The world is a dangerous place. Hazards occur naturally or otherwise on a daily basis, people fall through the cracks in society; it seems like the most that ‘kindness’ affords is the attention of those willing to take advantage of it. 

And this attention seems to be currently directed…at Yuu. 

Yuu is still young, likely no more than 12. In a world that seems to have it out for Yuu, the orphanage is maybe the last bastion of safety until The One comes walking through to officially make them a part of their family. But again, it’s been 12 years, so none can blame them if that hope is starting to wane.

Dire Crowley touts himself as a generous, benevolent caretaker; which is a funny way to say ‘Neglectful’ and ‘Exploitative’. Yuu doesn’t get a chance to find this out until after the whirlwind that was their adoption settles. The man seems to care more about appearances, and where his next hefty payout will come from. So then it falls on Yuu to keep the home looking presentable, Crowley looking generous, and the indentured servitude swept under the rug. 

Not all attention is bad, though. Unseen by human society, the Animal Kingdom keeps its eyes trained to lend a claw out to the vulnerable. The National Rescue Conglomerate, or NRC, are a group of animals from all across Twisted Wonderland who answer the call for help wherever they hear it. The Seven Delegates may not agree on everything, but the one thing they can agree on is that someone will answer a call of distress.

Malleus → Komodo Dragon with a reputation as fearsome as his fantasy counterpart

But even with their help, Yuu won’t be completely out of the woods. Crowley keeps a few ‘pets’ he’s willing to deploy to get them back:

Who might be the ones to help rescue Yuu from their situation, and what might happen from there? Will it be smooth sailing once out from under Crowley or will there be others out looking to get Yuu in their clutches? Would they try to return to their orphanage? Maybe their story ends in the joining of a family that actually has their interests in heart? Do they forgo humanity altogether and just live among the animals that so cared for them up until this point?

This AU was built with the immense patience and help of Squidwen. We offer it out to you all as a sort of ‘Follower Milestone’ gift for everyone, since I recently reached 700 folks following me. What we are offering in this AU is:

A chance for you all to throw your OCs in to see how they handle trouble in the form of a real-world animal. Be it through art, writing, roleplay with your friends, This post and AU is more or less a sandbox for folks to play around in!

I’ll be occasionally posting pics depending on what I see/find time to doodle. For reference FOR those doodles, below both Squidwen and I have found where each of our own OCs fit into this general world:

The prim, pale owner of the modeling agency Pearls of Ophenheim. DeVerre especially catches her eye. The girl has unusual silver hair and very pale skin; something that’ll cause a fuss and stir attention in magazines, she hopes. Heels, camera angles, and a ton of make-up, and no one will be able to tell that a child is working for her.

→ She has a pet albino python called Princess.

Honest John and Gidel

Just two, hardworking fellas on the look out for their next employee or circus act. Children make excellent workers, especially those who don’t have much. Yuu is especially of interest to them, given how dextrous they seem. Would they make a good trapeze artist? Or contortionist - given the right training? Or, heck, maybe they’d be happy to just do all the menial tasks around Playful Land, right?

Aadesh Sona and Mr Rajesh Khan (Trinket)

These gentlemen are vital when it comes to producing anything. Animal-testing is the aim of the game for these two, but at times, testing on animals can prove slow, and even a waste of time. Why test chemicals on rabbits and mice when you can just skip to human trials? And since DeVerre and Yuu have been “adopted” by Crowley, no one will stop to ask where they are.

→ Aadesh and Mr Khan as well have their own pets. Basil the Burmese Python being Aadesh's, and a tiger named Shakti. 

As for our own OCs, Eugenio and DeVerre do manage to escape from Crowley’s clutches; with the help of the orphanage cat: Verrick. He sensed something was off with Crowley the moment he stepped through the door. Fearing for the children’s safety, he calls a meeting with the NRC to discuss saving them.

Both of us hope you'll enjoy the premise and find a bit of fun coming up with little scenarios for your OCs to get into. I specifically want to say how grateful I am to have 700 of y'all following for TWST content or the like and I hope to offer more fun things in either interactions, chats, or lil doodles of our characters doing stuff. I esp. wanna thank Squidwen for the help in concocting this whole thing. It's been so much fun to RP with ya and look forward to writing even more UvU

Eira age 1-4: Eira and her dad didn't have much, but thanks to a kind Director, they had a home in the attic of an old theater. When she was really tiny, she was able to stay with her dad all day, but as she got older and more wiggly she had to stay behind. While her Dad worked in the theater and attempted to finish school, she had to stay in the attic. Her Dad would put on the radio for her and made a doll for her that they called "Honest Fellow". She would spend what felt like hours alone in the attic with just the radio and her doll for company. Her dad would try to come in as often as he could to check on her but when he wasnt there, it felt like eternity. He made this up to her by singing, dancing, and playing with her when he was there. Since she was mute and had no inclination to speak, her dad would teach her sign language and letters. He would get books from some of the older theater workers and read to her before bed. His voice was Eira's greatest comfort and the thing she would always search for when she was scared. It helped that he talked a lot and Eria was content to listen. In later years, she would find out that her dad relied on her as much on her those years, as she did on him.

