Comedy Blog- Youtube Recommendations- Vipul Goyal
Vipul Goyal is one of the most underrated Indian comedians. He is the man next door. Not many comedians in India can carry on for an hour without a single vulgar or double meaning joke but Vipul. His comedy is clean and for the entire family.
If you take a look at the topics that he chooses for comedy, they seem to be day to day and very real. But the way he treats those topics is where he does the magic. He treats them in the most uncommon way, making day to day things funnier than anyone could have anticipated them to be. His common man appearance makes him look even more honest when he talks. This was quite evident when he did the humorously yours web series with TVF- The Viral Fever.
The web series showcased the journey of a comedian and how hard the struggle is when it comes to the comedy scene. It also narrated that a comedian's hard work mostly remains behind the curtain and not many people actually get to know about it. His latest video narrates a household story, the story of Saas and Bahu. His take is on how mothers in law tend to be controlling when it comes to their daughters in law and how in today's world a "Bahu" can retaliate back to the Saas. The set is hilarious and is something that can be shared with your parents and family.
The second topic that he covers is the behaviour of Indian people on the internet. And we all know that Indians can act audaciously when it comes to online communication. The topic once again comes from the day to day life but what matters is how Vipul treats the topic and takes it to a level beyond imagination.
His approach on stage is very different and that is where he steals the show. My favourite joke from the video is "Ghaziabad mein itni electricity jaati hai ki electric guitar bhi generator pe bajate hain"
It is a ten-minute long video and doesn't bore at all. So if you haven't watched the video then here's the link:

Speical Youtube Picks- Trash Jokes-4, Ghatia Comedy by Abhishek Upmanyu
India's favourite comedian Abhishek Upmanyu recently released a new video recently titled Trash Jokes-4, 'ghatia' jokes by Abhishek Upmanyu. Abhishek is known for his different and unorthodox style of comedy. He tends to make you laugh by saying stuff one could never imagine. Abhishek Upmanyu can be described as the boy next door but his style of comedy is from the next planet perhaps.
The video might be titled Trash or Ghatia but the jokes are not at all Trash, they are one of the best jokes of the comedian. I have seen the bit live a lot of times but the bit was still successful in making me laugh. He talks about some common topics like names and pigeons.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvaSxI7PkKg
Now we all know that 'Abhishek' is a very common name in India, it is so common that you can scream Abhishek and fifty people will turn around to answer the call. Upmanyu plays on the very same fact that his name is common. But the way he delivers the punch line is something we could not have imagined. The audience interaction is of different level and adds on to the already hilarious set.
Upmanyu has been known for his famous Mumbai vs Delhi jokes and in this video, he talks about the pigeon problem in Mumbai and how te lack of space makes it difficult for him to find a perfect spot for car parking.
In short, this video provides you with eight minutes of hilarious jokes which you will surely share with your friends and family. This video is perfect for boring Metro rides or Local rides (if you are in Mumbai, cause tumhari metri kitni piddu si hai).
Abhishek Upmanyu has released three more videos previous to this video titled as Trash Jokes only. You surely have to check out all of them. Just think of it, if this is trash then what would be gold?
Other than what you can check out Abhishek Upmanyu's other videos too. His video related to marriage and Indian English too is a hilarious one and deals with how Indian seriously Indian parents take the concept of marriage. Upmanyu also narrates his experience with how Indians speak English and how hilarious new slangs and jargons can get.
One more of his videos related to the infamous Crime Patrol is a good choice too. Here he talks about his addiction to the famous Indian true-crime series 'Crime Patrol' and the observation he made while binge-watching the show, which we all can relate to.
So, Abhishek Upmanyu's trash jokes are our recommendation for you and keep checking for some more updates. Indian stand up comedy scene is full of talented comedians doing their best out there.

