And it's especially funny coming from the native English speakers bc English is famous for not using the latin alphabet as it is but making its own exceptions for exceptions, rendering its use of letters as illogically useless so you have to learn each word by heart. like spelling bees are not a thing in most languages bc there's supposed to be a logic how you write words, you don't have to learn them separately. So it's pretty rich of anglophones to ridicule Gaeilge spelling.

I think the place where so many of these “hyperfemininity but make it empowering” ideas fail is the assumption that men care about your interiority. Like “I present myself as a bimbo but I’m actually a full, self-aware, empowered person with thoughts and ideas”, yeah they don’t give a shit though. Every woman who has been made out as a bimbo or a sexpot or a Playboy bunny is a full entire person, with thoughts and experiences and opinions and feelings of her own. It’s not subverting anything to pretend that’s an innovation and that the new, ~empowered~ bimbo is separate from ye olde pinup girl. like if there were reliable actual biomarkers that could be used to diagnose psychiatric diseases, they wouldn't be called psychiatric diseases. they would be called neurological diseases. bc neurology is evidence based science that deals with the brain unlike psychiatry.

-Seeing the nude human body is inherently traumatic -Sex scenes in art are pointless -Wearing kink-related clothing in public is the similar to performing a sex scene in front of unwilling participants -Depicting female characters expressing sexuality is always degrading -People's sexual fantasies are always an endorsement of the behavior they want to see in real life -Sex work is more traumatic and coercive than other types of work The goal is to treat sex as just another thing people do. That is a much healthier attitude than hiding it! It's not uniquely traumatic, it's not weird to talk about it or include it in society.

but even when the substance had on point critique on anti age culture, in the end it still invited us to laugh and judge a malformed person who wanted to be pretty and loved. in the story the victim of this industry was still an object of ridicule and morally bad for pursuing beauty bc they were "too greedy" or too desperate to play by the rules. But who sets the rules? Punishing women for vanity is an ancient narrative and I personally found film's perspective pretty stale and the almost fairytale like lesson pretty conservative.

honestly more media should portray the anti aging industry as horrific and decidedly unhuman. it IS body horror it IS grotesque it DOES go against nature. it WILL kill you. yes.

to me it's honestly a big mystery how bhood is better at anything than the original anime. people say it's better bc it follows the manga but how is the story in the manga better than in the 03 anime? they say the animation is better even though if you compare same scenes in the anime, 03 stands out in details, direction of animation, lighting, expressions, character design etc etc. bhood has static shots that are like barely moving copies of the manga panels (until they use the whole budget in one big fight scene) and i think nobody can honestly claim Arakawa is particularly good at drawing faces. then they say the ending is better. like as if big monster god complex is something groundbreaking. it's a very generic shonen trope. then they say the female characters are better but they mainly mean the blonde darwinist cop with a sword (and forget that the main villain in 03 is a woman and Lust is a Person). if someone with a good taste or at least some critical thinking skills could point out what is better in bhood exactly.

fma 2003 ran so fmab could also run. we would not even have fmab if 03 wasnt so successful and beloved. fmab’s budget came from 03′s success. 03 even had its 14ish-episode epilogue miniseries cut into one movie so that they could get started on fmab. i have no patience for people who act like 03 is bad. i dont even have patience for the mindset of “03 walked so fmab could run.” no. fma 03 ran. it ran very differently from fmab, so that we wouldn’t have two of the same thing twice, and everyone is going to have a preference to one’s approach/style/story over the other. but 03 ran. it ran hard.
