GOD the way tbosas can reframe everything snow did in the original trilogy is genuinely genius and this is such an amazing take aughhh

like of course snow wasn't going to kill peeta, because that would only martyr him. of COURSE the end goal was for him to reunite with katniss eventually, why else would they bother doing all the hijacking? but the idea that snow is still trying to play the games that he never really escaped from, still trying to PROVE to himself and all of panem that even the paragons of the games are still humans who will kill for the "selfish" desire to survive?? that he was trying to get her to feel that rush of paranoia that he instilled in peeta, the same kind that killed any ounce of love (or even just "like") snow may have had for lucy gray??? that even if snow didn't consciously understand fully the origins of his motives, he still had that goal of knocking down the perfect couple who threatened his rule and the very core of his understanding of the world, that fear will destroy empathy every time????

and katniss proved him wrong anyways by forcing him to acknowledge that he didn't know jack shit. not about her love for peeta and not about humanity. get fucked old man lmao

He wanted Katniss to kill Peeta.

Peeta would attempt it, certainly, but a private reunion would be unlikely. Soldiers and doctors would be around and could help Katniss, which is what happened. Death is a possibility, but not guaranteed.

This reunion was meant to be a scarf with a snake underneath, an attempt to kill a lover.

And Snow expected that, stripped of the love that protected Katniss and with Peeta viewing her as a mutt, she would fire bullets back at him, lost in her hatred and her desperate need to survive. He would turn her into him.
