The Gray Ghost lives!

During August 2013, I lived in Park City, Utah and worked as an onset/still photographer for a feature film called IN SEARCHING. There was 30 days of shooting, mostly night shoots. I met many amazing individuals got to watch the sunset/sunrise and moonrise/moonset almost everything, and had an absolute blast. Here are some behind the scenes photos. The film is going to post-production right now and will be submitted to Sundance as well as other film festivals. Watch out for it!

Heart-beats go on adventures in the great outdoors of Utah! Our last weekend was spent at the Summit County Rodeo and then a hike/exploring the caves at Timpanogos Cave National Monument. We make movies, we explore, we go #INSEARCHING

Last night marks about 1/3 of the way through the production of IN SEARCHING. Although a big milestone, the draw to day 10 was our big call for extras. From roughly 8PM until 2AM close to 50 extras came all the way out to Herber, Utah with their cowboy boots and hats blazin! With a few simple words and instructions from our Director of Photography Dan Finlayson, our great extras piled into a 100 year old barn and rocked the shoot. Thank you for everyone who came out! And thank you to our cast and crew who continue to impress day in and day out.

Week two barn scenes are underway. Each and every night IN SEARCHING has its amazing crew working to make these great locations and great cast look and appear as best they can. Gotta love these guys.

Day 6 + 7

Day 6 and Day 7 were fantastic. Yesterday we had rabbits and goats. Today, we had intensely dramatic shed stuff. We have totally hit our stride - with each department firing on all cylinders. Heart-Beat Productions has succeeded with amazing efforts from Greg Tango, Mike Sampson, Eric Seltenrich, Evan Wood (and more). Watching you guys prepare for each shot is inspiring. You’re making each day really count. I’m loving all our footage at the Howe Barn.

DAY 3 of IN SEARCHING

Spent the night on a roof with a metric ton of good people. Watched Aley Underwood and Jake Borelli do take-after-take of magic. Went a little long, but it was only Day 3 - and we’re finding our groove, big time. I’m pumped for the Heart-Beat Productions team to make our day tonight. Matt Landsman doesn’t even need to worry.

DAY 2 by Director J.L. Topkis

Completed the most elaborate lighting setup in Heart-Beat Productions history with a 53-second moving dialogue master shot. Loved spending the day off Main St. Park City, Utah. Marveled at our incredible G&E department. Every department. With our first dialogue scene out of the way, and some montage-y bits, we close the book on Day 2 of ‪IN SEARCHING.

We are no longer rehearsing. IN SEARCHING has officially began production. With a few days of shooting under our belts, the pieces are beginning to fall into place, and we are beginning to see a great transformation from script, to prep, to film.

DAY 1

Watched Jake Borelli get his groove on. Stole a shot with Dan Finlayson without Marc Van Osdale or Ryan T. Perry noticing (almost). Hugged Julie Abubo. Appologized for the Aley Underwood oversight. Thanked Jacob Grodnik for reading lines off camera in a dark room. Finished the first shoot for IN SEARCHING. Heart-Beat Productions sleeps as the sun rises.

5 years ago a fellow Heart-Beat lost his life. Chris Yeates was an amazing guy - and we all wish he were here today. After his death, our team made CHANNELED - a film about dealing with grief and finding catharsis. The premiere at the Eccles Center was an amazing event. Afterward, we started the Chris Yeates Memorial Scholarship - which helped students from Park City High School attend film school. Today, we're sharing this film with you. It was our tribute to Yeates. It's long and clunky, but we hope each of our films live up to the heart on display here.
