Green Blazer
I'm getting at bit nostalgic about my old corporate life today on EK's Daily Dress
If there is one thing I miss about my old job (apart from all the rad people I used to work with) it’s the dress code. As much as I love a little bit more freedom in choosing what I wear, there was something really satisfying about getting up everyday and putting on a blazer and a pair of heels. It also made my slightly quirky sense of style stand out a bit more. We all know I’m a fan of basic…

Happy end of the work week!
What better way to celebrate than with a fun Friday outfit.
You may recall this look from Ladies Night and it follows all my ideas from my Going Out post, so much so it’s actually the same look with this adorable bow print jumpsuit in place of the LBD.
I honestly have not worn this jumpsuit enough considering I purchased it at least 5 years ago, but I love that it works just as well with a jacket, tights and boots as it does solo with sandals.
Well that’s it for today kids, short and sweet. Now go out and enjoy your weekend!

Fashion Dreams - Senreve Bag
With a healthy tax return on the way, I'm having a hard time not blowing it all on this gorgeous and versatile bag. Check it out on EK's Daily Dress.
Imagine a bag that’s stylish AND practical, big enough for everything (including your laptop) BUT doesn’t look like a duffel bag, can be over-the-shoulder, on your arm, cross body AND a backpack? Sounds like the unicorn of handbags. Well Senvere have made it and I want it, NOW! I first saw Senreve’s Maestra Bag on Cupcakes & Cashmere and then shortly after it popped up on Gal Meets Glam and I’ve…

On the Flip Side
A flip on a recent look. Check it out on EK's Daily Dress
It wasn’t until I was writing this post that I noticed it’s a flip on this look. How embarrassing! I guess it goes to show that if something works, keep working it. This look definitely plays into all the rules I talked about here. Classic silhouettes, fun colours and cute prints make a basic look a little less…..well….basic.

Review my Closet
I may have a slight obsession with Review.... Check it out on EK's Daily Dress
When I started working in the corporate world I quickly sourced my go to brands for affordable, stylish and flattering clothes. But I think my hands down, absolute favourite brand is Review. It may not be super affordable, but they have several outlet stores in Melbourne (at DFO and on Bridge Road) where you can get a bargain price for these top quality pieces. I purchased this pencil skirt…

Happy Hour with Helen - Public House
A cheeky afternoon bevy with my favourite girl. Check it out on EK's Daily Dress
I just started a new job and on my first day I was lucky to finish up at around 2pm. What was I to do with an afternoon off? Of course I called up my dear friend, and regular drinking buddy, Helen. Helen conveniently lives in Richmond, a suburb thats on my train trip home and is home to a bevy of amazing bars. On this particular day we decided to try out Public House on Church Street. Although…

Get the Look - Red-y to Work it
A classy red, white & blue look to coincide with 4th of July.
Lands End long sleeve tee, 13 AUD / Miss Selfridge blazer jacket, 65 AUD / Michael Kors cropped pants, 49 AUD / Ryder ankle booties, 79 AUD Sorry for the delay on this post, but I thought it only seemed appropriate to hold off on this look until we were right on the brink of the 4th of July. But it’s here just in time for any of my American readers to steal some ideas for a slightly more subdued…

Red-y to Work It
Printed pants? Yes please! Blazer & booties? Always! Pops of red? You had me at hello! Check it all out on EK's Daily Dress.
I just returned to this post to find two words I had hurriedly typed when I uploaded these photos; “best pants”. That’s honestly how I feel about them. They are the best. I picked them up for a cool $20 at Myer about a year ago and when I did I never thought I’d love them this much. Firstly, I love that they are completely different to anything else I own (ie. they aren’t black). The slim cut is…

Vintage Von Trapp
This vintage look dress made from furnishing fabric makes me feel like I could be one of the Von Trapp family. Check it out on EK's Daily Dress.
Who doesn’t love The Sound of Music? What better way to pay homage to the Von Trapp family than with my very own DIY dress made from furnishing fabric. My mum loves fabric and has quite a hefty collection she’s been collecting for 30 years. She loves clothes just as much as I do (possibly more), both shopping and making her own, and has always had the knack for thinking outside the box and not…

