Ah MAN Clancy binding with bandages or cheap cloth in DEMA because it's the only options he has and his ribs are easily hurt/messed up bc of it 馃槩
He has to look in the mirror without bandages even though he tries to leave them on for as long as possible. All he sees is a chest that isn't his and a slightly elongated, deformed rib cage that makes him even more self conscious. He kind of hates that he does it but the dysphoria from not binding is worse.

The reaction to eating them was very reassuring. It almost made Firefly's shoulders slump with a new comfort as they bit their lip. Scanning around the forested area, listening carefully, it seemed that the rest of the party had gone further out into the fields. Alone with a bird creature wasn't exactly a scenario they had planned for.
But they knew Laz, so it was pretty much the same thing.
"If you want, I know a place that's good to chill in, if you want." They offered it in a cheeky whisper towards the creature, "It's not uh. EXACTLY...nearrr where the camp is but. There's a guy I think who'd be willing to keep you a secret. If that's what you want."
The consideration of the ruffled feathers the second Firefly had appeared gave them pause for consideration. Parading a strange bird being through the Bandito camp wasn't going to go smoothly. They still weren't sure if it was safe or not to bring them through on all sides. If they attacked the camp, it wouldn't be good. If the Banditos weren't sure of them, that was also not great.
Luckily for them both, Laz hated being near the camps.
LUCKILY. Laz loved the peak of a nearby small mountain (barely a mountain so much as something too tall to be called a hilltop) more than a busy campsite. His torch always burnt at the top of his watch site. A distance farther than one might think.
"Or if you really want to uh. Go off and do what it is you were doing-" Firefly shrugged, "I can show you a path that might help ya avoid walking through it." They had maybe a vague idea of the direction to go, but their high held head would never convey that.

Firefly was always pleased to be part of the gathering trips. Dangerous as they might be, sending a group so far into the woods away from the camp itself, they couldn't help but adore the scent of filtered tree air. Flavored with the heat of the day and the leftover taste of bread on their mouth, dragging a basket to haul nuts, berries, and fibrous plants for weaving, Firefly hopped over a nearby log with a cheer.
"Hey Hey!" Their voice was a pitched and friendly chime as they moved through the bushes, the form beyond them marred and blurry past their vision. Surely it was another Bandito, though!
Hopefully it was
Their red stained mouth opened in a smile that revealed blackberry seeds as one hand messily held a pile of ripe ones. "You're not supposed to be alone, my guy! Two at a time, lets gooooo-! You want to go get the blackberries with me? They're literally perfect to take back. Oh! You think we could make a pie with them if we got enough?!"

The word both made Firefly blink. They tried to process what the single phrase meant for a moment, as if they had forgotten what they had asked. Once they registered it, though, their shoulders tensed up slightly in surprise. They let their eyes pass towards the berries being plucked. Huh. Flesh and berries?
Their mind conjured up images of roasting pots over the fire, meat and mushroom stews burning in an iron container. The scent of omnivores and pleasantness.
They grinned at the other and laughed, the sound not awkward but abrupt. Despite the slight nerves they felt in their gut over the sight of the surprising creature, their eyes dilated and stretched with emotions. They focused. They also didn't immediatley rip Firefly's hand off when the berries were offered. It was enough for the extroverted Bandito to give more talking a shot.
"Well, thanks for not eating me first thing! I promise berries taste better. I'm all burnt inside."
They made a face at the bird, sticking their tongue out while their nose wrinkled up, as if mimicking a 'bleh' face at the mere idea of eating their own flesh. When they were done they pulled their hand away from the other to toss the remaining few berries in their mouth and chew.
"Are you out here all alone?" This time, their voice was concerned.

The demand had Firefly pausing in their steps, eyes wide. The pose was a slight, awkward mid-step leap that made their muscles tense a bit too painfully as a hand plopped itself neatly on their unkempt scalp of hair. They squeaked in surprise, a weird little crackling noise as they looked up at the stranger.
"You can't see-OOOOOOHHHhhhhhhHH." Their eyes widened and they nodded their head at a breakneck speed. "Sorry I totally thought you could see me, I didn't mean to freak you out!" Their tone was genuine as they hopped out of the bushes now, comfortable with the space as they took up a spot at the side of the other. They popped a berry into their mouth as they returned:
"I didn't know people like that lived out here. I don't know if we 'claim' this place. I've never thought about the nature or whatever as something to 'claim." Another berry was popped into their mouth as they rustled around, the sound of their jacket making a soft 'woosh' sound each time the fabric scraped against itself. It echoed clearly with where they moved.
"Like, c'mon. These plants were here way before any of us were. I don't see why we can't be in the same place at once, as long as you're not like. Going to kill me or anything. Which I think you might have done already if you were planning on it. So- like - yeah! Though I wouldn't call our camp 'nearby'."
It might have been a small lie, just to keep their friends safe.

