Alright, Laura. If you're going to fight me every step of the way, I'll let it go. But, we better start forming packs around her soon, before we get picked off one by one.
Did you really have to get rid of my entire shoe collection, Der?
At what cost Der?
What if this time it’s you or Cora that gets ripped in half?

Cora, you have to understand that sometimes you do what feels right, no matter the cost.
What I'm wondering is, how did Beacon Hills stop being a beacon the first time. Maybe we should focus on that.
Who says their parents are safe now? Who says it’s not gonna end up being much much worse than it would have been anyway?

Just focus, okay? You'll never get any better at examining your environment if you keep honing in on every passing scent.
Anyone else smell barbecue?
Right. Sorry..

Right, that dumb false name Stiles so kindly gave him. Just ignore it for now.
"Stiles friend." Now that this guy was back, Derek doubted he'd be targeted again. But going the extra mile couldn't hurt.
"Get in. I'll take you where you're going."
Uhh..Miguel?

Peter's calls broke the spell momentarily and Paige vanished before Derek's eyes. Head turned round over his shoulder, he eyed the distance, uncertain if it was her or Peter he was searching for. One thing was apparent. He had wandered further, much further than it had seemed while he was with her.
As his eyes jumped around the scenery, the music began again and he realized it wouldn't be long before the young girl would catch his vision again too. A warmness began to fill him as the music whispered in his ears, attempting to suppress the misgivings that were taking hold.
Whatever was happening, something was off. Laura, Erica, Boyd's return, the way he felt when he saw them for the first time. That had been fear. The comfort he perceived upon seeing Paige again, it was flat and stale. It was fake.
A rising concern for his uncles whereabouts nagged at him, but the music pleaded with him to stay. The melody had taken a haunting turn now, like she knew Derek was seeing through the illusion. The sound was grating, and his heart beat responded to the speeding tempo. The woods felt darker, unnaturally dark for a werewolf. It didn't matter, he had to run.
Finding Danny || Derek & Peter
Peter stared into the negative shapes created by the twisting limbs and rigid trunks. A small scuffle of movement had appeared in the corner of his eye, only to avoid his scrutiny once his gaze flicked over to the area. He picked apart every detail of the forest: the leaves on the ground, remaining, stubborn leaves on the trees, the bark, the open space, the placement of every root and trunk. Peter couldn’t find a single hint of what could have been caught in the corner of his eye.
Hearing Derek speak with disappointment broke him out of his trance. He felt only slightly offended at his nephews assumption. His sense were dulled compared to how they used to be, but they’re improved drastically since his revival. No need to degrade his improvements any more, thank you. He rolled his eyes, and refused to make a comment once the other wolf decided to take off in an unspecified direction. Following for a short while, but at his own pace, he continued to expanded his senses into the environment.
Another movement.
Peter kept his eyes unfocused and straight, watching out for every minute motion. When he figured it was pinpointed, he turned his head sharply.
Nothing.
His insanity may have been not so much a thing of the past, but it had never carried over to small hallucinations. Looking back, he scoured the area for his nephew, who seemed to have wandered off in Peter’s distraction. “Derek!” Peter called out in the silent woods. No answer. No music. There was the soft murmur of a possible heartbeat, but that could have been any animals. “Derek,” Peter called out in a more normal tone of voice. “If you went to follow that nonexistent-“
Peter cut off his berating comments to shift his attention once more to the elusive specter. Always in the corner of his eyes. Never a specific image. Only a flash of shadows, a tangle of limbs, a scent of… scent of something. It was something of long forgotten, repressed in his memories, but he couldn’t place a name to it. It would have been recognizable if it wasn’t abused and twisted into something so repulsive and foreign. The word was on the tip of his tongue and Peter wanted to swallow it down and forget it ever came up. He whipped his head over to the dark woods and studied where he saw the fumbling movement, and found it empty once more.

They didn't know what else to do. It's not their fault. You know how important protecting the last of your family is.
Anyone else think this ‘making Beacon Hills into a literal beacon’ thing was a bad idea?

Yes, come to me. I'll be able to help you when the time is right.
You remind me of a dad.
But… I guess you’re right…ish. Well, I’ll know to come to you when I think about it then?

Derek paused, confirming the presence of the sound he had caught. Definitely louder now, like it was getting closer, not farther. Puzzled, he looked back behind him. "You can't hear it Peter? Are your senses really that dulled?" The sincerity of his uncle's face, Derek had learned was never something to could be trusted. But, what motivation could the older wolf have for denying the sound?
He stood quietly, half embarrassed by Peter's claim of wandering, yet equally enthralled by what he heard. The simple and pleasant sound was much clearer now. A single instrument singing it's solo. Even his curiosity melted away while he listened, uninterested in what else the surrounding world had to offer. At last, the melody of the woods died away, and Derek awoke from the stupor. His gaze wasn't met by his companion though, but instead by a young girl who looked back at him with as much wonder as he returned.
The instrument she carried tucked beneath her chin would have given away her identity should she have not been preserved in time. Looking exactly like she had left him, Paige smiled sweetly, pulling her violin down away from her as if to remove the barrier between them. Derek was frozen, filled with guilt, or fear. It had been so long now, was it still possible the forest had brought her back too?
When she reached out for his hand, he gave it, letting her small fingers close around him. She didn't speak, only smile, as she pulled him away from Peter, and he followed willingly.
Finding Danny || Derek & Peter
A speculative glance was cast in the direction of his nephew. There was only the muted sounds of the forest to his ears, nothing in particular that reminisced the sound of music or humans save for their own breathing and heartbeat. “Yes, you hear music in the dark woods where there’s nobody else but us, and you decide to follow it. This is why you always end up almost dying, Derek,” Peter explained dryly. Nevertheless, he still extended his senses to the surrounding area while he followed the mesmerized wolf.
The forest seemed calm though; Peter couldn’t explain what his nephew could have been hearing. The silence stretched out for miles, curiously enough. It could have been the presence of the two wolves stalking through the forest or there was even the possibility of another creature off in the unspecified distance. Peter was certain that neither would of had any direct correlation to the missing kid though. Shame. He’d have to prove it to his stubborn family first before any attempt of leaving this quietly whispering forest was made.
Which was a development. Still no music though, despite what Derek would try and insist. Mere, soft sounds that reverberated through the twitchy limbs charged the ambience in an unexpected way. It was a soft wind of incomprehensible phonemes just subpar of his hearing. It was ultimately ignored at the moment to focus back on wherever his nephew was heading. “Is there a particular direction you’re heading, or are we going in circles chasing our metaphorical tail, because there’s really no point in wasting our time.”
