Julio Lopez dialogue as a source of permanent enrichment
Julio Lopez, dialogue as a source of permanent enrichment https://ift.tt/W4lEYMB Talking to Julio Lopez is like getting a good dose of optimism. His enthusiasm is infectious and listening to him everything seems possible. And that’s just as well, because he helps our students to find the path that is right for them. Can you share your background with us? I am from Marbella. I studied in Les Roches Crans-Montana and when I finished I studied with Cordon Bleu. I have studied in countries like: Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, UK, Cambodia, Thailand, Nicaragua, and Tanzania. Always in something related to the F&B department and as an Operations Manager. What made you want to teach? Today I work as a Finance teacher, but the truth is that when I joined Les Roches it was as a F&B teacher, without knowing what to expect. But I discovered that I loved teaching!!! Being in class with the students is an amazing feeling. Why did you choose Les Roches rather than another hotel management school? Being form Marbella, where there is a Les Roches campus, I always knew that Les Roches was a great school. I decided to go to Crans-Montana campus because I wanted to discover new places. Being in class with the students is an amazing feeling. How would you define Les Roches? What makes Les Roches unique? Les Roches is a family. It is unique because of that. The connection between students and between students and teachers/staff is incredible. More like a family. Has the atmosphere of Les Roches influenced the way you prepare your courses? Absolutely. I try to be close to my students and create discussions on topics. To share information and knowledge not only from me but from the rest of the students. What is your definition of the transmission of knowledge? You need to be passionate about it to be able to share the knowledge. Your students need to know that you love what you talk about. Beyond the technical aspect, what do you try to transmit to your students? Passion and empathy. Your students need to know that you love what you talk about. Do you have a secret for getting the best out of each student? I am very honest and friendly with my students. I believe I am very transparent and they open to me because of that. In your opinion, are there any fundamental values that a student should possess if he or she wants to work in hotel management? Passion, empathy and patience. Be inclusive, be caring, be open. In your opinion, will these notions, which are essential for the new generations, change the face of the hotel industry? Absolutely. Some hotel companies are still a bit old fashioned in some cases. I believe the new generations will change that and will adapt to what they think is important… and I agree with them. Being inclusive, caring and open should be the normality. Sustainability will be essential as well. I believe the new generations will change that and will adapt to what they think is important. In your opinion, what can – and will – the new generations bring to the hotel sector? Or the world of work in general? Empathy, inclusivity, openness, and honesty. In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing the hotel sector in 2023? The hotel sector needs to adapt to the taste of a new generation. Technology will be extremely important and even though the hotel sector adapts to technology, probably they will need to adapt even faster. The F&B department will need a big change, whereby fresh, local products will be demanded by the new generation of guests. Veganism and sustainability will be two other things the hotel sector will need to consider. The post Julio Lopez, dialogue as a source of permanent enrichment appeared first on Les Roches.

Faz Frio “I wanted to respect what was already here, the restaurant’s legacy,” - Jorge Marques, Owner ‘Faz Frio’. Lisbon is a changing city. There aren’t many restaurants here that have survived in the same venue, with the same name, continually serving food for the last 100 years. Just nine of those century-old venues remain open: ‘Café Nicola', ‘Cervejaria Trindade’, ‘Estrela da Sé’, ‘Faz Frio’, ‘João do Grão’, 'Leão d’Ouro’, ‘Martinho da Arcada’, ‘O Polícia’ and ‘Tavares’. ‘Faz Frio’ in Príncipe Real reopened in 2019 after almost a year of intense restoration work. It would’ve been cheaper to tear the whole thing down and start from scratch. But Jorge Marques, its new owner, didn’t opt for the easy route. Marques ordered new custom-made tiles to match the exact same pattern of the original ones - most of which were damaged beyond repair. The two private dining rooms - a rarity in Lisbon - were repainted, refurbished and made brighter, thanks to new lighting, as was the main room, which now has a marble counter with five seats. The famous statue of a sailor by Portuguese poet and artist Mario Cesariny was cleaned and put back in its place at the entrance of the restaurant. With left-hand in pocket the sailor welcomes every client and honours a former cook who was a navy officer. Marques studied ‘Hotel Management’ at ‘Les Roches Marbella’ - one of the best hospitality schools in Europe - and spent several months learning on the job at ‘Dinner' by Heston Blumenthal in London. Next up Marques worked on the management team and front of the house at three different restaurants in Miami Beach before crashing his motorcycle. The accident required Marques to have knee surgery so he flew back to Portugal, where he stayed post-surgery. More work followed in Portugal and Norway (at three-star Michelin restaurant ‘Maaemo’). By now Marques wanted his own place. (at Restaurante Faz Frio) https://www.instagram.com/p/CarbPGNMdXI/?utm_medium=tumblr

