I've been diving into the initial trilogy of his dark materials again due to an overwhelming need for familiar comfort and so I searched threw my childhood memories for some nostalgic gems.
Tumblr media
Now as I'm well into the first book of the series I am reminded of why I love it so much and why, in my opinion, the trilogy still stands up as a good piece of writing even without the influence of nostalgia.

Lyra's character is great, both then and now, especially to me. Her character especially shines in her interactions with other characters, more so with characters she trusts.
The story is also well paced and events are presented in such a manner that is understandable but doesn't necessarily spell out for the reader therefore not all the details are clear to us and we are left with some blank spaces to fill over the series. This mainly due to the presence of the characters daemons.
Daemons are such a fascinating facet of the story in terms of both the world building and lore as well as being used as a narrative tool. The daemons adds depth to the accompanying characters by voicing they're thoughts about events and they're thought processes in relation to the stories events. This also allows the daemons to act as a voice for the reader to see into the story and the characters In greater depth.
The stakes are also an important part of the series as they continue to rise through the story and that contributes to a sense of growing tension and adds a seemingly dangerous edge to a child's journey.
Tumblr media
Perhaps I'm biased as I have always loved this series since I was introduced to it as a young child but I believe that this still holds up a great piece of young adults fiction and is a great read even if your not a young adult.

I finally have the two volumes of Irish myths and legends by Lady Agusta Gregory.
These books are some of best collections of Irish folklore, in my opinion.
These are beautiful hardbacks with gold leaf details, as the picture shows.

Another piece in my little goblin horde.
Its a little jar filled with gem and crystal fragments and yes, it does make a very satisfying rattle when shook.

The only other ishiguro book in my personal collection.
I look forward to reading this one when I have the chance as it includes dystopian elements, which I enjoy.

This arrived just two days ago and I'm very happy.
After finishing what moves the dead, I have to say T. Kingfisher is fast on their way to becoming one of my favourite authors.
I am very excited to read this book as it hints as some cosmic-type of horror, which I just love.

This was gift from a late family friend and is the shell of some large species of sea snail. They found it on a beach when he was traveling the world as a culinary student, they gave it to me as a belated birthday present.
It is the pies de resistance of my goblin treasure horde and is shown on shelf in my room for all to see.

One of the only books of its title that I managed to find in a small bookshop, like many times before. The premise interested me greatly so I added it to my purchase.
I have yet to properly read this book or even skim over its pages but I greatly look forward to doing so when I finish the six books I am currently reading.

This book was the last of its title in my local bookstore and after reading the blurb I was intrigued and so I bought it.
I have only skimmed the first chapter so far but it is a very easy read and I find the story very easy to get into, which I will do once I finish the other six books I'm currently reading.

A collection of poetry I bought at a nearby city bookshop on a trip with a group of friends.
The themes of the poems range from death, decay, the enevitable entropy of time and history. I found the poets style of writing to be enjoyable most of the time with some of the poems having a juttering quality which made it hard to read some times.
Despite some poems being hard to read, a larger part of the collection was a delight to read hence I am sharing it here as a recommendation.

Finally started this classic when I was in a waiting room, and so far I'm enjoying it although I will say that even though I'm only on the first few chapters Dr. Frakenstein is already insufferable to me.
Mary Shelley writing is incredibly verbose and detailed however it can also be long- winded at times because of this, still, even with just starting this book I have to recommend it.
I enjoy Shelley writing style and find the content and plot of the story so far to be very interesting.
