"How–how are you?" James asked timidly. And was he blushing?

Lily crossed her arms and cocked an eyebrow. "Just peachy, Potter." She peered around him, eyeing Harry. "So...you appear to have doubled?"

James flickered his gaze between Harry and Lily, drawing a deep breath. Then he glanced over at his friends for backup. "Yeah, about that..."

"You'll want to sit down for this, Lily." Remus called gently from across the room.

Lily exhaled wearily, blowing a strand of red hair that had fallen from the knot atop her head. Two Sev's, two Potters, and twenty years in the future...nothing could shock her at this point.

"Evans," James began...nervously?

As Lily eyed him, she realized he seemed rather bashful.

Normally Potter's head is the size of a hot air balloon...and why was he fidgeting so much?

"Well—I had no idea," James said sincerely, "we're in the future, so obviously, I'd have no way of knowing..."

"Obviously," Lily said slowly.

James swallowed and she wondered if his hand was permenantly affixed to his hair, the way he kept running it back and forth.

"We—that is to say, me and you—" he coughed, "you and I—"

"You're making me nervous, Potter." Lily said, knitting her eyebrows.

"Spit it out, Prongs." Black agreed eagerly.

James now looked hopefully at Harry. "Harry is—well, he's..."

"He's your son?"

"Er, yeah..." James rubbed the back of his neck. He threw Harry an affectionate grin. "Yeah, he is."

Lily took another bite of chocolate, a smile tugging at her lips. She squinted her eyes and tilted her head, assessing both Harry and James.

"Hmm..." she said after a moment. "Nope. I don't see it."

"The Hungarian Horntail," Moony asked curiously, "what did he look like?"

"She," Harry told him. "She was all black with a spiked tail, and massive—way bigger than the other dragons—"

"Other dragons?" Wormtail squeaked.

"Er, yeah." Harry swallowed, avoiding Wormtail's eyes this time. "There was one for each of us. Each person competing, I mean."

"And what did you have to do?" James asked, in total admiration.

"Get a golden egg from her nest—"

"And you're alive?" Wormtail gasped.

"Obviously, Wormtail," Padfoot said.

"But you keep skipping over the best part!" James protested. "How did you do it?"

"Well, I summoned my broom." Harry said.

James burst into a giant grin. "Of course!" He punched the air victoriously. "That is so cool!"

Harry grinned too. "It was terrifying, actually."

"My idea, I bet," James puffed up his shoulders proudly. "That's exactly what I would've done!"

"So that's what you're fantasizing about when you clean your broomstick," Padfoot smirked.

I get so emotional when writing Encounters of the Future Sort. I just posted chapter 22 so here's some spoilers to ease my terrible cliffhanger habit, before we all fall over the edge 😊

PLEASE do not read below the cut unless you want EotFs spoilers!!!

1. I'm writing two endings to this fic. One will be canon compliant, the other will be canon divergent.

2. It probably goes without saying at this point that this fic will never bash any characters.

3. Sev will sort out his priorities and Lily will forgive him. I won't give any more than that away, but it'll happen reguardless of the ending. Which is cryptic lol but I promise it'll make sense eventually.

4. Those were really my main points for writing this, but my ask is always open. I may or may not give you a direct answer...but either way I'll be tempted to.

Hi all ~

An Encounters of the Future Sort update—because I realize it's been almost a month since I posted the last chapter.

I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with the holidays. I recently started a new job too, so I've been fumbling to get comfy with that routine (Love the job! Just new people and whatnot).

Super excited to find the time to write again but until then, sending you all my love <3 It can be an emotional time of year, so I hope you find the time to take care of yourself too, and enjoy the little moments this season brings ‧ ₊ ˚ ‧ ₊ ‧

I'll be hanging lights and hopefully baking some fun things. Always looking for new ideas for stuff to make, I like experimenting lol. I think I'm gonna whip up some mini meat pies with butter crust and find something to put a block of cream cheese in next (can't go wrong right?). Totally here for any new recipe ideas! My ask is always open :)
