if the twins were 15-17 at time of incident, but you cut out the 500 year time gap, how old are the beans present time?

Oo- I’ve been trying to stick to the order of asks as they came in but this one is jumping the line!

This really ends up depending on what you mean by ‘present’

Currently the way they’ve been answering asks and how I tend to think about them, ‘present’ is probably right after Dream has emerged from the stone to a year after (mainly so he can actually answer asks)! That means Nightmare is 17 and Dreams is 15

But by the end of the story (which isn’t 100% solidified for how long that’d be) Night would probably be 19-21 meaning Dream’s age would range from 17-19 depending!

For all the other characters (that y’all have meet so far) which is just Killer and Ink (though the full lineup has another 3 important characters)

Killer is around a year younger than Night

Ink.. is complicated- physically he’s 15-16 and he tends to act somewhere near there. To put him simply : he can be naive with a lot of relatively standard things due to his often lack of experience but he knows a lot about what he does and is skilled at his craft (not trying to give too much away here) ‘Technically’ he’s been existing for roughly 9-10y which is around the time he left his AU.

Ok- so consider-

I’m writing a fic right now for my Dreamtale, Forgotten Apple! I just finished the chapter 1 but… I’m not sure where to go from here!!! I have 2 main options.

Option 1: The actual plot, showing the story of the Forgotten Apple Twins. Dream having emerged from stone believing NM is a monster. Lots of trauma, denial, and misunderstanding with also a lot or fluff, healing (recognizing previous trauma) and brotherly bonding! Less information about other characters besides just the twins though..

Or…

Option 2: Focusing almost entirely on how FA!Nightmare and FA!Killer met and how their relationship developed. Basically them both finding their footing in a multiverse that sees them as monsters, realizing they can only really trust each other. Plus it might talk about FA!Ink’s story which I’ll leave up for guesses :)

I’m leaning towards Option 2 currently but not super sure about it…

What are the forgotten apple twins ideal types of places to be?

Didn’t really wanna draw this since backgrounds are the absolute bane of my existence but

Both of them would like to be back together, under their tree. But- since that’s not possible :

Nightmare tends to prefer being alone, in quiet, serine places. He loves the rain, or a quiet stream flowing in the background. Or, he likes being at home with Killer and eventually the gang

Dream on the other hand tends to prefer fun places with a bunch of people to hang out with!!! Multiversal travel hubs tend to be where you’ll find him. So verses that have a lot of foot traffic! If he is going to just be outside probably a sunny valley or clearing. Though Ink is usually quick to drag him of somewhere random

can we see Dream react after realising Night is set on his own Path, no longer his "old" Brothr??

Uh- to put it simply,

Dream wouldn’t.

Everything NM does that is different from how he used to be is seen as his corruption- a monster- evil. Whilst everything in character for ‘Passive’ would be seen as his true brother shining through and fighting against it.

At his core Dream does know that Nightmare will not change. But, he’s basically just in absolute delulu land levels of denial about the situation, haha /hj But actually- Dream’s just hopeful. He always has been and always will be ^^

There might be one things that could change his mind though.. to see what’s there for once.

Ehehhe yeah erm- the way I’m resisting the urges to write him with a continuously more southern accent

Even on the last ask I was almost gonna have him say something along the lines of ‘hun’ or smth like that- like in the way the nice old southern ladies would call ya’ sugar, baby, hun, etc. :)

If that makes sense??? That might not make sense-

It’s a stupid little headcannon but since he’s my character it’s basically just cannon atp 💀

Uh- and on that note Dreamy would also have a slight southern accent! Though probably a bit less noticeable, at least slang wise… don’t really see him having a super thick accent in any direction.

He would probably say things in an ever so slightly southern way with little to no southern slang whilst night on the other hand NM just has a light southern accent and uses a decent hand-full of southern slang

But really that wouldn’t make much sense since Dream would actually interact with more of the villagers and therefore use more of their slang and such?? I suppose?? But uh- DOESNT MATTER DONT THINK ABOUT IT

I’ll make an excuse that like- idk- Dream used to have a thick southern accent that NM picked up from him but after they entered the Multiverse jaundice here ended up switching up to whatever’s most around him since he talks to a lot of other people while Nightmare on the other hand only really talks to Killer and later on the rest of the gang so his accent set in before he started talking to many people?

Yeah- yup, that’s cannon now-

I just wrote this out of nowhere and it’s cannon now.

Originally NM was gonna be really withdrawn and mistrusting, quiet and often uncaring to those outside his close personal group.