Why Biswa Kalyan Raths's "SUSHI" Is Something Indian Comedy Has Never Seen?
Biswa Kalyan Rath, there is a reason that he is known as one of the best comedians out there. An artist par excellence. His first stand up comedy special was released back in 2017 titled as "Biswa Mast Admi" which was much appreciated. After performing all around the country, Biswa finally came out with his new one-hour of jokes titles as "Sushi".
Why "SUSHI"?
Sushi comprises of a lot of elements that make the Japanese delicacy what it is. And so is Biswa's new comedy special. The special comprises of a lot many elements that make the show the treat it is. The explanation is given at the start of the show by Biswa himself.
What's in "SUSHI"?
Sushi has everything. Sushi is the perfect Indian special. Everything that is relatable but has never been pointed out is in the special. This is Biswa's speciality, he talks about stuff we all know but never gave much thought about it.
The first half an hour he talks about fans, table fans, telephone connections and the way Indians react to all these things. These basic daily life things have been described and observed by Biswa in a hilarious way.
The manholes and manhole covers. Footpaths and their dimensions and tea stalls. How Indians are perceived in foreign countries and a solution to certain issues.
Biswa tells how the only way to happiness is bitching and also explains the way people talk behind. The last half-hour is the funniest bit that we have ever seen.
The last half-hour is about his own mother and how she doesn't understand a lot of basic things. That is pretty relatable and we all surely will be reminded of our own mothers' and their confusing shenanigans. The daily issues of an Indian house-hold and way the Indian kids handle them is best described in this show.
The special gets at its high point during the last ten minutes, till then the audience is already clutching at their stomachs, laughing like hell not knowing that the best is yet to come. Biswa describes the bank his father works in which gets you off your couches and the jokes in this portion are of next level.
We suggest you go and watch this comedy special and understand why Biswa is one of the best comedians out there. The comedy special is available on amazon prime videos. If you have not watched his first special then you can check that one out too.
Hurry up! Nahi to laptop phatega aur Biswa niklega!

Harsh Gujral- The guy we all know!
In the past few weeks, a couple of videos have been doing quite well on YouTube. These videos feature comedian Harsh Gujral. There are certain things that we noticed about this exceptionally talented comedian and anyone who has seen his performance is aware of the fact that Harsh is the perfect boy next door. You know him, you can relate to him and you are him.
We have all been through the phase where our mothers were busy mourning Mihir Virani. Ekta Kapoor has given us enough memories to wonder what the hell did we watch as children and what sort of nostalgia "Rishton ke bhi roop badalte hain, naye naye saanche mein dhalte hain, ik peedhi aati hai ik peedhi jaati hai banke kahani naiiiiiii, kyunki saas bhi kabhi bahu thiiii" can give us.
His set about Indian daily soaps and the way our mothers reacted to it was so simple yet relatable and funny. I was laughing all the time and the best part of it is that my mother loved it too. As an open micer myself I know the feeling when your parents appreciate the art form you are trying to learn and thanks Harsh for making that happen.
Harsh's energy was commendable and so was his narrative. There was no complexity to it. Just a simple Indian boy and his struggles and that also in a very different way. The true essence of our country could be seen in it. Harsh is an MBA graduate and is currently working so it is very understandable that he has a perspective about the struggles of getting a degree and coping with the pressure of life while living in havoc called India.
His 10 minutes long videos take you through a journey that we have all lived.
Now let us talk about his video related to Indian weddings and the sort of humour he presented us with. Weddings are an entirely different universe in the Indian subcontinent and Harsh's quirky observations about them leave you in giggles. You have to watch before I say anything else. Do check our Mr. Harsh Gujral on YouTube and tell us what you feel about this guy next door.

Is Dave Chappelle's New Special Offensive?
Well, a centrist like me was laughing like hell and at the same time thinking OH MY GOD THIS IS SO DAMN OFFENSIVE, I SHOULD NOT BE LAUGHING ON THIS. But I was laughing and I was laughing really hard. The question is "Who defined what comedy is all about?". Yes, which one of us actually got up and said no comedy should not be about this and it should be about that. Who decided that for us and why should every comedian fall into that definition and if he/she does not fall into that definition then who are we to categorize him as offensive or bad or ignorant or all the bad words in the dictionary.
His style was orthodox but funny. I mean very funny. He made a joke about suicide and I was laughing at it. It is not like I have not seen dark comedy but this was not dark or light it was just outright funny. Yes, funny is the word. The only category I can think for this special is funny. Yes, offensive for some, ignorant and insensitive for others but no matter what it was funny.
Ironically a black man talking like that would have been a little difficult for the pseudo-liberals to digest but it would be funny to see what do they protest against, Chappelle, for writing such jokes or society for telling Chappelle to shut-up.
You have to watch the special for yourself to judge. Yes, at times it gets insensitive and you wonder if Chappelle was in his right mind before saying that all loud on stage but in the end, you realize that all he wanted to do was make us laugh and nothing more. So, do watch it. It is named "Sticks and Stones" and is on Netflix.

Are Comedians Attention Seekers?
Well, maybe I am wrong or maybe I am right but it is true. Comedians are attention seekers.
For instance, it is my biggest dream to make people laugh and be a shining ray of sun in their life, you know to be the saviour. In short, I so wanna be that Jesus who tells jokes. The messiah or hero or whatever suitable synonym. The intention is not bad but that intention comes with an urge to get attention.
If a comedian says, "No, I don't want attention", he/she is a big-time liar. I mean come on, man you want to stand at the centre of the stage and want everyone to listen to what you think is funny and then clap after it and wonder how amazing you are. That is attention-seeking.
There is nothing wrong with that either. I mean if you are funny and people enjoy your jokes then you deserve that attention. You surely do.
Nothing is better than getting applause after you are done with your bickering and the best part is that material is the way you vent out your frustration on people. It could be a white lie or sometimes it could be the truest story from your life. And who wouldn't love it? Getting a bunch of people to agree to what you say.
Being a comedian is tough and crazy and also stupid, it is harder than ant other jobs out there but I would still do it because of the attention and applause.

