RAINES
[fap_track id="2183" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Osca, Amber Run, New City Kings
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Instagram     Soundcloud Coming to us from Liverpool, Mike Nelson (RAINES) has made a big splash in the indie scene with his track Ghosts. He's been steadily gaining traction on Hype Machine and has been compared to greats like Chris Martin from Coldplay! Ghosts has already hit 80,000 plays on soundcloud just two weeks after being released. If that doesn't tell you he's something special, I'm pretty sure a brick on the head with a "Listen to his music" attached to it might. Look out!
"Ghosts is really important to me, it’s about my dreams and my nightmares. It’s about having someone to fight the world with. It’s about love and loss, but also the idea that these feelings don’t stop just because a relationship does." - Mike Nelson
Expect more music to be released soon, but for now, follow my lead and go to RAINES' website and let his single reign over your earbuds!

WE CAME FROM WOLVES
[fap_track id="2176" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: YØUTH, High and Mighty Low, Sons & Lovers
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Bandcamp Out of Glasgow & Perth, Scotland, We Came From Wolves (WCFW) brings a unique mix of early 2000s rock with synth-like melodies. They describe their music as jaggy rock/bastard pop. Coming off attention from their 2014 Paradise Place EP, WCFW plan to release a debut album in a couple of months. The self titled album is expected to be a meaningful experience into one's life choices as the band members themselves start to stabilize from the high speed reactions of their youth. I've given their previous two EPs a thorough listen and they were solid rock albums with true headbangery. However, their newest single, Am I Useful makes me feel something more while still delivering the rebellious rock anthem that gives my life meaning. They're teasing us with this song and the album drop anticipation is killing me! Go on, give them a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT_8Lo3Cs58&t=34

REGINA ZAREMBA
[fap_track id="2167" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Orla Gartland, Gabrielle Aplin, Celia Pavey
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Youtube A wonderful surprise opener at the Orla Gartland show last night was Regina Zaremba. This New Yorker echoed her voice powerfully through Drake's infamous underground. There's something special about hearing a live performance and having the lyrics etched into your mind. Listening to Regina's Eclipse EP is like travelling back to last night watching her perform. She hit those high notes wonderfully live and you just can't get the raw experience listening to the track digitally unfortunately. Regina's tunes are incredibly passionate and I can't help but be moved listening to Eclipse (it's on repeat). She's got a wide variety of covers on her YouTube channel that I highly recommend you check out. Speaking of covers... she played Creep by Radiohead for the first time last night and it was majestic! Her very first cover was World Spins Madly On by The Weepies back in highschool and she learned it without even owning a guitar! She learned the finger pattern watching people play it and the very moment she got her first guitar, she knew how to play it! A graduate of Cornell, Regina kept music as a hobby while studying, but now is on the path of making her dreams come true, one show at a time. Make sure to catch her in Southern California if you happen to be around those parts in a couple of weeks. Also, she promised us more songs so keep you eyes and ears glued to her social media for updates! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PghAUbILL6Y

THE HOMELESS GOSPEL CHOIR
[fap_track id="2153" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Motion City Soundtrack, Andrew McMahon, July Talk
Website      Facebook     Twitter     Bandcamp Derek Zanetti aka The Homeless Gospel Choir comes out of the PenguinNation (or SteelerNation if you're into football), Pittsburgh. He proclaims that all his songs are protest songs and quite frankly, I can agree. You can feel the raw emotion in the lyrics he articulately inserts into his steady rhythms. Charged with momentum to tear down greed, privilege, complacency, and inner demons, Zanetti's latest album (I Used To Be So Young) is the perfect collection of meaningful music. They are catchy and motivate one to sing along. So what are you waiting for? Join The Homeless Gospel Choir in treading the lines of punk, folk, chill, and rock while speaking out against injustice. My personal favourites off the album would be When The War Is Over and Don't Give up. Sidenote: I Used To Be So Young was produced by Chris#2 from Anti-Flag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcFplVelDWY

