inej and kaz having issues with touch due to trauma. kaz and wylan drowning and being reborn in the ketterdam harbor. wylan and jesper feeling like they have to hide a part of themselves due to their fathers. jesper and nina being grisha with addictions. nina and matthias being raised as a weapon rather than a human. matthias and inej being deeply religious. inej and wylan making themselves smaller because of the abuse they suffered. wylan and matthias being forced into a life of crime. matthias and kaz losing their parents and siblings. kaz and jesper being thrown into the barrel because of reckless behavior involving money. all of these characters being so different yet so similar and forever interconnected with each other because they know that no one else will understand

Something something Nina being dressed as The Lost Bride and Kaz and Muzzen as Madman as their disguise for getting into Hellgate. Like, i know these are just silly made-up names and all, but Nina is literally a girl who's lost her man and is away from home with nowhere to go (a lost bride, one might say), Muzzen is someone who's accepted to take a slaver's place in the most horrible prison ever so he could bust out (a madman), and as for Kaz, well, it's self-explanatory.

“But when she wanted to, Inej had a way of making you feel her silence. It tugged at your edges.”
Kaz has the audacity and stupidity to think Inej makes herself known to him. My brother in Ghezen, you are the only one who can feel her presence. She's seen to YOU. It's not her doing, IT'S YOURS.

So Shadow and Bone won the fan favourite show of 2023 award, huh?
I wonder what Netflix is thinking about this.

You know what makes Kaz a great boss? What makes him a better boss then both Pekka Rollins and Per Haskel?
He gets to know his crew and basically any people he’s working with. I know it’s basically an opposite of what he says about barrel gangs, but hear me out.
The main reason why Kaz was able to know that Big Bolliger was a traitor is because he knew that Bol was lazy. And knowing what he did in the "Crow club" it would be hard to know if he was lazy or just relaxed while on the job. Kaz knew that he was lazy - he took time to know the guy.
And also the thing that makes Kaz's plans good is that he keeps in mind all his crew's bad habits and vulnerabilities and plots around them. Its really easy to see that if you look at Jesper.
He keeps in mind that Jesper is late and that he can accidentally give up important info. We see that clearly in the beginning of the book. During the “set the wolf free” plan he made sure to tell Jesper the “wrong” time so that he would “be late” and free the animals at the right time. He knew Jesper would(or could) give up info by accident so he took precautions(saying this again: no one arranges an extra ship just to gather in front of it)
And we also have it in the end of CK.
I think both Inej and Jesper had been told the wrong time. Kaz knew that Dunyasha would be there, so he added some time for Inej to fight her. He talks with Jesper about kergud(I have no idea how to spell that, sorry) and also adds time for that fight. He might have actually putted the wyvil it Jespers pocket(as I do not remember Jes actually putting it there, or mb he just made sure it was there).
I mean, it would have been weird if there would be just the sound of one shot fired, but after the siren it would sound better.
When Kaz told Dregs that he won't be their father, he meant it, your father doesn't know you that well, but your sneaky annoying little sibling does.

the crows: *sitting in the kitchen*
kaz: *hears jesper walking to the kitchen* "watch, jesper lifted yesterday and i bet the second he walks in here he's going to complain about how sore his arms are."
jesper: *walks into the kitchen* "oh my GOD guys my arms are so sore."
kaz: "all of you pay up."

