**Queer Liberation March 06-27-21** Last Sunday I spent the day at the Queer Liberation March with my oldest child. This isn't the corporate sponsored Pride event you might have seen on TV, pre-pandemic. It's the grassroots one, that's meant to be a return to the protest centered roots of the modern queer rights movement. Thousands of people came out in the summer heat and made their presence felt. They marched and shouted. They danced and sang. They mourned for those lost, while renewing vows to fight for the living. My oldest and I had a great time. I'm proud of them for coming with me to this event. This year's #QueerLiberationMarch had more of a celebratory vibe than the 2020 event I attended. Even so, there was still plenty of folks out at the March letting people know that the fight for justice continues. So my challenge to you all is this: even though #PrideMonth is over, please continue to support and push for the civil rights of LGBTQIA+ folks. Let's build communities where we can all feel respected and safe. There is space for us all. There is enough for us all. Content Warning: the video contains images related to police violence. May 25, 2021 marks the one year anniversary of George Floyd's murder by the police. George Floyd's murder left his family and community emptier. In 2020 it also prompted a wave of global protests that continue to this day. Over the past year I've had the opportunity to bear witness, as a photographer, to history in the making. Sadly, I've seen plenty of cruelty and indifference against marginalized people. Yet, I've seen people from different walks of life unite to fight against police violence, homophobia/transphobia, and other injustices. I've observed people come together and form mutual aid groups to address food insecurity, bail people out of jail, as well as create spaces for healing and joy. In the midst of so much pain, rage, and grief, I saw people engaged in, as John Lewis would say, "good trouble." I created this video as a reminder to myself that, even when it seems like the problems of the world are too big, that there is value in the fight itself. So that's what I'll continue to do. I hope it can inspire you to be a part of the solution as well. RIP George Floyd. May justice and peace come for all those harmed or being harmed by cruel individuals and institutions, whether here or around the world. Hey everyone, I'm excited to announce that I will be part of a group photography show!  Starting this Saturday, May 22, 2021, my work, along with other talented photographers, will be on display at the Bronx River Art Center (BRAC). It's through the collective Capture The Movement. You may be familiar with CTM, as they've hosted a number of great events in 2020. The aim of Capture The Movement is, to paraphrase their website, "spotlight & amplify the work of Black Photographers covering the Black Lives Matter Movement." The opening reception for 'In Honor of Black Lives Matter' is Saturday, May 22nd. The bad news is that COVID restrictions are still in place, so there will be a limited number of people allowed in. Recently a number of institutions here in New York City are seeking to displace community groups that have worked tirelessly to promote engagement and education around land use, as well as sustainable gardening/farming practices. The James Baldwin Outdoor Learning Center (JBOLC) is one such group. After 12 years of existence, JBOLC has been unfairly evicted by the Dewitt Clinton Campus Council (DWCCC). Now they've chosen to engage in direct action so that the powers-that-be can reconsider their decision. On Saturday, May 15th they held a rally to make their point. Several dozen participants showed up in solidarity. Please sign the petition (link in bio) to let DWCCC know that evicting JBOLC was unacceptable, and to immediately reinstate JBOLC as the rightful stewards of this garden space. For those that know me, I struggle with making videos of my work. Some of this is because I think in still images, not moving ones. That's why I'm a photographer! Another reason is that making a video is, while similar to photos, still much different. I have a lot of respect for videographers, YouTubers, and other creative folks that are good at this. I'm still learning! Lastly, I think my stumbling block is that I overthink it. I'm too anxious about making mistakes. I'm not having fun. I need to change that. I'm going to work on being more "loose" with my videos. Here's my first attempt. I literally edited this on my phone on my way to work. It's a roughly 20-second sketch, no more or less. And that's fine! While a little frustrating (I used an app I'm not familiar with), it was still fun. I'm happy with how it came out. What do you think? **Etsy Shop Update** Back in January I offered select individuals a chance to purchase postcards that I made of some of my images. Thank you to everyone that bought some! They proved to be popular and so I've decided to offer them in my #Etsy shop. In addition, I'm also offering each individual image as a photo print. Now you have the option to send a message to a loved one, AND have a beautiful image to hang on your wall.  The price points for both the postcards and prints are inline with what I normally charge.
