CARMEN LIDIA VIDU looks around and searches for stories, people and bribes of history with a small "h", which she brings to theatre and film audiences in artistic forms that generate emotion. Carmen Lidia Vidu is the only Romanian director to have won both GOPO and UNITER, the Romanian film and theater awards for best directing. She won the latter in 2021 for directing “Jurnal de România. 1989” (“Romanian Diary. 1989”, National Theatre "I.L. Caragiale" Bucharest), about the history with a capital "h" of the Romanian Revolution; the former, she won it in 2015 for the film “O scurtă istorie Astra Film” (“A Brief History of Astra Film”). In 2021, she is also (only) the third female director in the history of post-Revolution Romanian theatre to win a UNITER Award. Online, she is a strong feminist voice, an opinion leader who speaks out on socio-political, cultural, civic issues, on authentic people and places she discovers in her documentaries.

O scurtă istorie a Festivalului George Enescu
The “George Enescu” Festival is the biggest classical music festival in Romania and one of the most prestigious events of this sort in the world. It is dedicated to the great composer and violinist George Enescu, the most notable Romanian musician, in Bucharest’s famous concert halls. The festival made its debut in September 1958, three years after the artist’s death, and continued more or less regularly until 2001, when it was decided that the editions should be held once every two years. Throughout time, the stages of the festival vibrated to the tunes of the most famous orchestras in the world. The philharmonics of Los Angeles, Moscow, London, Vienna or the Royal Orchestra in Stockholm, symphonic and chamber orchestras all over the world gave unique representations, enchanting the melomaniacs. Thousands of artists of incontestable value, composers, conductors, soloists and instrumentalists all together have turned the “George Enescu” Festival into a complex and extremely varied event, a genuine celebration of music. Young artists are invited to participate in the “Enescu” Contest, a competition both challenging and full of satisfactions. The four dedicated sections are: violin, violoncello, piano and composition and the jury is made of consecrated musicians. The most virtuous contestants will perform with the professionals, an experience facilitating their career ascension. With each edition, the program of the festival is structured into distinct sections, with the ever-present The Great Orchestras of the World, The Midnight Concerts, Chamber Recitals and Concerts, Enescu and his Contemporaries, Opera and Ballet.  Furthermore, music geniuses are paid homage with outstanding representations. For three weeks, the “George Enescu” Festival turns Bucharest into the capital of classical music in the world. Elegant, full of energy and creative spirit, it promotes our cultural values in a distinguished atmosphere which wins you over from the first day. Discover pure happiness on classical music tunes!

During the lockdown that followed the outburst of the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, the Austrian Cultural Forum in Bucharest invited 60 artists from both countries to talk about their own future, as well as about the transformations their art could undergo during this period and after the end of the health crisis. The short videos they sent were posted on the ACF Bucharest and Radio România Cultural pages on the social networks. Very quickly, they caught the attention of tens of thousands of people in both countries. Based on this success, the ACF Bucharest team decided to entrust to the locally very well-known Romanian film and theater director, Carmen Lidia Vidu, the production of a documentary gathering excerpts of all these artists’ videos.
