i was hanging out with my 30 yr old. and she's in touch with my other former friend from highschool. meanwhile i was too busy to maintain friendships bc i was hanging out with my 30 yr old. it's all very frustrating bc i can't get that time back. i can't catch up on everything ive missed out on. and now im this friendless loser who can't remember anyone's name.
