I left teaching and don't really leave the house much. I'm trying to figure out if I'm a grown up yet by taking photos of stuff that seems like grown up stuff.

Module 12 - logo work
Hey there, my current task is to create a tri fold brochure and 12 page travel guide for my local area (Gympie region, an agricultural area about 2 hours north of Brisbane, gold was discovered there and they play country music, so I don't have a lot to work with). Â This is the process I went through with coming up with a logo for the package (specifically told I needed to design a logo for it).
Any and all feedback welcome, whether it's on the specific design or the general direction I'm headed

Module 10 - branding drafts again
Iterations of the logotype Iâm looking to use for my hypothetical business for an assignment. The âplanâ is that this design will be 3D printed (it doesnât have to be for the assignment scenario, but that is the 3D idea I want to âcreateâ especially because Iâm not actually getting it done for real) so Iâm going for something simple to keep costs and difficulties to a minimum where possible

Module 10 2D/3D design
the assignment asks for sketches of a hypothetical design business branding. Iâve opted for a typography based logo, to use on a flyer and on a sign (signage doesnât have to be â3Dâ but Iâm wanting to go with the hypothetical idea of a 3D printed sign, so the simplicity/cleanliness of the design is an important element). Below are rough sketches of me playing with shapes, testing fonts, super rough idea of how itâd look in âreal lifeâ and a quick sketch of one of my approaches to the flyer. Â Following is my shortlist of fonts for the typographic logo. Â Any and all suggestions welcome.

Started reading a design assignment and realised I was doing all the steps I tell my tutees to do, so I turned it into an example. Once a teacher, always a person who thinks âI could turn that into a resource...â

but until then you have to lug it around every time you move house, continuing to convince yourself to read it, only to look guiltily at the cover next time you pack it in a box to move again. Something something baggage metaphor something something. We have a lot of boxes of books.
The most amazing book can sit on the shelf for years before youâre ready to read it. Sometimes, you have to be in the right place.

still life photo project: Being a Grown Up
BGU pieces 1 - 3
Objective
To capture the âsmaller momentsâ in life that communicate in some way the idea of being a âgrown upâ. The subject is specifically an individual who doesnât leave the house often due to mental health and habit, thereby narrowing the scope of potential image subjects, whilst simultaneously giving any objects more conceptual space to have meaning drawn from them when they might otherwise be considered insignificant.  Compounding this, the examination of everyday objects should incite an impetus for the âsubjectâ to examine themselves, their habits, and their idea of the âgrown upâ they really want to be.  Ideally, the images I create and share might speak to others who secretly struggle with similar doubts, feelings and yearnings. Ultimately, the form of this project is somewhat of a âstill lifeâ through photographs. I have challenged myself to not caption the photos so that anything they communicate relies entirely on the content of the photo and the mind of the viewer, so that they can bring their own âstoriesâ to these images, rather than just passively consume a story written by me.

Photo editing: making âartâ out of things just lying around
I was tasked with editing photos I had taken in order to emphasis design elements within them. Â The main thing I found interesting about this exercise is realising how many individual steps I took to edit each image. Â I normally wouldnât give it a second thought, often doing adjustments to colours/light etc. in a reactionary way, rather than thinking clearly about what I want to achieve. Â I think itâs good to go with my gut, but probably also good to give my gut some direction in the future.

Process: Image was cropped and rotated to align the vertical lines with approximate thirds and line the gap in the pencils at a horizontal third. Saturation and brightness were upped to bring more vibrancy to colours. Content-aware fill and clone stamp were used to get rid of paper that I didnât notice until after I took the photo.

Process: Image was cropped and rotated to line up Prissâ head with a thirds intersection. An increase in contrast and brightness was applied globally, and then extra layers of brightness and contrast on select areas to enhance brightness of light source. Colour balance was used for less greenish tones, lowered saturation of right hand side to dampen colour interference, then a few iterations of content-aware fill to get rid of collar sticking out.

Process: Image was cropped to reduce blank space and bring the vertical stitching of the pencil case near a vertical third. Saturation and contrast were upped to make the colours more extreme. Â Brightness was turned up somewhat, and levels of light were altered to further enhance the shine. Â Some iterations of content-aware fill were used to completely fill the image with colour.