THE NIGHT RAVEN COLLEGE POP MUSIC CLUB WANTS YOU!!!

Come join them in preparing for a day of music and fun on the NRC campus! Today, they're kicking off the Night Raven College Music Fest! Now recruiting musical acts, concessions workers, merchandise vendors, new Pop Music Club members, and most importantly, an AUDIENCE! Let’s all come together to make the first ever NRC MusicFest a rousing success. A big, multi-act outdoor music festival is a guaranteed way to kick the school year off right!

So - where do you come in? Here’s some activities folks can do for the event:

Short playlists of songs that characters will perform in their acts!

A fan event, starting on September 3! Our story begins with a summons from Headmage Crowley....

“I do suppose you’re all wondering why I called you in here.”

Headmage Crowley sat at his desk, his fingertips steepled beneath his chin as he smiled benignly at the small assemblage of students in front of him. Lilia Vanrouge. Cater Diamond. Kalim al-Asim. Ah, the bright, shining faces of youth! He lowered his hands to the desk. “As you all know, I am more than happy to be able to lend an ear to the distinguished students of Night Raven College, and I have called this meeting with you three to facilitate all of that. How beneficial and foresightful of me! What generous use of my very limited office hours!”

“.... is this about our club, Headmage?” Kalim asked, a bit hesitantly. “I thought that it might be that, since otherwise it would be really weird to have the three of us together here. Oh! Unless we’re all going to be getting an award! Do you think it might be for an award? I do like award ceremonies!! Maybe we can have a little parade first, and we can plan a feast, and—-”

“I’m certain it’s for the club, dear Kalim,” chuckled Lilia, holding up a hand to stop his excitable friend. He leaned forward, resting his chin in his hand. “Sadly, the school might not be able to plan an award ceremony of quite the scale you’d envision! The elephant budget’s already quite strained.”

Cater sighed. “Hashtag major bummer, that would have been so ‘cammable. So!” He straightened up in his seat. “What is it that the Pop Music Club can do for you, Headmage? Or is this about membership requirements again…?”

Crowley’s eyes flickered behind his mask. “Ah, Mr. Diamond, you wound me, even as you strike directly at the heart of the matter. Yes, just like the beginning of last year, your membership levels are still shockingly low! There must be some way to encourage participation in your group… and as such, I have the pleasure of presenting you with a magnificent idea, one that will both have potential new club members come to you in droves, and will also prove beneficial to the college. And its financial coffers!!”

“Knew it.” Cater turned to Lilia. “You owe me a can of juice.”

“We have an elephant budget?” Kalim squeaked.

“Of course, Kalim. Do keep up. What is this miraculous idea, Headmage?” Lilia raised an eyebrow suspiciously. “Not that I wouldn’t upend the entirety of Twisted Wonderland to protect our club. Our friendship, the time we spend together, is so very, very precious to me!”

“The idea is thus: our precious Pop Music Club would be in charge of setting up a campus-wide music festival! You can recruit acts from among the student body, set up a spectacular main stage and some less spectacular side stage areas, arrange for merchandise and concessions stands, and of course, be the final headlining act! It would be an excellent way to find new club candidates, and keep your numbers high enough so that poor dear Kalim won’t be left floundering and clubless next year when you two juniors leave for your mandatory fourth-year internships! Is it not the most brilliant and spectacular event you could possibly think of?”

“Yeah, pass.” Cater looked back at his phone.

“I’m inclined to agree. No, thank you, Headmage. That seems like such an undertaking.” Lilia stretched out his arms, and got ready to stand back up.

“But guys!!” Kalim turned to his upperclassmen, looking at them with huge, sparkling eyes. “It’s a festival. Just for us!! Wouldn’t that just be the most incredible thing? We’d even be stars for the day, and everyone can dance and party and be really happy that we made it all happen! I’m already excited about it!!”

“And I have already secured the technology to… what is it that is all the rage with the youth these days, the stream? We will be able to place it in the stream.” Crowley crossed his arms over his chest confidently. “Certainly, it will be a very popular draw; our sporting events are always well-received. But perhaps the arts are not so popular as athletics?”

Cater looked up. “... about how many views for those, Headmage?”

“They number in the millions.”

Cater took a deep breath. His leg bobbed up and down beneath the headmage’s desk. “Hmmmmmmm. And would we be able to attach our own personal online accounts to this stream?”

