Bucktommy and Sea of Light? This sounds so interesting! <3
Here’s the funny thing, there are actually two fics with this title. I suppose whichever one I manage to complete first will be the one that gets the title in the end. I’ll give you both.
The title is for a OneRepublic song, and the line goes “I'm in a sea of lights and all that I can see is you.”
1. Started right after we got the teaser for Buck and Tommy’s awkward date (before it aired, so nobody knew it was about Buck pretending they were just hanging out as friends). The general idea was that Buck was just awkward during the date, and he thought Tommy wouldn’t want to see him again after that, so he texts Tommy. That draft has 1.6k words at this point. Here’s a snippet:
Thirty-nine minutes.
Buck taps the screen of his phone and unlocks it to re-read for what may well be the millionth time his own words, in which he’s wholeheartedly apologising to Tommy, providing the most pathetic of excuses, because performance anxiety has never been something he truly needed to concern himself with, and promising to deliver next time, if it ever happens. He’s almost begging Tommy to give him another chance, preferably not out in public, because he’d hate to provide Tommy with yet another miserable experience.
If only he could have Tommy alone in the safety of his loft again, maybe he could make a better impression.
The phone dings.
Buck almost jumps in his spot. His heartbeat speeds up so much it becomes uncomfortable, but he wastes no time on finding his breath before checking the notification.
2. This idea is what I feel fits the title more. Tommy and Buck spend the two days off they have together, in Buck’s loft, during a heatwave, with a broken AC unit, so it’s all shorts and open (if any) shirts.
The idea was to have it from Buck’s POV as he looks at Tommy in the golden light of the setting sun coming in through the windows, a lot of descriptions of Tommy being absolutely gorgeous before smut ensues. I swear I had the file somewhere, but I cannot find it!
Thank you for the ask 🩷

Doing this without being tagged, because I need motivation to write, so here’s my own tag-less wip title game!
Rules: make a new post with the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous and tag as many people as you have WIPs. People send an ask with the title that most intrigues them, then you post a snippet or tell them something about it!
I’m dividing them by fandom for everyone’s sake.
9-1-1:
1. BuckTommy - Romcom
2. BuckTommy - Sea of Lights
Top Gun (1986 & 2022):
1. HangBob - College AU
2. HangBob - Deaf Bob AU
3. HangBob - FWB
4. HangBob - Ranch AU
5. IceMav - College Dorm AU
Twisters (2024):
1. TylerKate - Tornado Wrangler (Rollercoaster)
Not tagging anyone either. I stole it from someone, so go ahead and steal it as well!

Physical touch is not Buck’s love language. It’s Tommy’s.
Yes, Buck craves and thrives on physical affection, but it’s not his primary means of expressing his feelings. On the other hand, Tommy can hardly keep himself from touching Buck. His open palm rests on the small of Buck’s back whenever they walk side by side, and that’s only if they’re not already holding hands. His hands brush against Buck’s hips whenever he walks by or bracket Buck’s waist when he needs to squeeze past Buck in the tiny bathroom at the loft. Whenever they kiss, at least one of Tommy’s arms is wrapped around Buck to keep him close. Sometimes, Tommy’s other hand will rest on the back of Buck’s neck. When they make out on the couch and Buck is seated in Tommy’s lap, Tommy’s hands eagerly grip his thighs and ass. When Buck falls asleep with his head in Tommy’s lap, Tommy’s fingers rake through his hair. Tommy’s arms hold Buck when they cuddle in bed and when they sleep, Buck’s back pressed against Tommy’s chest. Tommy’s hands sneak under Buck’s shirt to distract him when he’s at the stove, cooking a late breakfast for them on a lazy Sunday morning. Tommy’s lips press to Buck’s forehead, his eyelids, his cheeks, the tip of his nose, his mouth at every opportunity, whether it’s to greet Buck or thank him, or soothe him, or cheer him up, or apologise, or to say goodbye. Tommy’s fingers press against Buck’s sore muscles after a long shift.
Buck’s love languages are quality time and acts of service. Buck makes Tommy prepare dinner with him, so they can dance around the kitchen and sing, using wooden spoons as microphones, and get each other dirty with flour and whatnot. Then, once they’re done eating and cleaning, he lovingly packs the leftovers for Tommy to take to work the next day for a mid-shift lunch. He puts Tommy’s house keys back where they belong, making sure Tommy doesn’t have to look for them when he’s in a rush. Whenever Tommy falls asleep on the couch while reading (like the old man he is), Buck puts a bookmark in before putting the book away and gently takes off Tommy’s glasses before directing Tommy to bed. After the first few, he plans nearly all of their dates (Tommy doesn’t let him have 100% but he’s close). He invites Tommy to restaurants they’ve never been to, so they can try the food. He takes Tommy to see the latest movies. He brings Tommy to family events, dinners, hangouts, game nights. He learns about all of Tommy’s interests, so they can share them.
They complete each other. For Buck, Tommy is the stability in the chaos of everyday life. For Tommy, Buck is the spark that keeps his inner fire burning.

Buck and Tommy attend a “family dinner” at Maddie and Chim’s place, where the Buckley parents are also present. Buck is tense the whole evening, but he does a decent job of concealing it. Still, Tommy knows. Every now and then, he sneaks his hand down under the table to give Buck’s thigh an encouraging squeeze, to let him know he’s got support.
For the most part, Margaret and Philip behave. Tommy engages them in a polite conversation as they all eat, talking about his life and career. They’re very much impressed by his stories from his days in the army, and they don’t make their opinions about the nature of his relationship with their son (which they don’t actively disapprove of but find rather strange) known.
Everything seems fine but every now and then, Margaret will make a rather backhanded mean-spirited comment about Buck, as if reminding Tommy that her son is prone to hurting himself and thus attention-seeking, that he has a tendency to overthink things and panic about the smallest of issues, or that he’s generally a lot to put up with.
Several times, Tommy corrects her gently and diverts her attention by adjusting the topic of their conversation, until he’s had it with her rudeness when she once again points out one of Buck’s flaws.
Tommy pauses, placing his knife and fork down, and looks at her with poorly masked disgust.
“I love him anyway,” he says and turns his attention back to the remaining food on his plate, not even noticing the effect he’s had on everyone present, because he used the exact words Buck had once directed at his parents. He barely realises that he’s just confessed his love for Evan.
Once they’re back home, having spent most of the drive in comfortable silence, with Tommy’s hand resting on Buck’s thigh and Buck’s own hand covering it, Tommy notices the glassy look in Buck’s eyes. Once he points it out, asking what’s wrong, Buck laughs happily through the tears and proceeds to explain the sheer impossibility of the situation happening exactly as it did.
They spend the night together and even though Buck isn’t ready to say the L-word out loud just yet, he makes sure that Tommy knows how he feels nonetheless.
