This could be a rant and not anything about my fave series but i DON'T get the thinking of an anime or any adaptation making changes to an existing story as a way to make "what ifs" happen as entirely good. If they have to write fillers, sure (and I've seen ones that are not so nice still even as just fillers) but changes to scenes that actually happened in the og material?? Like, stories and its scenes were written in a certain way FOR A REASON. Or so I try to believe.
Authors could have written their pieces just to earn money but i always try to believe first that they wrote it to give some sort of message to whoever reads it. And so the scenes have meanings. And changing these things drastically just for the adaptation cast to give their own interpretation is borderline disrespectful to me. And its especially painful when their own interpretation ruins a character's writing, much so makes it so fricking different that the watchers and readers see them as two different characters. Adding unnecessary scenes that highlights a flaw that shouldn't be there. Or making them say things that's opposite of what they meant from the original material. And due to that, the character is getting unreasonable hate. It's depressing. Even more than characters, sometimes, the point of the story lol ahem ahem like in ORV LA wherein KDJ hates TWSA and wants to save the world hahahah ALLEGEDLY
If the adaptation has this strong desire to change majority in the story, why can't they go original then. For anime, i think they did good with Zenshu (that's anime that didn't have like a manga or LN). I didn't watch the full thing, but i saw clips everywhere and it seems nice.
I know that sometimes the anime is made to just promote the manga. And cutting off some scenes is a way to make people to go and read the manga. However, some changes are just not it. Especially most people would read only where the anime ended. So most people will still not see the inconsistenties because they would skip it anyways 🙃 that's not bad cuz it saves time but i just feel bad for any character ruined for the sake of "own interpretation".
Skipping some scenes is not so bad, i understand adaptations, esp anime have time constraints so they have to give up some scenes that don't matter much. But sometimes, their choices on scenes to keep are a bit questionable imo. Well, in my taste lol.
For example, in Assassination Classroom when they were playing Cops and Robbers. In the anime, Koro-sensei was in complete defense. And the kids won solely because the cops kept getting disadvantaged because robbers kept getting freed and eventually time ran out while showing Karasuma-sensei still trying to chase some students.
In the manga tho, there's a rule that in the last 1 minute (which is still a lot, if anime gonna make changes, change this to like 10 seconds), Koro-sensei will switch to being the chaser. Which adds a reasonable (for me) challenge because the kids are indeed still up against a supercreature. And the kids still won in the manga because Nagisa, Sugino, and Karma jumped into the pool when that time frame happened and since Koro-sensei can't get in, and after 1 minute and they weren't caught.

This would sound petty but skipping scenes like this kinda dowgrades the characters' skill development and would give way to people saying the skill gap is so sudden when something major event after it happens. But it wasnt sudden. Unfortunately, I'm someone who gets upset when characters (and even the author, not anime/adap director) are being berated for something like that. For having a rush story or something.
Both endings are ok ngl but the anime just felt a bit "no strategy" energy for me. What they did to escape jail were like bare minimum for the amount of training/observation/skills they already have haha However, the thing with the pool was really nice showcase of how much they've grown, they saw another loophole they can make use of, like they did with Home Ec test but this time, assassination on-field related. I just thought there was no need to skip the last minute rule tbh. They were still able to show Karasuma-sensei chasing them in the end, and that could be Koro-sensei staring at the pool instead. There's already a ton of chase scenes skipped anyway. But oh well, maybe it's a budget issue so they kept it simple.
Another example, but this time, it made me drop the series completely and it was in Tensura. LN is the most og material i think or maybe webnovel, im not sure the diff but i refer to the manga more. So maybe my thoughts in this does not have much ground.
During the time when Rimuru held an event to introduce himself to the other nations, there's a LOT of conversations and meetings (which fans hate for some reason lmao) i was looking forward to, to get talked about when it gets animated. But guess what, they got skipped ahahaha especially the whole scene that led Rimuru to give his sword to Gobta's ex-rival. But added (or chose, cuz it wasn't in the manga but maybe LN has it) the harem talk ahahaha the conversations they skipped could have cleared up any confusion why the Luminas gang and Tempest gang suddenly got buddy buddy...cuz it wasnt that sudden. They laid out their grievances, ESPECIALLY SHION. but yeah. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks those are more important than harem talk
Then again, for Tensura, manga is not the original material. So they could have just cut off scenes. Especially people are complaining about too much meetings, too much talks. Im sorry but why are people so pro violence. But anyways. What's made is already made hahaha
It's probably just me, but i look forward to anime adaptations or LA to see manga characters moving or feel even more alive rather than to see a different story. They could enhance some scenes but make sure the point is still there. Like in Kimetsu no Yaiba during training arc. Some training scenes were extended. And that's fine. I just want to see them move and hear them voiced. And possible have clarity on some action scenes i couldn't make out of in the manga due to my inability to decipher some artstyles sometimes.

