For some intersex people, we do need surgeries. We do need medications. We do need this or that.

And that's perfectly okay.

People talk a lot about how intersexuality isn't a disorder, and that's important work, but it's also okay if you are disordered or disabled directly from being intersex. I know I am.

It's also perfectly fine if your intersex traits cause you suffering and you wish to change them.

Part of my intersex traits included a uterus and ovaries that did not work well and made me very, very sick. They caused me quite a lot of pain and suffering. I had them removed several years ago and it is one of the best decisions I've made.

Intersexuality isn't inherently a disorder and at the same time it can be incredibly disordering or disabling, and that's okay. Intersexuality isn't inherently suffering and at the same time it can cause quite a lot of suffering and that's okay. Acknowledging this is really important.

I get pretty sick of talking about my experiences in life as a black woman cause people only see that I present as a man now. I’ve only been out as a man for two years. I grew up and lived my life as a woman for 28 years before I finally changed my name and pronouns. Which means I do in fact know what it’s like to be a black woman in America. Which means I do actually get an opinion when it comes to things women go through. Reproductive rights? Bro I still have my original parts. The ways women are treated in the workplace? Yeah been there, still there actually since I have the added bonus of if I didn’t work with a bunch of queer neurodivergent gen z, I’d probably have to defend both my masculinity and my femininity like I did in my last job. Discourse between black and white women on tiktok? Scathing looks and “what would you even know penis haver?” Like ??????????? I don hab pendis?????????

But like here’s the thing. I don’t feel comfortable in spaces meant for men. I don’t. Those are spaces meant for “real men” and I don’t belong there as I am an “imposter.” I’m not a “real man” I’m just a little girl who shops in the men’s section at Walmart. And that is not fucking fun or safe for me, who struggles to participate anyway.

I may not identify as a woman now. But I will always identify *with* women. I will always be a grown ass man with all of the trauma of a teenage autistic girl who didn’t have many friends and didn’t know why people didn’t like her.

It’s just really fucking frustrating. Being treated like my identity is a betrayal, like I’m a traitor to women because I flipped sides. Like bro I still cry and throw up when a small enough animal is present. I still delight in morning teas and soft light in my window. I still crave all of those things that are inherently “feminine”! I simply cannot enjoy it fully in its entirety with these massive fucking tits I didn’t fucking want!

There’s really no point to this rant it’s just painful remembering that my best friend wouldn’t let me meet her new boyfriend because she wanted to double date and wanted “a guy friend for him to hang with”. Like I’m not a guy now and haven’t basically been one in spirit since we were five. We don’t talk anymore.

thats not what it means, that’s not what it’s ever meant

two spirit is an pan-tribal term coined by indigenous people in 1990, for indigenous people, to replace the term berdache, an offensive term that white settlers applied to indigenous people that fell outside of the western lens of gender and sexuality

two spirit isnt a "native version of nonbinary" because two spirit doesnt inherently mean someone is nonbinary. some of us are, but so many two spirited people arent. many people in our community also choose specifically not to label themselves with terms like nonbinary, gay, bisexual, etc, and solely use two spirit or another term from their tribe or language

we can be anything and everything and nothing you've ever imagined

to say its a "native version of nonbinary" is not just inaccurate, it's a complete erasure of a massive part of our community

Seeing conservatives liken gender affirming surgeries to mutilation and say no minor should have them because they *can’t consent* yet they never advocate for intersex people who ARE ACTUALLY HAVING SURGERIES DONE ON THEM *WITHOUT CONSENT* is wild.

Conservatives want people to conform to binary so they will contradict themselves to force people to fall into their ideals.

So many queer advocates are quick to point out the transphobia (and that is a good thing) but rarely point out the intersexism. And it leaves a whole conversation in the dark.
