You know the type. Big hands, big shoulders, could probably bench-press a car, but the moment they sit down, they look like they’re carrying the weight of the whole damn universe. Eyes that are just a little too soft for a face that sharp. Like, are you okay? Do you need a hug? Do you want to cry into my arms for three hours?

They look like they could destroy you, but deep down, you know they'd rather let themselves break first. What is it about them? Why do they look like they could hold you together when they’re clearly held together with duct tape and desperation? It’s unhinged. It’s unfair. I want to fix them. Or maybe I want to fall apart with them. I don’t even know anymore.

I find it pretty annoying when people in the fandom start coming up with arguments like the just learned what 40k is

When literally everyone kills people, is edgy and a war criminal that is the "typical person", not for us irl, but for the setting and when diving deeper it should be looked at from this is the base (like for us lets say not killing people) and ok what is different bout this character?? u (ideally) wouldn't look at a "typical person" irl and say xyz doesn't count cz ur a "typical person" then why does it apparently work like that when it comes to fictional persons

Hey can we stop talking about powerwashing the Night Haunter (Konrad Curze) and calling it cute?

And I don't mean, "lovingly leading the Night Haunter to a bath and washing him down in a relaxing way that he consented to." I mean the depictions of trapping him and drenching him with water out of a hose because he's 'gross'.

We all know that the Night Haunter is, among many other things, a fictional representation of how mental health falls when you are not supported anywhere in your life + how you learn to cope with that. His family has successfully turned him into an 'other'- an 'us vs. them'- and he even directly calls this out to Sanguinius's face in Chapter 24 of Pharos. The entire chapter is spent on this.

He has been so abjectified that no one will even call him by his actual name. He says over and over that his name is Night Haunter, and it furthers the 'you are not one of us' ideology when none of his brothers ever have the respect to call him that. I will admit my bias as a trans person (with a dead name I still get called by) that this one grinds me in a very specific way.

Look, we know he stinks. He's covered in viscera and dried blood and untold ages worth of grime, but it's genuinely insensitive to suggest that the proper course of action is to hose him down or powerwash him then call it a service. Mental health asylums used to forcibly strip their patients to nothing and blast them with cold water to clean them off because they were in such a poor mental state that they couldn't take care of themselves. Jets of cold water were also a form of shock therapy used to, "cool off the illness."

There is nothing directly wrong with depicting Night Haunter getting hosed down like an animal if the purpose of your piece is to degrade him further. Content that depicts those sorts of negative events has a right to exist as a storytelling medium. Just don't try to make something that is actively a punishment still used today in prisons and protests into something that's totally okay and cute to do for Night Haunter because "it's just taking care of him!"

It's sad to see what he does to himself. It's comforting to think we could help him improve if we could give him the right words. Show him that he is seen for the mental struggles and scars he has, or, god forbid, maybe give him a shower and instill a new sense of something to be confident in, but perhaps recognize how the specific action of forcing someone to do something against their will might come across.