Ngl true. I initially thought you get this when Road uses that power on someone and the only reason it did not appear on Gen. Yeegar (?) was because the details of the attack on him was anime filler. But When she did it with Lenalee (Rewinding Town), no mark appeared either (she mentioned about dreaming about the past but can't remember probably due to Time Record)

lavi was born with a mark in his right eye which is why he’s destined to be the next bookman. what if his mask is connected to the mark he had in his fight with road? road’s dream is connected to her inner self, for example she can become a doll because her inner self wants it, but she can’t become something that her inner self doesn’t want. this also applies to others. road’s dream couldn’t make a mark appear on lavi’s body, make him strong, or make him some kind of misanthrope, if it isn’t connected to lavi’s inner self. also one of the reasons why kanda hates lavi is because he hates the fact that lavi fakes his strength, and he even said that if lavi ever gets serious when they fight he might be the one who loses instead. when lavi fought with allen he was stronger than he usually is. so i think lavi’s mark, his strength, etc, is just one of the things he “masks” and has never shown to others. this is what road meant when she said that “this is lavi’s real”.

Some silly and very disorganized thoughts at 2am:
[This is HEAD CANON at best again lol I can't reach most of dgm official content to be able to have theories]
I was listening to a playlist of DGM OSTs (including BGMs and in-series(?) songs) when Togaochi theme played and i got reminded of my messy thoughts from a while back:
The whole idea is probably me being overdramatic or trying to be different but it just hit me and it wont leave me alone until i shared it xksjdsjcinfg
Apo, Noah (like the ones inside the current bodies) and even Togaochi (including or excluding the big limbless part) look alike each other. Which got me thinking that there's more to turning into a fallen than just betraying innocence-> innocence going full tantrum for being betrayed. That maybe it has something to do with the amount of despair or life force that was consumed, like it got full already, it consumed enough to try and step up its game lol...cuz innocence and its host started gaining a form that's similar to one of higher level of lifeform (well, to their kind at least...?) like Apo (independent innocence) and the Noah. Like how the akuma looks more human as they level up.
It's like one final blow on Suman's despair. He was separated from his family, he almost died, he pleaded the enemy to let him live, he helped the enemy to live, and finally, the guilt of being the reason a lot of members of the order dying. (Damn his innocence was having a feast lol)
After the revelation of the context of the helix and innocence as something that feeds off something, I thought that maybe the "togaochi" is just a failed attempt on evolving into an Apocryphos. Probably being due to the host not strong enough physically (or mentally/emotionally maybe) to carry out the new "form". Or maybe just not enough life force left to feed on for the process.
But then maybe it is just the highest form an "independent innocence" of their level can achieve. Like, they stopped half way and so, the form of a failed attempt. An actual successful one would probably be like what Allen and the crystalized innocence holders did. Actually Allen's would probably be something that is closer to Apo level if anything cuz he's parasitic-type. While the crystal innocences are like pseudo-parasitic types.
So it's like a step up on their form, higher than normal but still lower than the next higher type. Ngl I don't think they'll ever reach Apo level cuz independent and dependent innocence feels like a very clear and solid differentiation 😅
But all things considered in my thoughts, we have Kanda who started showing togaochi symptoms simply by not doing his job as an exorcist so yeah hahahhaaha
Another completely separate idea that came to mind is probably the Togaochi scene is like a miniature version on what would happen if the Heart gets full lol. So lowkey thinking (or is this canon? Idk anymore) Heart = Pillar, that Road mentioned sometime ago, a few chapters back when she was talking to Cross, i think.
Welp yeah, 2am energy.
#d gray man#d gray man togaochi#togaochi#2am thoughts#i feel like someone already thought about this hahaha im always late with the thinking game