Personalización, digitalización y aprendizaje permanente, las tendencias de la educación del futuro
See on Scoop.it - Education 2.0 & 3.0

Student Governance Association (SGA) as an important part of Les Roches Marbella Student Life
Student Governance Association (SGA) as an important part of Les Roches Marbella Student Life https://ift.tt/nwl7ZN5 This blog entry was written a fellow Les Roches Marbella student and member of the Student Governance Association. As a student at Les Roches Marbella, SGA is part of our daily routine. We have clubs happening almost every day of the week during the entire semester run by SGA. Regarding the clubs, we have Sports Clubs such as Volleyball, Cross Fit, Golf, Tennis, Dance Club and many others. Also, we have Emerald Clubs which are Debate, Sustainability, and Podcast Club. Last but not least, as proud Hospitality students, we have the Food & Beverage Clubs which includes the Gastro, Wine, and Mixology Club. As SGA is a community organized & dedicated by and for the students, any Les Roches student can create and develop their club. So, as soon as you join our Way of Life, if you have an idea for a new one, you can talk to the Head of Clubs and check out the best way to start your own club! The SGA is also responsible for different events happening during our school semester. The Welcome Party is, normally, the first event of the semester organized by SGA and it is a great opportunity to meet your colleagues, talk to people, and start creating some network. The Sports Day is another big event of the semester and, as the name says, it is a day dedicated to different Sports. At the beginning of each semester, new students will be allocated randomly to Houses (Blue, Green, Purple, or Red House), and during Sports Day the Houses compete with each other so, in the end, we have a winning house! Talking about my favorite event of the semester, the Cultural Food Fair is an event where people from the same country get together and cook classic dishes from their country. It is super fun to walk around with your friends and try new cuisines. We always find out more about other cultures and it is always a truly enriching experience! Trying out new food is super nice, but equally exciting is to cook with the people who know and understand the feeling of missing that especial food that you love (as we are far from home for a while). As I mentioned, there are many events during the semester, and some of them vary according to the time of the year (for example, the Halloween Party, which only happens during the second semester of the year). Finally, I would like to mention one more which is the Prom. It is definitely a very especial moment for our BBA7 students who are graduating, and we, as students from other semesters, can also participate. When you have friends who are graduating and following their next steps towards their professional journey, it is thrilling to be able to celebrate with them. Having SGA as part of our community really does make a difference once we discover new hobbies, meet new friends, have fun, learn & grow. Therefore, I am extremely excited about this semester that has just started and all the experiences that it will bring me!

Studying at Les Roches Marbella
Good day friends and fellow students, this is my journey as student at the Les Roches International School of Hotel Management. I am twenty years old and graduated eighteen months ago in Scotland after which I took a year break. You might question my decision to study all the way in Spain when my own country has many great schools and universities I am sure. Apart from Britain I had the whole world to choose from where I could study, yet I had this desire to study somewhere abroad especially in a country where I have never been.
During my growing years in Scotland, I have been outside my country numerous times and exotic locations were included in that too. My first trip was to the Grand Canyon when I was twelve years old and it was an extraordinary experience I will carry with me always. I do intend going back there one day when I have completed my studies though. Then I also cherish my Africa experience when my whole family went on Safari in Western Africa.
It has always been a desire though to travel the world and hotel management I something I have always had a strong desire for. I always knew that I wanted to become someone who serves the public and a service, which I would be able to execute with pride. Coming back to my reason to study in Spain was quite extraordinary as I was one of the lucky ones to have received an invitation from a school friend who relocated with his parents to Spain from Scotland and invited to come for a break after school.