The Diary of A Female Comedian
So P.V. Sindhu became the world champion, India won the first test match against West Indies and Ben Stoke's saved the day for England. It was an interesting week for sports and me. I am very happy with all these achievements of such amazing sports personalities but am sad because I could not write a single joke this week.
College is going great, I am surviving on just coffee and some faculty member will surely end up killing me before the end of this semester and on the top of it, I have a research project to do. Do you know what is the topic of my research? Even I don't remember let me ask my teacher and fellow research students. See I told you everything is amazing!
Coffee is all that I have had in the last 24 hours. But I used Nestle ka mehnga vala milk so I do take care of my health.
I had an open mic last night and I bombed badly that means that no one laughed on my jokes. I just told myself that the audience must be dumb. My teacher told me that she can't tolerate me in class at times and I haven't read a single book in the past 3 weeks. In short sab badhia hai aap bato kaisey ho.
I have exams in 2 weeks and haven't prepared shit for it and I am in the writing team of an elaborate musical play for my college fest and haven't written a word. I am amazing what about you?
See everything is good because my Instagram is perfect.

The Diary of a Female Comedian
It has been 2 years in the comedy industry and I won't say that it was all bad. It was great, to be honest. I got a lot of appreciation and comedy is the best thing to boost your ego.
There are certain other things when it comes to stand-up comedy which can be a little overwhelming and the fact that I am a woman in comedy is one of them.
It is not easy being a woman in comedy. People have still not accepted the fact that women can be funny. The challenge starts even before you get to the stage and somehow you have to work way more on yourself just to cope with the pressure that is put on you.
But you know what it has been fantastic too. The journey overall has been way too amazing. The look on everyone's face when you are killing it is priceless. The moment I understood that people get intimidated by me, that was the moment I deliberately started intimidating them.
I have a different perspective for the stage, the fact that something ordinary of my life could be an extraordinary thing for the audience makes me live it a little better.
In the end, it is the laughter that matters and laughter have no gender either do jokes.
I keep my head held high and keep on trying what is funny out there. With that daily hope of filling up a 2000-seater auditorium, I continue to write about my weird life.

Why everyone should watch Daniel Sloss' "DARK"?
Daniel Sloss is a well known Scottish comedian with a weird sense of humour which is definitely a little weird. The comedian has his two specials on Netflix- "Dark" and "Jigsaw". Today we will be talking about "Dark". It is the first in the series and is a must-watch stand up comedy special for all comedy lovers out there. It does not matter if you are fond of international comedy or not because "Dark" is not just a comedy special, it is a life lesson in itself.
First of all, let me be clear, the special deals with death. Death, in itself, is an incident which leaves most of us silent. We tend to avoid discussing it, well not the Millenials I guess cause they all want to die. But let us all be honest, how well do we take the news of someone's death. There were people who were mourning Osama. So yes, no matter whose death it is, death will always be way too dark for all us to discuss it.
This what Sloss does. He makes death easy for us to accept. More than that he makes death something we can laugh at. Do not get me wrong here but the way he weaves an entire story which actually makes the viewers comfortable about the idea of someone's demise is applause-worthy. And when one actually watches the show and goes through the entire experience Sloss is trying to portray as such is beautiful. There are some silent moments in the act but they are not because of sadness or hopelessness as such but because of the fact how intelligently Sloss made us all change their perspective about someone's demise. The best thing is, that it is not at all insulting for the loved ones that have passed away but contrary to it, it is quite respectful to their memory, Sloss teaches us how we can make the most of the what we remember about them and move on with our lives. Because no matter what, we all still have a life to live and surely our loved ones would have wanted us to be as happy as possible.
For me, Dark was an experience. I am not going to say that suddenly I am okay with the idea of it and it does not bother me anymore. But it is just a new perspective to accept reality. If you have not watched "Dark" then surely do it and trust me it is hilarious and you will enjoy it.

