Cubby stood guard at the entrance to the control room, roller at the ready. She knew those other people were going to try to stop her, so she made sure to have some special cooked up for it. Nothing was going to stop her from… Was that another Mothership? No, too flashy. It was more like…
"Sorry we're late!"
The aircraft came closer into view, revealing itself to be an Octoseeker that was refurbished into a flying stage. The speakers blasted an uplifting synthetic pop tune, and a pair of Octolings rose from a trapdoor.
Tumblr media
"Echoes of the past..." Null began.
"Mixed into the sounds of the future!" Void added.
"Lighting the waves, we're Colorgraphic!"
"This one goes out to someone SUPER important to us, so tune in, Uni!"
"Time to short Cubby's circuits and end this once and for all! Now playing: Calamari Inkantation OMEGAMIX!"
The music shifted to a tune you all know well, and Null and Void began singing. Despite having been in sleep mode to power on the bomb, Uni began to stir. "… that… heavenly melody…"

Tammie continued to circle, staying just barely out of range. Something was going on, but they couldn’t get in to the eggs just yet. If the mothership got destroyed it would be bad for everyone involved. As soon as there was a proper distraction, they would take up the eggs.
Though, they could see a familiar face starting to circle around. “Now that’s more like it!” She said.
The sound of Frothy Waters stopped. Leaving a brief silence.
Now Playing: Toxic Anoxic

Above Splatsville, an aircraft soared, carefully circling a tower from a distance, facing towards the roof. The box shaped mothership hovered in the air.
Was that a faint golden glow on it? What was that other stuff up there.
Tammie narrowed their eyes, focusing really carefully.
A steel eel never gives up on their target.
Funny how that mindset can be applied to so much!
Now Playing: Frothy Waters
Tammie smiled to themselves. This should buy the inkfish time and get the eggs back home.

The salmonids joined together, preparing stuff as usual. Preparing for a dispatch.
Mutters went around as they all gathered materials. Some were just planning on doing their standard runs, but many were eyeing the Mothership.
Tammie knew the idea was crazy, but it would get eggs back and potentially save a few of their friends. Besides, getting to the roof of a building is no easy task for a salmonid.
They tried to ask some snatchers, but not enough could get on board with flying all the way to splatsville. That was when they realized a better solution.
It was no easy task to fly a mothership due to its maneuvers, but Tammie knew they had a knack for machinery.
The eggs would be taken back. That was final.

The salmonid snuck through the sewers with a frying pan, peaking her head up to see where they were trying to get to
The tower.
Splatsville was back to normal after big run, so they didn’t have to hide as much. Carefully they made their way over, gripping her pan tightly.

I hope I’ve done the right thing.
Most workers seem apathetic or tired. Just trying to get a paycheck. I feel for them
Others are new and excited. I don’t think they fully understand everything yet. Their enthusiasm is as bright as the orange on their suits. It’s sad to see their panic as they are overwhelmed, or when they question.
Then. The ones that are the worst. Those high ranking ones who seem fully aware of what they are doing and seem proud of it. Nicer suits. More of us are sent in. I have to just hope whoever I follow isn’t about to lead me by the egg basket. Haven’t had too close of a call yet. That’s who I have no empathy for.
I missed my job in a way. I missed the machines and even the adrenaline.
I didn’t miss seeing this. I didnt miss hearing the splats of the workers. Didnt miss seeing fear in an inkling who was the last worker in and she was out of ink, her panicked eyes reflecting the red light of the steel eel’s eyes as it came through the fog.
I got distracted. I haven’t throught about that incident in awhile.
What else is there to do? Is there anything else?

… guess it’s come to this, huh?
I don’t want to go back to my old job. I’ll probably only do it sometimes. Past few times I had mainly focused on running repairs. This time I kept a low profile due to some recent events.
I won’t stop trying to improve how salmonids are viewed. I hope we can make things better and one day we can find a better solution.
Going to be a pain having to pull my hair back, but I spent a lot of time getting it like this.
I’m sorry to anyone I encounter. I know most of you just are trying to get paid.
A steel eel never lets go of her targets. But in similar fashion, I’ll never let go of my hopes I can one day see better times.