FOREIGN FIGURES
[fap_track id="2143" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: The Griswolds, American Authors, The Notionaries
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Instagram     Bandcamp I came across Foreign Figures from a DevinSuperTramp video and I'm so glad I did. Out of the city of Orem in Utah, these guys can make you want to get up and move. They're a five piece band that fuses old school rock anthems with new age drum overflow. They even throw a bit of R&B into the mix at times. Can I also say that they have the most creative Twitter handle ever? 4infigures. It took me a couple of seconds to get that. There's a beautiful cover of Coldplay's Sky Full of Stars floating about soundcloud by the band and it really shows the amazing capabilities of these guys. Their Come Alive EP is currently tracked as a 3 piece that will be released in the near future (check their website). In the meantime, checkout their Ocean EP that was released last October on their bandcamp. Two EPs in half a year? That's something special. They've just hit their one year mark as a band and we hope them many many more years! Sidenote: They've released their video for their hit single Come Alive in 4k just yesterday and it's epic! A must watch. Where can you find it? Right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1it13ZYGax0

Facebook     Twitter Betty's Club is hitting nearly two years as a band. They're a four piece from Glasgow that is heavily influenced from early millennial rock bands. They currently have two songs released that take me back about a decade. With steady drums and vocals that symbolize an anthem chant, it's hard not to get hooked. They plan to release two completely new singles within the next few weeks so keep your eyes on their social media to be the first to listen to some Scottish magic!

Sounds like: Air Dubai, Jep Roadie, Kendrick Lamar
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Soundcloud Out of Boston, Latrell James is an MC/producer that has a flow with his words that gets you hooked to the beat. He gained attention in 2012 with his project Lemonade Stand and like a kid selling fresh iced tea on the corner for a quarter, Latrell started from humble beginnings. His lyrics are stories that gives the listener a view into his life like they were looking through a pensive. He's releasing a full length this year (Twelve) and so far it's been getting nothing but good reviews. He's setting bar so high that Shaq can limbo standing up. AUSTIN KOLBE
[fap_track id="2119" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Jaymes Young, Andrew McMahon, Mat Kearney
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Instagram     YouTube Don't let his innocent face trick you, Austin Kolbe is a seductive devil with a voice to die for. His latest single, Lips, really hits the spot as he subtly asks you to caress his neck with endless kisses. This 20 year old singer/songwriter/musician has picked things up on his own from a pretty young age. He can play a wide array of instruments and did I mention his voice?
"When I finally got to record it with live musicians, it was like having the best sex of my life." - Austin Kolbe
Need I say more? Working with Eric Lilavois on this single for London Tone's 52x52 launch campaign, Austin is on the next step of his musical career. There are whispers of a full length album in the works!
Sidenote: You can find another provocative funk masterpiece, Sex Symbol, on Austin's Youtube Channel

Sounds like: The Head and the Heart, Lord Huron, Blind Pilot
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Soundcloud     iTunes When it comes to creating music, Jay Woodward is somewhat of an expert. With an ability to develop soothing melodies and engineer them to perfection, Jay visualizes that in his debut album, Letters We Told. Living in California, Woodward is in a competitive market to share his music, but has found some success. His album was released in late 2013 and contains 9 tracks that are reminiscent of decades earlier. Pick this up if you're dig cold days sitting watching the rain come down across the window frame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2K0wA-wEFUI