As a religious person, I want to acknowledge the wonderful way Leigh Bardugo writes religious characters like Inej and Matthias.
I relate to Inej and Matthias because Leigh Bardugo wrote their faith as the center of their lives that realistically influenced their world view. I felt seen because aspects of faith and my personal journey with religion were shown their stories.
For Matthias, his faith changed based on his experiences with the Crows. He realized that the rigid and bigoted ideas he had about Grisha were wrong. Why did he think this? Because a powerful man, who was his mentor, brainwashed that into him. But once he got to know Nina and the others, he realized this dehumanizing view of Grisha was wrong. He then did not reject his faith entirely; his view of it changed. This reflected my experience. I was told I had to have these wrong beliefs in order to please God and I slowly realized that was not true after years of having so many strict rules drilled into my head.
For Inej, her faith in the Saints is something that she holds close to her. Despite all of the horrible things that have happened to her, she has faith that the Saints are watching over her. She does struggle with the idea that the things she has done to survive go against her faith and will upset the Saints. This is something I have to remind myself, that no matter what I do or what I am going through, God will not abandon me.
I love having characters in fantasy that I can relate a huge part of my identity to, it means so much to me.

Reading Six of Crows for the second time (first time was 5 years ago) and hOW did I never notice that Kaz wasn't actually a moody broody barrel boss?? He's literally so easily entertained!
Like this part (translated from the German version):
Kaz: "When we get our money, you can burn your Kruge to keep warm"
Jesper: "I'm going to pay someone to burn my Kruge for me"
Kaz *catches up to him*: "Why don't you pay someone to pay someone to burn your Kruge for you? That's how the big bosses do it!"
Jesper: "You know what the big bosses do? They pay someone to pay someone..."
Their voices got quieter as they walked ahead and the others followed them
I can only imagine that Kaz, the so called never smiling, no-fun, hardened barrel-boss kept going "Oh, but the REAL big bosses pay someone to pay someone to PAY someone to pay someone to burn their kruge for them!"
And Jesper replies "I don't disagree, but the ACTUAL big bosses pay someone to pay someone to pay someone to pay someone to pay someone to burn their kruge for them!" until Matthias eventually yells at both of them to shut the fck up

We forget that Kaz found his Dad's corpse split open in a barley field like. Not even a month after his 9th birthday.
We forget that not even a month after his 9th birthday he and his brother leave everything he'd every known behind and move to a strange new city.
We forget that forget that 2 weeks after his father's death they meet Pekka Rollins.
We forget that a month after his father's death Kaz and Jordie end up living on the streets.
We forget that a month after his father's death Jordie dies
We forget that Kaz spends nearly 24 hours floating on the Reaper's barge.
We forget the sheer tragedy of Kaz's backstory, to go from happily living on a farm in Lij with his father and brother to floating on corpses for 24 goddamn hours in the span of 6 weeks at absolute most.
We forget that
Or at least I do, idk about y'all

My favourite part of show!Wesper is how Jesper says to Wylan "I can't make you any promises" then cut to two episodes later and he's declaring his eternal love and devotion to him and then another two episodes later he gives him a key to his place.
"I can't make you any promises" Jesper bby you're already looking at rings and wondering where to send the kids to school

i think the six of crows fandom has a real problem with acknowledging complexity in the characters which is ironic because it’s literally a book about morally grey characters. like yes kaz is a cold blooded murderer who cares more about money than being a good person but he’s also a dumb teen boy with a crush and a bad haircut. inej is a knife-wielding spy as well as a deeply religious girl who never stopped believing in kindness. jesper is a confident, reckless sharpshooter but he’s also incredibly scared and angry. wylan is an empathetic and kind artist along with being a dangerously intelligent explosives expert. nina is a fun, food-loving girl but she also stands up for the oppressed and struggles to recover from an addiction. matthias is an angry druskelle but he’s also the boy who learned to love grisha unconditionally. even kuwei has more depth than we give him credit for. he’s the flirty troublemaker as well as a grieving kid who’s had too much pressure put on him. they all have nuance, please don’t take that away because it’s such an important theme in the books

I’m just so mad about the wasted potential of so many rotting unfinished stories on streaming services. Streaming services killed storytelling.

This is so fuckin pathetic and childish and it's making me SICK. Imagine having an absolute gem of a project under your belt and just throw it and all the money that came with it away JUST to get back at the people who are working for you and were trying to get their basic rights, and then have the sheer fuckin audacity to put the blame for the cancellation on them.
