Man, I just finished reading JLA: Year One (1998) and it's so... interesting. I was aware of DC stuff peripherally for a lot of my childhood (was obsessed with Batman. but mostly the Lego video game for the Wii and the The Animated Series) My understanding was the the Trinity (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman) formed the Justice League, along with a few others (usually Flash, Green Lantern, and Aquaman, but I know Martian Manhunter is there in the animated show too)
I assume its that way in other versions, but it's very strange that they decided Post-Crisis Justice League should be formed by Black Canary, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Aquaman, and be funded by Oliver Queen (Green Arrow). Especially when Wonder Woman isn't even mentioned or shown at all. Batman appears a couple times, and has like one single line, and Superman only gets a scene or two.
My only thought is that they wanted to leave the Trinity as their own separate titles while trying out the Justice League (of America) as just hero group comic run to try and generate interest for some of the heroes outside of the big three. (Obviously they changed their minds, because I know later on, the Trinity is restored as the leaders of the JL and Batman as the funder)
I just wonder what they're gonna do with the plot point that basically ever single operating hero on earth got their identities compromised...

reading some old worlds finest comics and i noticed how much the characters changed over time
Batman's the one stargazing on roofs rambling on about his undying hope for the future. Batman is the one making adorably cheesy gestures to show how much he cares for Clark. Batman is the one making Clark coffee, the one promising to stay by his side no matter what, even when Clark pulls away. Batman is usually the one initiating effort to deepen their relationship, or at least deepen the understanding of the other (badly though, sorry Bruce, get better at words) Batman is the one asking to hear about Clark’s childhood and parents when he feels so terribly lonely. Batman is the one willing to lower his guard around him, willing to fall asleep or pass out in his arms, willing to get grabbed around by the scruff of his neck or swaddled up in Clark’s cape. Willing to let Clark see the worst in him because Clark will literally not judge, he will rationally look at the problem at hand and help Bruce in ways he knows will make him the most comfortable.
And then Superman is just midwestern apathy and built up rage and dread smothered with well practiced manners and slightly charming commentary and an undying love for human life. Superman is the one on his last fucking straw, except if he actually snaps then unlike Bruce his bones won’t break easy. Superman is the one who tends to see more of the negative side of things, at least regarding things in the long-run, but he uses Bruce to push himself to think positively. Do you know how insane that is. Superman. Using Batman, As a way to inspire himself to stay optimistic. In fact, that much hasn’t really changed.

"You gave the boy hope and snatch it away when he fell short of your considerable and unrealistic expectations."
BRUCE BENCHED DICK BECAUSE HE ALMOST DIED. HELLO??? Alfred is acting like Bruce told Dick he couldn't be Robin anymore because Robin failed a training exercise or disobeyed him or something. He was kidnapped and nearly beaten to death by Two-Face and Bruce watched it happen. Is it not a completely fucking reasonable response from an adult to bar a child from doing something so fucking dangerous when they almost died doing it? Literally what Alfred was worried about earlier, and warned Bruce against letting Dick be Robin, and then when it happens he's mad at Bruce?? Fuck you Pennyworth
This writing is so fucking dumb jesus
Especially with what happens years later with Jason...

okay i think i got it:
if your parents are dead, you're a robin
if your parents are alive, you're a batgirl
if It's Complicated, you can go do something else
If you're Damian Wayne you can do whatever you want.

I have a Superbat headcanon that’s very much inspired by the "cat my dad said he didn’t want" meme. But Damian’s version.
So, in this universe, Superbat has been established for a couple of years by the time Damian joins the family. All of Bruce's other kids adore Clark — they think he’s the best thing that ever happened to Bruce. But Damian? He refuses to accept “the alien” as his father’s partner. For the first month, he’s adamant about it, making it very clear he does not approve, and being very antagonistic towards Clark.
But one night, Bruce comes home late from patrol, and as he’s walking through the house, he passes the living room. There, on the sofa, is Clark fast asleep — and Damian, sound asleep on his chest. Bruce, of course, takes a picture and immediately sends it to the Batfam group chat.
Dick wastes no time replying with the quote: “The dad Damian said he didn’t want.”
And honestly? I think that’s adorable. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

I bet the JL has a “how fucked are we” metric that’s literally just how many of Bruce’s kids are there.
Like if he pulls up to the alien invasion or whatever with just Robin, then everything’s fine. More than fine, actually, because Bruce feels comfortable enough to bring his eight year old along for the ride. This battle will take approximately fifteen minutes and they’ll all get shawarma after. Not fucked in the slightest.
But if Red Robin shows up too… hmm, okay, this is getting somewhat serious. Tim is one of Bruce’s most trusted partners; he’s the smart Robin, the tactician, the loyal one, and so if Batman brought him along then it means he’s at least a little bit worried about shit hitting the fan and wants one his advisors around. But the combined brain power of Bruce and Tim is pretty much unmatched (DC plot armor for the win), so everything will be fine, basically. Superman might take a hit, but everything’s going to be fine. Just keep calm and you’ll all make it home in time to Door Dash some Panda Express before it closes. So not that fucked.
It starts to get serious after that. When Signal and Spoiler roll up the scene, shit has definitely hit the fan. Batman’s worried enough to call in reinforcements and he’s probably doubting the League’s ability to listen/obey his orders, so he needs a backup plan in case things go really south. But with Signal’s abilities and Steph’s superpower of turning anything into a joke, chances are you’ll be okay. Maybe impaled or something, but okay. But still, fucked.
When Nightwing shows, the JL knows it’s starting to get dicey out on the field. See, Nightwing’s got his own team, his own issues—the fact that he set that all aside to help out his dad is cause for concern. On a scale from 1-10, they are at a 7. Above moderately fucked.
And… oh God. Black Bat? Most of the time the JL doesn’t even see her, but once she makes herself known and starts fighting alongside her siblings, they all start to silently freak out. Black Bat is a fucking machine and if she’s breaking a sweat trying to fight the Big Bad, things are definitely not going to go well. They start praying that Batman figures something out. They freak out. They are intrinsically fucked.
But God Forbid you catch sight of the Red Hood. The prodigal son is a legitimate killer, and if Batman’s letting him blow out brains then the JL knows he’s desperate. And a desperate Batman is not good. At all. They are definitely fucked.
