I have begun to experiment with minimal-waste sewing. To me this means what i can make out of rectangles, squares and triangles.

To the people that are afraid to cosplay:
You are not too skinny You are not too fat You are not too pale You are not too dark You can’t sew? Buy it! You can’t afford it? Look up Closet Cosplays.
Anyone can cosplay. Screw the haters! Don’t do it for other people. Do it for yourself. Have fun and be yourself. Always remember that there’s someone just like you out there that is just getting started. Join cosplay groups on Facebook and ask questions! Don’t be afraid.
Once I really started getting into cosplay I knew for a fact I HAD to be Sailor Moon. Growing up as a kid, she was my inspiration! It was my first Anime and has always been my favorite. That was my reason for doing it.
I’ll admit I did not make the costume. I purchased it from a site called Milanoo.com. It was a nice bundle that came with suit, broach, and tiara. I bought the hair feathers and red circles from Etsy. Boots from AliExpress. Wand from a booth in the dealers room at Anime Weekend Atlanta. Wig from Amazon.
I just love that people literally yelled out “Princess Sailor Moon!” Or “Usagi!” To get my attention for photos! Parents wanted me to pose with their children because like us, Sailor Moon was one of their first Anime for their kids to watch. (Parenting done right lol) I kept getting stopped by people who loved and grew up with older and classic Anime and they shared stories with me. It was so amazing. I got an overwhelming response from the Black cosplay community too. Apparently at the time people hadn’t seen alot of Black Sailor Moon cosplayers.
Cosplay has impacted my life in many ways! It’s like an escape from reality. I don’t vacation much so going to Anime conventions and cosplaying is like a mini vacations for me. Cosplay makes me feel complete. The feeling of putting a smile on someone’s face when they ask for a photo is amazing! I also enjoy being an inspiration in the Black community. I’ve met so many people of color that have told me they have always wanted to cosplay but are afraid to due to Racism or backlash. They say I inspire them to get out there and do it! Spread love not hate. ;)

First project I’ve done for a while - draping a cape!
You know those times where you second guess your plan of attack, thusly attempt making the same thing three different ways before going back to your initial plan and realize once again you should stick to those fabulous instincts you have? Yes, this project in an overly vocabularized nut shell.

Progress and reference shots from Bernadette’s costume from Death Vigil.
Bodice is a corset with hidden busk, no lacing. Used Heat N Bond for the boot covers so I could just cut the shapes out.
And some hand embroidery, just to finish it off. I really enjoyed this project.