SUSY SUN
[fap_track id="2100" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Basia Bulat, Jetta, Cara Salimando
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Instagram     YouTube Susy Sun comes to us from the not always sunny Seattle. She's a classically trained pianist and also writes her own songs! Holding both Native American and Swedish roots, teaching in London, working on a farming in Greece, and studying Spanish in Spain, you can tell that Susy is pretty well versed when it comes to the world. That reflects in her music. Her debut album (Wanderlust) released in 2013 is an upbeat, sing-along-able 6 piece that makes you happy even when she sings about not so happy situations. Each song is unique in rhythm and I can't think of a single one I don't like. There's even an instrumental Piano Impromptu in the middle for those all about those keys. Grey Skies is a heavy track that reminds me of the absolute atmosphere created by Coldplay. Recently covering The Kooks' newest single Bad Habit, Susy shows us yet again that she isn't isolated to a single genre. Her latest single, That's Just Life, created for London Tone Music, was created with the help of a great pool of people including Eric Lilavois. It's an absolutely beautiful track that I can't get enough of. The piano dances perfectly with the lyrics in an artistic duet. Here's the video for the NPR Tiny Desk Contest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJCQkIW4xcc

RAIHANNA ESTRADA
[fap_track id="2083" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"] Sounds like: Kira Isabella, Echo Nebraska, Elenowen Website     Facebook     Twitter     Instagram     YouTube     Soundcloud     Bandcamp Raihanna Estrada comes to us from Lake Berryessa, California and has been singing country since around 11. By the time she was 13, Raihanna was already writing her own music and learning to sing by mimicking artists. She's been following her musical dreams, attending the Vocal Program at Musicians Institute in LA and releasing two EPs. Her second EP (Take Me Back) was released last October and you can find it on her bandcamp. Around the same time, Rihanna made the leap to the magical music city that Gegsy listeners are all too familiar with, Nashville. So as she's gaining attention in Nashville, we'd like to share her music with music lovers north of the border. Take Me Back is a 5 track compilation that is full of long nights in the back of a pickup truck with an upbeat tempo. You'll notice your foot shake back and forth without control. Raihanna flirts with the line between country and pop wonderfully. The album ends off with Summer For Lovers and honestly, it leaves me wanting more. Why isn't this girl more famous? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iz7EKnxdIXo

THE NOTIONARIES
[fap_track id="2075" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: American Authors, Imagine dragons, Young Rising Sons
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Instagram     Soundcloud These guys from the American midwest are good. No, they're great! They've only been a band for about 6 months and the two singles they released are highly addictive. Based in Oklahoma City, they bring a slight American Authors vibe, but can play a totally different rhythm as seen in their track Bandit. They consider their music the kind that illuminates your day, reminding you of summer and I can definitely see why. Music can be used to really cheer people up and as I sit in my room looking out at the great Canadian winter, their music makes me want to get out of bed and go tobogganing (also known as go and be a kid for you snowless people). With the solid combination of guitars, drums and synth, matched with body-moving vocals, I say The Notionaries are a band to watch. Support them and their music because when it comes down to it, its us fans that help our favourite bands' dreams come true! Can't wait for an album from theres guys. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9o4tIPGGoEM&feature=youtu.be

COMPLICATED ANIMALS
[fap_track id="2066" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Salt Petal, Ambre McLean, Maga Bo (feat. Tamy)
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Instagram     iTunes Brazilian Monica da Silva and American Chad Alger teamed up to bring us calm, happy music based on their own separate influences. These two have been working together for a few years and you can notice it in the way they flawlessly execute their songs. They're actually on the verge of their first album release (as Complicated Animals)! In This Game is a 6 song EP that drops Tuesday, February 10th, 2015 and we were lucky enough to get our hands on it ahead of time to give it a review. It contains a mix of Portuguese and English tracks which only further entices my World Music itch. So I'll hold back no more. Here's my review of their upcoming album. In This Game EP album review:
Roadmap: A happy-go-lucky tune that brings a smile to my face. Best selection for a starter!
O Que Passou: Slow dancing miracle. With the strings plucked of my heart and with a steady chorus, I just want to raise my hands in the air and wave them back and forth. Breezy music at it's finest.
Phoenix: Their first released single and you can see why. This single takes me back to the early 2000s with the talk-vocals. Very Natasha Benningfield-ish with a modern twist.
Bees Take To Honey: Simple, happy and it's all about the little things. This is the perfect song to an awkward indie flick. Reminds me of something I'd hear from She & Him mixed with a folky air
Drive Around in Cars: I have a theory that every album in the world has a tumblr worthy song. A song that can be shared and reblogged by the hundreds because it touches an emotional chord within the listener. Most active tumblr users know that this is never the hit single, but rather a song that you can feel the artists' raw feelings. Drive around in Cars is just that. No further words are necessary.
Sempre Aqui: To end out the album, you are provided with a song so soothing, it takes you away from all the troubles of your daily life. Loved the album and song this song is the cherry on top!
You can preorder the album on their iTunes right now so if you dig Indie Nova (Indie Pop + Bossa Nova) go immediately and get your hands on this fine piece of work! Sidenote: They were featured in the 2014 FIFA World Cup for the song That's Not the Way from the Brasilissima album.