“Oh, naturally. Why, I would leave that in your hands, or the hands of whomever you decide to assign it to. I’m surely too busy for such a thing, and have no real knowledge of it, despite my years and years in academia.” Crowley tilted his head. “Surely you young, tech-savvy students would do just fine, though…”

“It does seem quite a lot to arrange, though. Isn’t it a lot for three students to be responsible for? Especially when we have so many other responsibilities and shining moments of youth to consider! We can’t be expected to lay all of those aside, can we?” Lilia said all of this with a straight face, but he turned to his fellow club members and gave them a subtle wink.

“But this is your chance to show what a powerhouse of organizational skills the Pop Music Club can be!” Crowley stood behind his desk, a hand on his chest. “Why, it would take a true master tactician to pull off such a feat. Gathering your volunteer forces, setting the goals, planning out each aspect to perfection, you’d—-”

Lilia laughed, interrupting the headmage’s monologue. “Oh, I just wanted to see you go into full dramatic mode. I think we’re all in.”

Kalim’s jaw dropped. “I thought you were against it?!?”

“Oh, not at all!” Lilia giggled into his hand. “I was ready to go ahead from the first word. I just wanted to have our wonderful, generous, erudite headmage really sell the idea to us.”

Crowley pursed his lips. “Well. In any case, gentlemen. I shall expect a show from you three that is truly worthy of Night Raven College and our longstanding dedication to the arts. And also, you need to increase your membership by a minimum of… let’s say thirty-three percent?”

Cater squinted for a moment. “Oh Em Seven. You just need us to get one more member?”

“At least one, yes.” Crowley nodded. “And make the arrangements for the music festival that we have on the campus schedule for some reason, of course.”

Before the others could react, Kalim jumped up out of his seat. “YAHOO! Of course we’ll do it! And we’ll make it shine! The best music festival that Night Raven College has ever had!!”

“THAT is the spirit I want to see from you boys!” Crowley smiled at Kalim. “Now, go prepare, boys, it won’t be long before the big day is here!”

“When is this big day, anyway, Headmage? Y’know, so I can announce the livestream to my followers and all…” Cater opened up Magicam, his thumb poised over the phone.

Crowley sat back down, poised. “A month from today.”

“A what?” Cater and Lilia spluttered together, while Kalim just nodded, bright-eyed as ever.

“A month, my dear students, from today. Thirty days.” He didn’t move, just kept smiling a smile that never quite reached those unsettlingly bright eyes. “Such a generous soul I am, to give you so much advance time! Now go, boys, and give the inaugural Night Raven MusicFest the gala treatment it deserves! Here, I had special shirts made for you. Have fun with it!!” He snapped his fingers, and three brightly-colored tie-dye tee shirts popped into existence on the desk in front of them. “I expect a progress report in a week. You’re dismissed, gentlemen!”

Trey stepped into the Heartslabyul kitchen, and he could already feel the headache starting to form behind his eyes. The room was filled with acrid smoke, and the dorm fire alarms were going off at full blast as Cater and Cater and Cater and Cater helped to evacuate the students from the area.

Riddle stood in the center of the chaos with his arms crossed, frowning. "That should have worked; baking the loaf at seven hundred degrees should have made it ready in half the time, not resulted in this mess, and I am certain my calculations were correct, as I wouldn't miscalculate such basic math..."

Trey's jaw dropped open, and all he could say was, "You did what?"

On the grand lawn of NRC stands a rickety old building that used to be abandoned until the day the mirror brought new students to liven its halls. Now under the care of Housewarden Cynthia Widow and Vice Grace Wilde, the abandoned dorm is being restored to its former glory! Ramshackle welcomes students of all walks into its halls and is excited to hear what stories they tell. The curious members of the Pumpkin King's Dorm are certainly a rowdy bunch, but they always make room for one more!

Notes and Rules on this Au Blog:

Night Raven is a COLLEGE, not a High School! So all characters are aged up 4 years - (16->20; 17->21; 18->22) so all OCs and Canon Characters are treated as such. I am willing to age down my Ocs for character interactions and participating in collabs and Aus so they can fit into the age range of other versions of the institution. (I am willing to work with others' comfortability and will have trigger warnings and summaries for works that deal with sensitive subjects and more college-age activities).

There are some changes to canon events in this AU since it has not 1, but 2 Yuu characters (Cynthia and Grace). The changes may be noted in bios, fics, and other things on the blog.

Some of my OCs have disabilities and are in different situations that may be difficult to read (Like many, I like to give some of my OCs Tragic backstories). I have researched these subjects and talked to different people about them so I can handle and portray them respectfully. I will provide trigger warnings when necessary and please be respectful.
