If You Jump, I Jump
Have you ever had one of those moments where God shows you how simple life really is? It may not be easy ... but, the concept is simple. He showed me one yesterday; and, I've decided, I will not have another "boyfriend."
Before yesterday, the term single was very isolating. The term wife sounded like prison. However, "girlfriend" was comfortable ... and, being only 24, that term sounded appropriate.
Yesterday, a girlfriend of mine said, "Hmm... I'm ready for a change. I'm thinking I could use a boyfriend." I answered with, "Sounds like fun to me." Later, I asked myself, "What about having a boyfriend is fun?" My other girlfriends cry about their relationships because it doesn't meet expectations. I personally walked away from two relationship lasting 4 years. I have other friends who have dated a buffet of people with no intentions of marriage. So what is it about a boyfriend that constitutes as fun?
In today's society, dating has become the new married life. And, why not? Two people can have guilt-free sex, no financial obligation, and only have to commit to what works for now. But what about life decisions? What about unplanned pregnancies? What about when things change and get hard? At what point in a dating relationship do the "I" statements change to "we?" And the "me" comments to "us?"
This was the realization I had about God's intentions for a simple life. This is why it worked for our grandparents. They found a mate and courted a few months and then got married. Sex was intended for marriage. Life decisions were meant to include both parties because those two people became one couple. The flowers and chocolates and late night movies on the couch ... doesn't that sound like the honeymoon phase -- the first year of marriage for Grams & Gramps?
Society today has hidden the thought that we can live out our lives with 4 year relationships. Once they go sour, throw them out and get something new! The heartache can be covered with new infatuation. But, actually, it's a scam. You never forget them. Despite the hardships, you will always remember the fun times and the laughs. You'll compare men but scream when they mention they're ex-girlfriend. You'll probably spend months stalking them on Facebook. And, I guarantee you will keep something of theirs -- a shirt, a necklace, a photograph -- just to have a material memory of that part of your life.
I believed Society's lie about dating. My two cents: it sucks. I don't want a boyfriend, I want a husband. I don't want 50%, I want a man until he dies. I don't want opportunities for personal success, I want to focus on the greater good of a relationship. I don't want just the honeymoon phase, I want to find ways to stoke the fire back up to a blaze! I want to be all in. I don't want confusion about relationship status expectations, I want a ring and a minister to hear us promise ourselves for life.
If you jump, I jump.