I love to cook. I’m usually a baker, known at my previous work places for everything from slice to cookies to cake and particularly my vegan cupcakes (I will feature this recipe soon).
Recently I’ve been trying out some new recipes for main meals to mix it up and expand my savoury repertoire. I based my recipe for pasta salad on this one, with some small adjustments. It was super easy, cheap, tasty and made enough to share with my housemates and even take some home to Mum and Dad.
Tumblr media
I was fairly true to the original recipe, however I used green capsicum instead of red (because there wasn’t any at the supermarket) and I used a red onion. My housemate Steve assisted me in cooking my first ever hard boiled eggs. If you’ve never hard boiled any egg before I very much enjoyed Steve’s method – put the eggs in simmering water, then forget about it for a while and when you remember they will be ready.
Tumblr media
While the pasta cooked (I used a packet and a half of pasta for this recipe) I chopped up the capsicum, celery, onion and eggs. Then got started on the sauce.
Tumblr media
The original recipe is clearly from the US and called for Miracle Whip. I’m sure if you scoured unusually grocery stores or possibly Costco you could find miracle whip in Australia, but when I googled it it seems to just be mayonnaise with paprika and garlic powder so I made my own.
Stir everything into the sauce and that’s it! Super easy, super quick. Made in under 20 minutes. This is a great recipe for feeding a crowd at a BBQ, in fact my housemate said “it tastes like a picnic”, but it works just as well as an easy lunch or simple side dish.
Tumblr media
I recently cooked up a storm, making a super simple, super cheap and super easy pasta salad. Check out the recipe on EK's Daily Dress I love to cook. I'm usually a baker, known at my previous work places for everything from slice to cookies to cake and particularly my vegan cupcakes (I will feature this recipe soon).

Tokito Paris Waterfall Jacket SALE $44.97
Tokito Paris Essential Straight Leg Pant SALE $34.97
I talked about how wonderfully versatile a black blazer and pencil skirt are in my Back in Black – Work post. The same can be said for a flattering, classic pant suit. Whether you prefer wide leg like here, or a slimmer style like here, they are a staple in the office wardrobe.
I would love to invest in a custom tailored suit (shame they aren’t as affordable as jeans), but I’ve found plenty of affordable options by keeping my eye out for a bargain. I’ve found awesome suits at places like Portmans, Review (check the outlet stores for big discounts) and Myer. The Tokito range at Myer has heaps of options at great prices and the Jacket and Pants shown above are currently ON SALE, making the suit under $80!
Pair the suit with a crisp shirt to feel like a boss in the office or you use them as individual pieces to mix and match within your wardrobe and create a range of looks. My only fully matching pant suit only made it’s first appearance recently (here), but I’ve done this heaps with the skirt suits in the past, like in the examples below. (whoa! my photo game has seriously improved.)

I always think going black is a practical choice (is it obvious yet that I wear ALOT of black?), but there are heaps of options out there in different cuts, colours and patterns. Find something you know you will wear for years to come, that makes you feel fabulous and works with your wardrobe.

Working Suits Me
It felt great to be back in the office, especially in a killer suit. Check it out on EK's Daily Dress
I recently went a month without working. That may sound like a dream to many people, but to be honest, it was boring as hell! When I got the call to start work in a very corporate environment I was stoked! It said in the description of the role to wear “corporate attire (preferably matching suit)”, so I was super excited to rock this charcoal pant suit. I purchased this Tokito City suit a long…

Back in Black - Going Out
It's the end of my Back in Black series and it's time to Go Out. Get the look and inspiration on EK's Daily Dress
Can you believe we’ve been talking all black for 2 weeks now? I swear I could make another 76459086 outfits without a spot of colour. But alas, all good things must come to an end and, just like the end of a long work week, it’s time to go out! I love, love, love getting dressed up and letting my hair down. In my opinion there is no better way to get over all kinds of stress than putting on an…

Back in Black - Casual
Jeans and a T-shirt doesn't mean boring - even if it's all black. Learn how to mix it up on EK's Daily Dress
I’ll be the first to admit that casual clothes can often mean boring. If I have no where in particular to go I will usually end up in basic jeans and a t-shirt. But even in a monochrome palette jeans and a t-shirt can still have some interest. I believe the key is mixing textures and proportions. Skinny high waisted jeans, a super soft tee and an oversized knit creates enough interest to fight to…

Back in Black - Work
Basic blacks are key for office attire. Check out more on EK's Daily Dress
Dressing for work can be hard at the best of times. You want to be professional, but you still want to be you. There is a fine line that can be a little blurry in some office environments. I remember my very first day in a super corporate office at the tender age of 20. I was expecting to walk into an office of 40+ year old males, so I played it safe and turned up in a matching grey suit with a…

Back in Black - Sporty
All black look for your next run, yoga class or convincing that cute barista you lift.
Let me start this out by saying I am NOT a sporty person. Since quitting gymnastics (which I was actually quite good at) at age 13, I’ve avoided intentional exercise like the plague. Occasionally, however, life calls for something a little stretchier. I, personally, dress sporty so infrequently that when I do I usually wear my daggiest T-shirt and shorts from my uni days when I was a gymnastics…

In many ways Melbourne is like the New York City of Australia. It’s the country’s hub for culture, art, music & fashion, it’s fast paced, constantly on the forefront of new trends and we LOVE to wear black.
From the height of summer to the blistering cold (and rain) of winter, Melbournians (yes, that’s what we’re called) can find a way to wear black morning, noon and night.
I’ve already featured my fair share of all black outfits here on the blog (like here, here and here) and over the next 2 weeks I’ll be talking about 4 all black looks that I’ve put together, Sporty, Work, Casual & Going Out, how you can make all black ≠ boring and how to add a splash of colour without looking like you’ve just stepped off the streets of Harajuku.
Get in the mood by checking out my All in Black Pinterest board.