A Prolific Performer or a Genius Joke Writer
What do you want to be as a comic? Do you want to tell spectacular stories or do you want to blow away people’s brains like a bullet travelling with a muzzle velocity 900m/s? Is there a destination of a comic or is a comedian extension of who he is as a person? So many questions and no perfect answers but let’s explore everything together.
A storyteller needs to be an excellent performer so that he can convey those little nuances with ease and develop a connect with his audiences; a good performer feels everything to the fullest so that he can communicate those feelings to his audience. On the other hand, a great joke writer astonishes everyone with his clever one-liner and unthinkable punch lines; he garners a lot of respect because of his witticism and intelligence. They both have followed a different path to make that connection with the audience but ultimately everything boils down the relationship a comic develops with the audience. It’s tempting when you hear someone like Mitch Hedge berg and go on a writing spree of clever one-liners or when you see the great Bill Burr doing his helicopter bit, it just leaves you wondering that how far standup comedy could go. But one needs to understand that they never vehemently tried to become those people, they were those people since the time they came on this planet, the point that I am trying to make here is that you don’t need to force yourself in a certain direction and try to become something that you are not.
Stephen Fry the famous British comedian and actor wrote in his book that “One of the best things any performer on stage can do on stage whether standup comic, ballet dancer, torch singer, character actor or tragedian, is to relax an audience. To let them know that everything is going to all right and they can lean back in their seats happy in the knowledge that the evening won’t be a disaster. Of course, another of the best things a performer can do is provoke a feeling of excitement, danger, unpredictability, and instability. To let the audience know that the evening might fail at any moment and they need to lean forward in their seats and watch intently. If you can manage both at once then you are really something.” Taking a leaf out of Fry’s book why can’t a comic be both a great performer and a brilliant writer. George Carlin used to call himself “a writer who knows how to perform his material” and there are a quite a few greats like Chappelle, Seinfeld, and more who were able to bring best of both the worlds in a package so mesmerizing that the world can’t seem to get enough of them. They said the smartest of things and performed like a rock star with memorable monologues and had super-intelligent punches that’ll be etched in our memories forever.
In comedy, you try to make people understand things that you don’t understand about the world and society, and to do this it’s better to use every weapon in your armory. No one is stopping you to tell your jokes the way you want to, just tell those jokes exactly the way it’s in your head and if you can do that you are a good performer, period. If absurdity is your thing there is always a place for that in standup comedy. In conclusion, I would say that you’ll be a prolific performer or a genius joke writer, if you are that person inherently, you don’t HAVE to become anything, you gradually become whatever you naturally are. Honesty is comedy’s best friend and a comic’s lifelong companion. So always be you, not the best or worst version of you, just you and the rest will follow.

5 Things That Every Open Micer Must Know Before Their First Open Mic
With Standup Comedy becoming a legitimate career choice in India, many young and old comedy aspirants will try their hand at comedy and light up the stage with their exuberance but all seldom goes as we plan, especially when it comes to standup comedy.
One of the greatest comics to ever get on stage Norm Macdonald once said “If you tell a joke and no one laughs, it’s funny” and the standup legend had his reasons. Here are a few tips for virgin open micers which might come in handy when the nerves are high and heart is beating so fast as if there is no tomorrow.
Write a few jokes
Don’t forget to write a few jokes or at least note down the things that you feel are funny. You have to write a few jokes before getting on stage for the first time. You don’t know anything about being on stage and more often than not brain stops responding so knowing things you are about to say is a very secure feeling.
Yes, you’ll Bomb
Be ready for one of the most soul-crushing and humiliating experience where you feel like turning into an ostrich and burying your head under the ground, this phenomenon is called bombing and it’ll happen more than anything that has happened in your life so far hence make yourself familiar with this term, it’s going to be a part of your life from now on. But you know what there will be another day, another open mic and you might suck in the second one even more than the first time. This is natural and happens to every comic, so chill, trust the process and enjoy your time on stage.
Take care of the TIME
Comedians talk in minutes, so every second you spend on stage is crucial. Be very diligent with your timings reach the venue on time, don’t overstay your welcome and get down as soon as your 4-5 minute slot is over. Don’t try to run away if you didn’t do well. Stay there for the whole show and interact with everyone around.
Be who you are
Being an honest person on stage adds different dimensions to your onstage persona. It might be very tempting to be and act like a certain comic whom you love but get over these temptations and explore the deepest and darkest corners of your soul. Just remember that if you become like everyone else then who’ll become like you.
Talk to other comics
Believe it or not, stand up comics are one of the most helpful souls you’ll come across since most of them had the same issue they will truly understand a first-time open micer. Don’t hog them with your life story; keep your questions short and to the point. Take care of time, come back from stage when your 4-5 minutes are up, there always be another open mic.
Standup Comedy is a skill that you need to hone. If you call something “art” then understand that you won’t become an incredible artist overnight. Be humble, have patience and avoid any kind of unrealistic expectation, just make sure that your first mic is not your last. Visit Comedy Munch to get updated with upcoming events for open mic in Delhi NCR.