SALT PETAL
[fap_track id="2059" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Habibi, Panama Wedding, MAUSI
So how many members are in Salt Petal? That's still inconclusive, but according to their Facebook, at least 8. This Los Angeles band brings out the diversity of the city, fusing a variety of South American influences with modern, North American indie music. Getting spots on SXSW, LA Times' Festival of Books and Make Music Pasadena they're turning heads back and forth. With NPR and BBC picking up their music, you can trust they have a unique beat that everyone agrees with. Their album Sea Monster was released in early 2013 and contains 13 tracks that are very different from each other, yet following the same overarching rhythm. I might not understand all the words in every song, but that doesn't discourage me from listening. The lead vocals (Autumn Harrison) changes her language mid song without any hesitation. The use of unconventional instruments are a plus and really paint an image from music that I've never seen before. Stay Awhile, Pico, and Cumbia de Billinghurst are my personal favourites off the album, but that doesn't mean you can skip over the rest. Sea Monster is worth picking up to expand your world music horizons! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFQW63BH41Y

HURRICANE LOVE
[fap_track id="2045" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: Walk Off the Earth, First Rate People, Dear Rouge
Website     Facebook     Twitter     Youtube    iTunes Sweden can produce the most incredible artists and Hurricane Love out of Malmö are a testament to that. The band comprises of six incredibly talented musicians with strong female and male vocals. The whole band gets in on the action when it comes to background vocals and that adds to the pull factor for their fans; you can't help but sing along. They've been making music together for at least four years and have gained some attention on YouTube from their acoustic renditions two years ago. Their latest single (Nowhere To Go) was released a couple of months ago and it is breathtaking, highlighting on the talents on every member of the group. Hurricane Love blew me away with Nowhere to To Go and the music video is beautiful. They deserve much more love and attention. What are you waiting for? HIGH AND MIGHTY LOW
[fap_track id="2040" layout="interactive-image" enqueue="no" auto_enqueue="no"]
Sounds like: The Crossing, The Offspring, Wolfmother
Website     iTunes     Facebook     Twitter     Soundcloud With raspy vocals that make me nostalgic of The Offspring, High and Mighty Low (HML) comes to us from Los Angeles and are officially a pretty new band. They dropped their first full length album (Bones) a week ago and it is as solid as albums get. This beaut is a true rock anthem that is full of guitar solos and epic drumming. Despite the heavy stuff, HML sneak in a couple slower tracks like The Only One and Taken that fall in the middle of the album. Then the tracks slowly pick up and then you get hit with a blast from the past when rock culture existed through those online RPGs (anyone else remember gaming MVs? ...kay just me then). What I'm trying to say is I remember listening to Linkin Park while watching gaming videos and I feel HML is the perfect band to fit that demographic, but are not exclusive to that. These guys deserve some serious attention so head over to their website and check out their music (they have a couple free tracks out and also have the whole album on iTunes). Finishing off the album with Half the Time, a slow, relatable rock tune that has a nice audience engaging part (na na na naaaa), I feel this is one of those bands you just have to see live. Kudos! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U19JoPPIfEc
