this is actually insane that american girl is pulling white blonde goty AGAIN but also not surprising because they've learned they can get away with it. people will shame them for a few weeks, then go out and buy her anyway and call it a "diversity win" because she has glasses as if u cant just buy glasses for any preexisting doll. its honestly kind of shameful. also the outfit is god awful and is that seriously blue eyes and blonde hair on a nanea face mold.

american girl doll did such a good job debuting three unique-looking dolls with characters who were community-minded and had genuinely interesting stores with world by us, and it was even more impressive when they did nothing to promote them and gave them the bare minimum in terms of accessories and play sets, and it was so awesome when they silently retired them as if they had never even existed and scrubbed them from the brand, and its really cool how anyone who wants a world by us doll now will have to pay insane prices on the secondhand market to buy one

i love how american girl doll designed adorable outfits for maryellen and melody, both dolls who are still sold and have their accessories available in store and online, that are widely beloved and well designed (maryellen's strawberry play outfit, melody's purple birthday outfit), and said "wow, people really like these!! :) Retire That Shit."

my favorite grey market seller currently has kirsten’s pajama robe thing for sale 👀 they’ve also got the base dress for Sam’s old birthday outfit and her old christmas dress…

no guarantees that they’re actually newly manufactured. but if they are. omg.

anyway. I will post an update when they arrive with additional info if there is any. but I’m feeling very hopeful about a Kirsten re release soonish, and this is the first hint I’ve seen of a possible sam uncubing!

(however, they could always just be old stock that got left somewhere or someone just recreating them based on patterns so. I’m having fun speculating but it’s certainly not definitive)

I finally got all the pieces of Virginia's "Meet Outfit" and did a little photoshoot! (The indoor photos were taken at the historic Hotel Ruby Marie here in Madison WI, where they very kindly allow cosplayers and other photographers to use their beautiful vintage decor as a backdrop!)

Oh, and because I'm super proud of her jewelry, some closeups and info on each:

This is the pendant on her necklace; it was inspired by Victorian-era mourning jewelry, which often contained hair or other parts of the deceased loved one. If you look closely, you may notice her father's photo is actually Jim Beaver as Carter Cushing in Crimson Peak (Edith Cushing was one of my main inspirations for Virginia). I edited the photo for that "vintage" feel. The hair, which is meant to be from her father's beard, was actually taken from Captain's tail! 😅

I made her ring using a blank DIY ring from Etsy and a skull charm intended for nail art

Her bracelet is made from real Jet beads (I made it by taking apart a human-sized bracelet and restringing part of it). Jet was a very popular stone for mourning jewelry in the Victorian era.

I thought it would be fun to edit together all the American Girl Dolls released in 2023. There they are! All together.

As of October 2023, American Girl has released a total of 10 dolls. These include 2 new historical dolls. Nicki and Isabelle Hoffman are a pair of twins living in 1999, tying into the current Y2K fashion trends.

Kit Kittredge received a re-release for her 100th birthday. Lastly for main line dolls, TWO Girl of the Year Dolls were released: Kavi Sharma in January, as the 2023 GOTY. Lila Monetti, GOTY 2024, received an early release in October 2024. AG is currently heavily marketing Lila for the holiday season. She received a magazine cover and four opening pages in the October 2023 catalog. I have also been inundated with daily AG Rewards emails about her.

Five Collector Series dolls were released between September and October. A collaboration with FAO Schwarts led to the Toy Soldier Doll, and collaboration with Disney brought three dolls: Jasmine, Belle, and Rapunzel. Lastly, the holiday collectors doll was Shimmering Silver, with a more monochrome color palette and design that calls to mind Greco-Roman dress for some and Game of Thrones for others.

my husband installed lights into our wall unit furniture so I could display my favorite AG historicals 🥹🌷also when they were outside of it they collected so much dust so i'm hoping being behind glass helps prevent dust from now on.
