Lyft - Cost Breakdown
As promised, here is the breakdown of one of the rides that we took. I was lucky to have signed up during a convention which gave me $20 in promotional credits in the form of 10 rides for $2 off each. You can see this reflected here. Sign up using my link and you can get up to $20 in Lyft Credit!
At first, we were never charged the “Prime Time + 100%” but soon learned that this is during the time where there are less drivers so they charge a hefty premium. There is the Lyft Line Discount which basically splits the cost into the number of groups that you pick up. This was basically always 2 since my group had 2 people and we usually just picked up 1 more person. If you are by yourself, there is no charge for extra passenger, but if you are with a friend, then it is a dollar extra. The maximum allowed per group for Lyft Line is 2 so if you had 3 friends then you would have to choose the regular Lyft option.
Overall, I really enjoyed using Lyft. I didn’t have to worry about paying for gas, looking up directions or finding parking. For our 5 day and 5 night trip, we ended up spending $41.37 for all the trips going in and out of the city and South Beach and to our Airbnb’s. Without my discount, it would have been $61.37 USD for the both of us. I did do a quick check for car rentals. It would have been at least $100 USD not including gas or parking so I would recommend using Lyft for a short trip in Miami!
