Lyft - Cost Breakdown
As promised, here is the breakdown of one of the rides that we took. I was lucky to have signed up during a convention which gave me $20 in promotional credits in the form of 10 rides for $2 off each. You can see this reflected here. Sign up using my link and you can get up to $20 in Lyft Credit!
Tumblr media
At first, we were never charged the “Prime Time + 100%” but soon learned that this is during the time where there are less drivers so they charge a hefty premium. There is the Lyft Line Discount which basically splits the cost into the number of groups that you pick up. This was basically always 2 since my group had 2 people and we usually just picked up 1 more person. If you are by yourself, there is no charge for extra passenger, but if you are with a friend, then it is a dollar extra. The maximum allowed per group for Lyft Line is 2 so if you had 3 friends then you would have to choose the regular Lyft option.
Overall, I really enjoyed using Lyft. I didn’t have to worry about paying for gas, looking up directions or finding parking. For our 5 day and 5 night trip, we ended up spending $41.37 for all the trips going in and out of the city and South Beach and to our Airbnb’s. Without my discount, it would have been $61.37 USD for the both of us. I did do a quick check for car rentals. It would have been at least $100 USD not including gas or parking so I would recommend using Lyft for a short trip in Miami!

Lyft vs Uber - Miami
When ride sharing apps started to become popular, I always wondered what the experience of using these apps would be like. Lyft and Uber are both companies that offer this service with deep discounts for first time riders and also big bonuses for drivers.
My first experience was taking Uber in Minnesota and it really wasn’t great. We were picked up by a nice white Cadillac and it was the first time our driver (60+ Grandma) picked a passenger up. We were stuck in a university village for about 15 minutes until we noticed and figured out she was on “Walking Mode” on Google maps and kept trying to cross a footpath!
Tumblr media
I was lucky enough to sit with 52 yo Soledad in a Lyft during my recent Miami trip and asked her a couple questions to provide perspective not only on the RIDER side but also on the DRIVER side. To give some context, many drivers drive for both Uber and Lyft to make a living but from my observations Lyft is better and cheaper and this is why! There is the “UberPool’ option or “Lyft Line” options which are both essentially carpooling services where you can pick up and drop off passengers along the way to help reduce the cost. This is the main service I used on my trip.
- With Uber you have no choice but to be a “bus” and to keep picking up and drop off passengers because for each time you decline, you lose a point. Based on how many points you are docked, Uber will ban your account. One ride that normally takes 30 minutes took 1 hour and 10 minutes because she picked up and dropped off a whopping 10 people! She mentioned a Spanish passenger that was getting off work and was the first and last one to get dropped off due to this and he pretty well fell asleep in her car!
- With Lyft I have never had more than 2 parties in the car meaning that there is comfortable seating (usually it was 2 groups of 2 + 1 making 3 people). This was great because we usually were either the first or last to get dropped off and we got to our destination quick!
- She also mentioned that you are basically making the same amount, but it is more work to drive for Uber than Lyft. With Uber, she had to constantly drive and take requests back to back to make the same amount as with Lyft when she could take her time.
Overall, having a glance at her dashboard, it looked like she made $125 so far in 1 day for 17 rides. She also mentioned that with Lyft, you can get bonus during peak hours (when there are less drivers) as well as weekly bonus if you do 60 rides. Uber is working them to death!
See next post for a cost breakdown of a ride!

The Mastery Journal
I’d followed JLD (John Lee Dumas) for the last year, religiously listening to his podcast but not taking action. Today, from his email campaign.....
Tumblr media
And I got linked to his live chat on Facebook and for some reason was inspired to get THE MASTERY JOURNAL from his Kickstarter. I’m not sure if it was because I was pressed for time or that I loved the exclusivity aspect of it. The scarcity marketing tactic worked on me! There were 2 hours left in the Kickstarter and I just had to pull out my cc and click buy. After checking out, I got an email from Kickstarter and just 3 hours later, I recieved my very own digital copy that was a fillable PDF. I got the Combo Digital Pack:
RewardTHE COMBO DIGITAL PACK + AUDIOBOOKS ($45)THE COMBO DIGITAL PACK INCLUDES:The 100-DAY fillable PDF of The Mastery Journal AND The Freedom Journal.PLUS access to our private Facebook community for ongoing support and accountability.PLUS the Kindle and ePub version of both Journals.PLUS The Mastery and Freedom Journal AUDIOBOOK, narrated by JLD!
I had wanted to get THE FREEDOM JOURNAL for a while so this was the perfect opportunity for me to get the full package in digital format. (I debated for a long time because I find that physical journals don’t work for me and I am too shy to write in real books as I like to keep them in perfect condition.)
I am so stoked because I have created my morning routine and am excited to get started tomorrow and have a great day! Also - I’m learning about the power of having systems because I am SURE that JLD had several systems working for him in the background to run this successful campaign (esp starting with the email straight to my clicking “BUY”.)
Inspired and On FIRE!