And he’s still all of those in a way but now he’s much more cold but warms up relatively quickly in comparison (unless he senses ulterior motives / bad intentions from someone) whilst still being somewhat withdrawn he’s actually very careful not to upset people unintentionally and is a paranoid level of apologetic- sigh yet another sign of his abuse from villagers- and he’s pretty protective, though he’s always been that way in writing!

He’s.. more sympathetic

Anyway

fun fact : The little moonberry here has never seen the ocean! He’s read an awful lot about a lot of things but he’s never seen an ocean or a sea turtle but he’s always wanted to- specially he wanted to see turtles and moon jellies more then anything! Funny you managed to choose an animal he likes :)

Also what was their relationship when dream got out of stone

Somewhat of an extension of the last one!

But Dream wasn’t in stone for very long :)

Their relationship upon meeting post apple incident was… jarring. At least compared to how they were before. They’d been annoyed with about stuff but now they were annoyed about each other.. if that makes sense.

Immediately post apple incident Nightmare wanted to be with his brother. He really did. He wanted things to go back to normal, but away from the villagers. Though, very quickly came to realize that his brother… changed. He saw him differently.

And Nightmare started being uncomfortable around him

What is Dream and Nightmare's relationship like in this universe?

To say the least,

Their relationship is strained.

They both have an extremely deep care for each other. Yet at one level or another they both hate each other.

More in depth below the cut!!

Slight TW for manipulation/abuse- if you don’t wanna read it it’ll be highlighted (dw it’s only like 1 long sentence)

Nightmare doesn’t fully blame dream for the apple incident. And he doesn’t entirely blame him for not helping guard the apples.

He’s aware that Guarding is something that comes from protection. Protection often comes from fear. Fear’s not a positive emotion, it’s not really in Dream, not as much at least.

He wishes that Dream was at least aware; He sees him as somewhat immature, only seeing the things he wants to see. Only seeing a monster when his brother is right there in-front of him. But he does have some pity for what had happened to make Dream believe these things, he still thinks it was preventable and in part due to his ignorance.

But a one word description of Nightmare’s feelings when they’re around would just be uncomfortable.

Because Dream does downright make him uncomfortable. He calls him a monster yet begs him to be his brother again (which he never stopped being of course). He tries telling all these stories from when they’re young that 90% of Nightmare has little to no memory of. He tries to fight him constantly but pleads for hugs and affection too.

Nightmare is simply trying to keep the balance and Dream is forcing a large gap between positivity and negativity. Nightmare actually already allows a tilt to positivity, so Dream is really pushing it. That’s why Nightmare dislikes him.

But moving on to Dream’s feelings on Nightmare.

Simply, Dream sees him now as a monster. I’ve said this before so it’s not particularly new, but, never really mentioned why as in depth as I wanted so yeah:

He was the spoiled child of the whole village, but he didn’t really like it. He wanted his brother to have the same treatment- if not better! (cough cough Gold and Silver detailing cough)

Still, the villagers continued to spoil him. They manipulated him giving and taking affection, gifts, or even basic resources upon mention of Negativity and Positivity both being equal and how it’s all really a cycle. It ended up working. Dream did see positivity as better. A true balance was an imbalance. Though he never took the beliefs as far as the villagers with all positive no negative.

Nightmare saw who they were. Dream never believed him.

But during the apple incident dream heard the commotion, felt the commotion even, and sprinted to help. But as be approached he saw Nightmare eating the apples and the villagers clambering to the tree. Suddenly Dream woke up (after being turned to stone for a bit) so effectively the info Dream was working with was Nightmare was eating apples, there are no more apples, the villagers are dead, the tree is dead. So he logically connects Nightmare ate all the apples, killed the villagers and probably the tree. Normal Nightmare wouldn’t do that, he must be corrupted. This is absolutely wrong, but anything Nightmare says against this tends to be taken as deception from the corruption.

This is more so a drawing of their first hug post Apple incident, it’d been a while since NM got a hug from Dream. But he… really needed it

He won’t shove him off. He’ll just sit. And wait. Maybe even hug back eventually.

I’d imagine this would end when NM eventually does slip away because Dream starts trying to get ‘his brother’ back.

But ofc, NM always has been his brother, that never changed. And NM still deeply cares for Dream so that really hurts. Dream sees who he is now as a monster. But really? This is just Night finally being able to be what he was meant to be and who he wanted to be.

No more hiding.

He’s doing his job, keeping the balance. Spreading Negativity. Even then he still lets a slight imbalance towards Positivity. But he knows it’s important.
