Alright, that's a completely fair argument. I didn't realize I was doing that, thank you for your criticism. Despite my personal beliefs, I'll try to dig my feet out of the mud and work harder on trying to remove the metaphorical gun rather than getting rid of the bullets. I'll try to ignore these arguments for now, at least until the danger that the community is in is at a trivial level. Again, thank you for your criticism and arguments, I appreciate it.
Men can not be lesbians. Including trans men.
I'm going to bullet point a few reasons why to make it easier to read, so js stay with me
* Trans men are real men. If you say that a trans man can be a lesbian while a cis man can't, you don't hold their identities as equal
* Men claiming to be lesbians is harmful to the community. Lesbians already deal with harassment from straight men, who say that they can "fix them" or that they "haven't found the right man yet". If we allow men to call themselves lesbians, it loses its meaning and makes it seem like that someone's love life and identity is nothing more than slang.
* Trans men already have to deal with transphobia and being told that they will "never be a man" or that they will "always be a woman". If we allow them to use a term that is specifically meant for anyone that isn't a man, it undermines their own identity and harms the trans community.
* The definition of "lesbian" is non-men loving non-men. The only situation where a man could call himself a lesbian is if he is genderfluid or multigender in some way.
* I really shouldn't have to add this one in, but you can be a he/him lesbian. Gender ≠ pronouns.
Other terms that can be used by men (or anyone, really) are:
* Neptunic (when someone is attracted to anyone who isn't a man. This label can be used by anyone regardless of gender. xlnm)
* Pomosexual or Pomoromantic (an undefined attraction to others, when one's attraction doesn't necessarily fit under any label.)
* Polysexual or Polyromantic (polysexuality is defined as being attracted to two or more genders, and it is never stated that those genders have to be both man and woman)
Or just call yourself queer, that's that.
Here are a few arguments I've seen online, I'm gonna be breaking them down.
Argument one: "Trans men that used to identify as lesbians should still be allowed in the lesbian community!"
I've seen another trans person online come to the defense of men calling themselves lesbians. She claimed that "if you had cancer and were once in a cancer support group, you shouldn't be forced to leave that group."
1. Comparing being queer to having cancer, great.
2. This argument makes sense in some way, but is still very flawed. Obviously, if you beat cancer, that is a large milestone, and you should one hundred percent be proud of that. You can still be in those support groups to help other people, but if you don't have cancer, don't expect to be treated like a cancer patient.
Argument two: "Trans men aren't the same as cis men."
This argument was made by a trans man who claimed to be a "lesbian," who claimed that he saw trans men differently from cis men, because trans men had to build their own man rather than have one handed to them for free. Completely fair, I understand where this argument is coming from. However, the definition of a lesbian is still non-men loving non-men (nmlnm)
If anything, this person says that trans men are more manly than cis men. But, going by that logic, then cis men should be allowed to call themselves lesbians and trans men shouldn't, because cis men would be closer to being non-men.
might've worded this one weirdly, sorry
Argument three: "Trans men once had girlhood."
Yes, this is true. Trans men were raised in accordance with the way that women and young girls were raised. Trans men had undoubtedly had girlhood at one point in their life, that I won't deny.
But not only does this make trans men seem more like women, it makes trans women seem more like men. This argument basically chalks up a person to who they used to be, basically saying that "well, he used to be a girl, so he might as well still be one." This argument also makes it so that trans women can't call themselves lesbians, because they would still "basically be men" based on this logic. It's like chalking someone up to some embarrassing stuff they did in middle school, even if they've grown into a better person.
Figured I'd put this here; with all the different gender identities, I developed a system to show which masc genders can identify as lesbians and which ones can't: The fraction system
For example: being bigender would be 2/1 as a fraction, which would be improper. Because it's more than one, the person would be able to identify as a lesbian. A demiboy can't identify as a lesbian, as it's half and half when it comes to gender (one half non-binary, one half man), so the equation would be 0.5 + 0.5 = 1. Because the "parts" of the gender can be measured rationally, the person can't identify as a lesbian. This is why genderfluid and multigender people can identify as a lesbian, because the gender isn't always one whole part, and is irrationally measured, never fully adding up to 1.
All in all, these arguments do much more harm to the community than good, especially the trans part of the community, which is the most endangered part of the LGBTQ at the moment. I'm all for "letting people identify how they want," whether their identity is the most simple thing known to the human race, or if it's too confusing for anyone else to understand, but there are some things a person just can't do.

I know that people are just gonna be homophobic, but I just think that this specific argument is giving people more ways to harass people in the queer community. Again, I'm really sorry if I'm coming off as hostile, I feel like I've personally provoked you with my statements and opinions in some way judging by your responses, please let me know if I'm being disrespectful to you.

There's no fuckin way people are saying colored hair is ruining the community... /lh
As for your last point, straight men claiming that they can "fix" lesbians is already something that lesbian people have to deal with enough. If we let men call themselves lesbians, I feel like it's only going to reinforce that belief (for lack of a better word)

I'm not trying to police anything? I'm just saying that it's kind of, like... Actually harming the community. I'd be happy to give more clarification if you need it. Also I'm sorry if I came off as aggressive, it was super late at night when I made this post, that's my bad.

This is reminding me of the whole "semibisexual" thing that happened a few years ago. Where someone is "bisexual" but only attracted to one gender. The notion is ridiculous, right? Why? Because it blatantly ignores the whole purpose of using the term bisexual. Again, lesbian is defined as non-men loving non-men, or more generalized as women loving women by the media. If we allow men to use this label, it defeats the whole purpose.