Using Unbounce
I created my own landing page! I had started this previously when I was interested in making my own website and decided to finally tweek it up a bit since I had so many photos from my vacation. Viola! Here it is - http://unbouncepages.com/happylamby/
My experience: - Easy to navigate after a bit of initial self-training- Limited to the templates and requires a LOT of tweeking if you want it to work properly on both mobile and website- Surprisingly easy to get it up and running in a couple of hours!

Philippine Airline Pt 2
Tumblr media
I am going to keep this brief because my last post was lost since my laptop lost battery! My brother in law’s sister was actually on the same flight and we got to chat after we landed during our layover and she gave us some great tips to choose the PHILIPPINE meal instead of the WESTERN one!!! You will see how this made a HUGE difference. She got her flight for $720 with a 5 hour layover on the way back HKG > PHP > YVR and ours was $740 with a 7 hour layover there and 2 hour back.
After landing in PHP we did not know what to expect but we actually didn’t have to fill out the forms except for health check. We were directed to the transit desk and told them we had no plans to leave the airport. It was mentioned that we would get breakfast vouchers and we were directed to a transit lounge that resembled an old dim-lit office with huge one-seater lounge chairs, a hot/cold water dispenser, sleeping rooms, plenty of blankets and a TV fully complete with a (pretty grimy) shower and male/female washrooms. Each chair had two plugs right beside the seat (perfect for your laptop and mobile) and FREE WIFI!
After spending 2 hours in the lounge we got pretty bored since we arrived 1 hour early (6:30 - 8:30AM) and we already slept on the plane. I decided to check out if our breakfast vouchers were ready and we go a whopping $600 PHP to spend on food at Cafe France! (This is about $20 CAD but buys a lot of food since food is cheap at PHP.) We had to use up the amount in one go and we were able to get 2 sandwiches, a coffee bun, a chocolate croissant and a bottle of water! We very slowly ate this to wait up to the flight.
Tumblr media
After an excruciating 8 hours and much TV time browsing the internet and a combination of walking and sitting around, it was finally time for our flight. Our second flight food was amazing! There was no entertainment system so make sure to download the MYPAL app on your device if you want to use their entertainment. The flight was much shorter so much easier to bear! This time around we got the pork & rice which had an awesome apple pie.

Philippine Airlines
Saw some cheap flights via Philippine Airlines and wondering what the experience is like? Look no further, here you go.....
I’m taking Phillipine Airlines to Hong Kong from YVR and currently in the airport in Manila. This is on my experience in the airline. Honestly, I had no expectations because I got this flight for $768 last minute including taxes off of Expedia.ca and it was the cheapest flight. I have a 7 hour layover which explains why I have time to blog and 2 hour layover for on the way back.
Our flight was at 1:25AM so I checked in the night before (painfully staying up until 1:25AM the night before so that I could attempt to get seats next to my awesome travel buddy my brother. I was unable to check in online on mobile so had to get out of bed and turn my laptop on to check in. By the time I got this done, I only had one choice left for the last two seats that were together - the very last row. I didn’t think much of it and went ot work the next day.
When we arrived at the airport it was AWESOME that we did online check in because there is an expedited line and we did not have to wait long to check our bag - first checked bag FREE. We had no problem easy peasy and went through security. On the flight, shortly after we took off we had our first dinner meal. Honestly I was so glad that I had a meal at 6pm and another snack at 9pm because the food tasted like cardboard. I was pretty excited when I opened it because it was seafood pasta with brocoli and carrots, but I took one bite and knew that it would not be edible. I opted not to eat it.
I slept for a bit and watched The Huntsman on the My Pal entertainment system which was better than I expected. There was a remote control that was removable and it was easy to use and had no lag in navigating the menu to select movies. The movies were a bit outdated but still had classic blockbuster movies that you probably have not had time to watch yet. Later though I found out my brother had a faulty system that kept restarting so I let him watch off my screen to let him finish his movie that he spent almost 4 hours watching since he had to keep selecting and fast forwarding to his movie painfully every time it reset.
Next came the grilled cheese sandwhich when I was alseep. I’m not sure if it was because I was so hungry, but even though it wasn’t hot and melty - cold since I woke up much later to eat it - I managed to stomach it down.
I also forgot to mention, even though our seats were near the washroom, there more space in the back to lean back and relax. The only big cavaet was how COLD it was! I have a hoodie on and it was so cold that I also requested two blankets for my legs (my generous bro gave me his so I could double up) and I also had my tri-climate Northface to cover up my top body because it was so bloody cold!!!
Lastly, came the breakfast about 2 hours before landing. It was the only edible meal that I could handle. There was boiled turkey sausage with a bit of beans and scrambled eggs (not sure if it was real eggs). With tater tots (they were cold). There is also no Coca Cola on this flight, only Pepsi.
Overall, other than it being super cold and the food being pretty terrible, for a budget airline, we landed 1 hour ahead of schedule and now I’m in the transit area which has a shower, TV, free Wifi, sleeping area and lots of plugs for you to do whatever you please so I am ok!
More updates later....
