Oh boy, I sure do love running two campaigns in two different systems (weekly DnD and monthly Monster of the Week) and having about 11ish ideas for my next campaign. It sure is great when I’m not even halfway through DnD and am hardly into the MOTW one. /s.
Genuinely, I do plan on pitching 3-5 of my more developed ideas (and tbf two are modules I’d like to run) when it’s time for a new campaign to be planned and having my players rank them so it’s not all on me to choose. But still having these ideas is weird/hard cause I feel the need to start something new and accidentally overwhelm myself again lol.
#the dm speaks#dnd#ttrpgs#monster of the week#also at some point we all need to play sleepaway again. but that’s a very different process to put together.#sleepaway

one of the worst things about being a writer is when you have to sit on your hands about a REALLY COOL SPOILER. and you just want everyone to know about the really cool spoiler you want them to know so so so badly but the best way for them to learn it would be to experience it and you also want them to do THAT so you’re just sitting on your hands vibrating and making a low whine while your dog looks at you with concern. and then your friends go “what’s wrong”. and you go PLEASE I NEED TO TELL YOU. and they go “oh okay so tell me”. and you go NO,

Best compliment I think I’ve ever received as a DM:
“If this campaign were a show, I’d probably have binged it all already. And then started writing fanfic or something”

Accidentally put all 3 of my players through the emotional ringer tonight instead of just one like I intended. Oops.

My dealer: Got some straight gas 🔥😛 this strain is called “pre campaign jitters”😳 you’ll be zonked out of your gourd 💯
Me: Yeah whatever. I don’t feel shit.
5 minutes later: dude I swear I have no idea what the plot of session 1 is
My NPC companion pacing: we need to name everyone

Lord help me I’m having new campaign ideas and the new one that’s gonna happen doesn’t even start till Saturday
#the dm speaks#it’s legend of zelda themed if you care#problem is i gotta find people who have actual zelda familiarity beyond the Switch games (which are awesome dgmw)#or who are willing to put up with my nonsense and race restrictions lol

Y’all ever have a “oh this campaign is cooked” moment in real time? Like something happens and you just know that it’s not gonna last or end well?
Cause I just did. And it’s interesting for sure. Adding another player when there’s already a lot of scheduling issues will do that.

Finished Curse of Strahd. I have a lot of thoughts on how I’d run it a second time and things I’d fix. But overall it was a really fun campaign! I’m glad it was completed. And of course without an excellent party it would not have lasted 9 months, fighting on and off in person and online sessions, jobs, job switches, 2 senior recitals, an internship, a practicum, and a three week trip to the United Kingdom. It was a great group and I look forward to playing with all of them in other games one day and having a mini sequel arc in Barovia eventually!

So glad I went and checked in on my one player’s lore document cause I had to go and change the last name of a very vital and important antagonist connected to her backstory because of it

Resisting the urge to message my players and go “Hey guys! Which layer of the horrible horrible Abyss sounds the most fun? Terrible jungle? Slime pits? Demon spiders? Big maze? :D”
Me: Hm. There’s this archfey that’s been missing for like. A thousand years. And his followers don’t know where he went. Something definitely happened to him tho and he’s missing. Where is he?
Me:…
Me: What if his half sister tossed him into the Abyss? Just chucked him down there?

Seriously considering seeing if I can get away with a setting with no humans, no elves (at least no standard wood/high elves), and possibly no dwarves. So far I have a satyr and a firbolg committed as PCs. Hoping and praying that the last player doesn’t ask to play one of the three most standard fantasy races lol
#if she does I won’t say no#but this is a world that’s kinda been dealing with… magic fallout for ~150 years#i think most of the people that are there are kind of Creatured to some degree#also i kinda just wanna stick to the more out there races#the dm speaks

Sometimes I think about scheduling shenanigans people have pulled on me and my best friend (who’s also a DM) and I’m just like. How did I let people do that. How did I let someone who was hosting get away with just not leaving in time from her parent’s house in time to get back to her apartment and making us wait because she just couldn’t be bothered. How did we let people get away with playing while at work or at other events and only half paying attention. How did we let people get away with saying “oh I can only do an hour” when they got on and not before the session. I understand people have tight schedules but some of the blatant disrespect I’ve seen and put up with is just beyond the normal allowance of grace for me.
#tbc i am still friends with and love these people!#but damn. i was hella desperate when i was first starting out to satisfy everyone. now i’m not so willing to put up with BS#the dm speaks#dnd#ttrpgs

Oh my god. Ohhh my god. I just realized that the werewolf children fight club in Curse of Strahd… is VERY much similar to a huge element of one of my PC’s backstories. I was debating on making that a thing in my campaign, but now I’m like. Absolutely 100% sure I have to do it.

Someone tell me why comprehend languages is one of the default spells Strahd has prepared
#i’m so glad I’m editing his stat block right now instead of later#like what is this. i guess it makes sense for him to have it as something he’d use#but also. he speaks a ton of languages already#and if he’s going into a fight why would he have that one ready????#the dm speaks#curse of strahd spoilers#i guess#curse of strahd#dnd#ttrpgs