My people… my poor people…
I’ve reunited. So many lost.
Reports of seeing some inkfish dead. Not just wiped out. Fatalities.
Our numbers. Falling. Few even can appreciate the glory of dying in battle
I.
I’m sorry

Don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate inkfish music but most of you never will appreciate Omega 3. There are other salmonid bands of course but not many are as known as them.
From my shelter I’ve been appreciating the music on the radio. Makes things a bit more easy to take
Something feels off. Don’t know what. I hope everything is ok out there…
I know everyone pissed about all the music being “garbled creepy nonsense” while the radio waves are jammed during big run but CRANK THAT SHIT UP!!! ω-3 IS MY FAVORITE BAND AND YALL ARE JUST A BUNCHA HATERS 😭🫵
Had edible last night after work and zoned out to the beautiful hymn of the salmonids as I drifted off.

Oh Cod.
How bad is it this time? I’m currently sheltering as I’m not in a place that’s very safe for salmonids to be right now. I can’t assist in my usual ways.
I WILL NOT HOLD BACK
I WILL NOT FALL
I WILL NOT FEAR YOU
I WILL NOT FEAR YOU
I HATE YOU
I HATE YOU

To any salmonids fighting. Be brave. I currently am sheltering. May the fallen be honored. The inkfish have been off from what I can tell. I hope everything improves.
To any inkfish? Please try to have mercy. Only take what you must. I hope one day our kinds won’t be enemies.

Oh his name is Cyclone. I’ve known him for a bit because he use to do trades with salmonids. I’m neutral on him but I know he gets stuff done. He’s mainly in stuff for money, but also just general looking for ways to stay on top of people and to know he’s in control. Sometimes he gets with a sketchy crowd, but if he gets his payment or gets people close, he doesn’t mind it.
He’s not directly interacted with anyone there. Just getting photos of the workers to be identified and given to a higher up. Where do I come in? Well. You’ll see.
big run update 6
(dunno if I should keep calling these big run updates considering they're not really big run-related anymore... ?)
still in my apartment
they haven't managed to get in yet
it seems like they're taking turns on the job or something while others catch up on sleep?? (I haven't bothered to look and I'm not going to 💀)
still wondering why all this effort for a generic office worker? I must be special or something ✨ /j
in all seriousness, though, they haven't actually tried anything so far aside from just. talking really loud.
"please come out, we just wanna talk for a minute! it's not a big deal!"
if it's not a big deal, then why have you guys been outside my apartment all night?
and more importantly, put your special down, I can hear you just fine without it

They won’t be there forever. I’ve got a plan, and the workers should scatter. There’s an octoling who has found a where the commotion is going on through word of mouth and is monitoring the workers and getting photos of their faces. He’s shady but if you can pay him or interest him he’s a big help.
Keep buying time, ok?

Tammie nodded. “That sounds like it would help. I believe I’ve heard that name on chumblr or somewhere, but never have met an inkfish with it. Don’t worry about me though, I’ll be careful! Group attacks weren’t my specialty but I can switch targets pretty fast. All I need is for them to scatter. If I need to chase one down? It won’t be a problem.” The salmonid made an almost chirping like noise that could only be perceived as how salmonids sounded when they laughed.
“Your help is appreciated. I’ll make sure to avoid harming anyone passing by”
With a crash, a salmonid broke in through the window. In fell a couple of papers and boxes. “Do not be alarmed! I need your help.”
They stood up and shook themself off. “I heard that you’re an engineer. While I’m paranoid of the fact you work for grizzco, I have limited options. One of the old octarian traders used some connections and helped me get information. It was a pain to get him to cooperate but I eventually was able to find a middle ground. Sewers and vents make it easy to sneak in, and sometimes doors are left wide open- The name is Tammie by the way. I’m getting side tracked.”
They quickly spread some of the papers along the ground, and showed the materials in the boxes. “I need some of these modified in the ways I have listed. I’d do it myself but it would take too long, and it’s a bad time to ask other salmonids. They are busy and someone might use this in the big run. I don’t want that. It wouldn’t be lethal but it’s enough to sting a bit”
The salmonid took a deep breath from saying so much at once. They stared at Mayday intensely.
[ @friend-of-inkfish ]
They blinked, startled by the sudden intrusion and rush of information. Slowly, they shifted over to one side to lock the door before turning back to Tammie with a suspicious look.
"i'm not one to be paranoid, really, but you'll excuse me for being a bit caught off guard. not often people come crashing through the window to talk to me."
They chuckled a bit, kneeling down to sort through the papers. "what's all this for? and how much would you pay? i don't do work for free, you know."