The fluttering of wings alerted Firefly first to something different. Their ears perked up, well accustomed to the sound of feathers and different species. With Laz's near constant point out of birds around the landscape, Firefly was surprised that the sound was big. Too big for anything they've ever heard or seen in camp. A vulture? They got pretty big, and more and more have been curious to join Laz's growing flock.
So when it settled, they pushed some of the branches away to stick their head curiously out and get a better look. When they did, their blue eyes widened in shock, mouth dropping open. Their teeth were still stained red, tongue containing a few remaining seeds of past blackberries.
Oh, Laz was NOT going to believe them about this.
"Uh." Firefly blinked stupidly for a moment as they stared at the equally shocked creature (person's???) face. Their puffy jacket caught on leaves and sticks, littering it with small bits of foliage as they tried to process the lack of terror in their mind. If their instincts didn't immediately want to make them flee, maybe this wouldn't be horrible?
"Uh..." The word came out a second time before they scooted closer, still opening up the berries in their palm, "What - Uh - Heyyyyyyyyyyyyy....So...Are you a like.... an 'I eat carrion and human meat' bird-person or like...a....you'd like some of these berries bird....person?"
That was rude. They didn't know what else to say for more information.

It wasn't the sight of the blood that made Laz's brow furrow sharply, but the story behind it. His own throat throbbed for a second at the own memories the injury seemed to bring back, and he pursed his lips before gathering up what he would properly need.
"Well 'f 'Carvers s' worried 'bout that she'd rip her own eyes out." It was a heavy spoken statement, bitter beyond words as he sat down next to Clara and put his tools at his side. He moved to his glove covered hand, undoing the heavy leather falconer material and letting it be tossed to the side. His fingers rummaged for bottle of antiseptic wash and a sutra needle with thread.
"Eye first. Food after." He declared, reaching his hand up but hesitating before actually touching her skin, "Can I? Don't got any anesthetic or anythin'. Might hurt."
It would hurt. He was just trying to be (sort of) nice. Infection was more important to prevent now more than anything.

He was away from the music chirping hopefully in the center of camp, but not because he didn't enjoy it. The sounds were easier on his ears from the distance, and the lights looked more like flickers of hope lining a beautiful frame than something he felt that he was watching a painting.
Instead he was fiddling with the wood and knife between his finger's, the falconer's glove usually covering Laz's left hand leaning safely against his foot as he continued to carve out the wood in his palm. The shape was amorphous now, ambiguous in any sort of creativity, but he had only just started. Laz had patience. It was kind of his thing.
Try as it might to be silent, a stick shifting in the forest was a far different sound than the fire embers crackling. Pausing in his carving, his head snapped up with a surprising speed, narrowed eyes squinting testily forward to see beyond the quiet leaves and identify the perpetrator.
"...'s there?" He barely spoke, the roughness of his voice slurred but not sharp.

Firefly's eyes widened at the sight of the stranger, hackles practically raising the back of their hair up into some sort of warning curl as they bit their lip. As the stranger prepared his movements, Firefly was already one step back, eyeing cautiously until the explanation was hesitantly given.
They considered the words. Certainly, he was no one they knew. They hadn't even been a year fresh into their life outside of The City, but it was enough to know that no one in DEMA dressed the way this guy did (at the very least not that they've ever seen). Either way, it was a lot more weapons than their simple utility knife and smoke pellets tucked into their pockets would fix.
They blinked, daring to step forward cautiously. Closing the distance but only enough for them to be revealed fully to one another. A fair playing ground, Firefly figured.
The next tactic seemed to be the obvious choice.
"I've never met a Nomad before! Is it like a place or something? Oh! Uh. Do you still want some berries orrrrrr-?" Their voice still carried an easy tone despite their nerves, but the hand extending out the berries was steady. A flavor of peace offering with a puffy jacket, but tense legs ready to book it if something might happen.

He didn't understand why she'd sit with him if she needed someone to talk to. He rarely talked to anyone. But regardless, he scoot over a bit where he was sitting, offering her more space as he twirled the knife in his hand.
"'S a tent wh'r you can get new ones," He wrinkled his nose in disapproval, "Dn't get why they havn't given y' any yet."
A pause. He pursed his lips. He dug the knife hard into the wood as he continued:
"What were y' wearing 'm for 'nyways?"
