Cliff of Death 2 - Deniro Ferrar (Prod. Young God of BSBD)

The tape that started it all has been rebirthed* for the disciples of the cult leader, Deniro Farrar. The tape largely encompasses the themes of the original: the struggle for success and the determination to get there, never backing down, putting on for your city and family. Farrar has a masterful way of telling his story of street life, of riding strapped, selling drugs, and parenthood. Same Ole Shit loops the struggle of all underrepresented people, “It’s a brand new day, same ole shit, just another hood ni**a trynna get rich. Everybody hurting...”. The tape communicates pain and struggle and evokes anger in the listener; complacency is non-existent. In a war, battles can last a day, but the war can last years and we must withstand the pain. The sound of heavy breathing on Farrar’s last track, So Long, acts as a reminder that the journey to the top is long but we must keep pushing, and Deniro Farrar is leading the charge.  The 7 song tape features a friend of both Deniro Farrar and BSBD, Nacho Picasso, who always brings his own intensity. Mack Shine and Duruthaking are also featured on the tape. 

*The original tape and Farrar’s live performance with BSBD inspired this blog, and the new tape has brought me out of hibernation to make this post. So go show your support and pick up the tape!

Download: Dowrong & Eric Dingus - The Dowrong EP

Finally some new music worth posting about. This track is just a sample off the Dowrong and Eric Dingus collab tape. The tape is put out under Eric Dingus' label Dream Sequence Records. Dingus has a growing reputation as one the best producers in the underground game thanks to his growing rapper contributions and signing to OVO (Drake's Label), 

Dowrong's lyrics go hard over Dingus' dark and heavy hitting instrumentals. He is definitely a rapper with lyrical ability in a time of abandonment of real flow. This track is a total embodiment of the music this site covers, an ethereal sound with divine lyricism to match.

Xavier Wulf - Blood Shore Season 2

This is the follow up project to Blood Shore Season 1. This is a lone Wulf tape except for one feature with Chris Travis. The production is on point. The samples are down tempo, but as usual, Wulf comes in heavy.

DARK SOLO - Dvrk Lxxd & Kaine Solo

Dark Lord the legend, in collaboration with the masterful producer, Kaine Solo, have brought us a full length mixtape of darkness. Learn the true meaning of swanging with this 17 track tutorial. Including 10 never before heard tracks. My personal favorites so far include The Intro 2 Swanging, Hiding and Colorful Dimension. I really cannot think of a better producer/rapper combo in the rap game. I would not be surprised if they turned out to be the same person (they aren't). DVRK LXXD (Dark Lord) is a new legend on the forefront of underground mastery. He has familiar influences in his music that create a sound all his own. A quick comparison would reference Xavier Wulf, but the two are far from the same. My favorite thing about Dark Lord is his voice. His voice casts a dark shadow over the pleasant nostalgia you feel when hearing the memorable samples in his beats. He draws heavily from his anime and video game influences, which fuel his rhymes and sample selection. Fittingly, his songs feature titles like Yu-Gi-Oh, Hentai Gxd, Asian Chicks & Anime, Kagome, and Sailor Scout. 

It can't be stressed enough how much work Dark Lord is putting in. He has 144 songs up on his Soundcloud, that includes many self produced tracks; and a lot of them are available to download. On his bandcamp you can get his instrumental tapes made with samples from Biohazard, Zelda, and Final Fantasy. And as if music wasn't enough, he is also working on writing a horror novel. 

The featured song PS2 is produced by Kaine Solo, the same producer responsible for Wulf & Kray's Tamagatchi. In fact, Dark Lord has a collab tape with Kaine Solo that has been in the works for some time and is due to be released very soon. Let's just say it is a good time to start following the senpai and become an active pupil in the Swang Gang.

SESHOLLOWATERBOYZ TOUR RECAP

The Oakland night of this tour must have been their best performance to date. Last night was my third time seeing them and this last show was by far their best. Eddy Baker was the first of the crew to perform. Representing the Healthy Boyz in his new VVERYSPECIAL brand shirt. He got everyone hyped. Admittedly I don’t know too much of his work but he definitely inspired me to learn more. The moshing started the second he hit the stage. Next up was Ethel Wulf. As expected the crowd went crazy, it seemed like people knew more of his songs than others. He performed “Dear Haters,” “Who The Fuck Is You,” and some others including some featuring Bones and Travis. He dove off stage, he sang in the crowd, he proved why he is the Führer. Bones went up next. He and Wulf did some songs off of Lame, they sang “Moshpits,” and Bones did some solo tracks that went super hard but I can’t name. But goddam Bones has some strong vocal chords.  Last but not least was Chris Travis. Let me start by being honest, I have been thinking Travis is releasing music too fast so the content is a little watered down. Because of that I was nervous to see what he would perform, but he blew all my insecurities out of the water. He performed “Tropical”, “Sip that Shit,” “Memphis to LA,” some other songs I can’t remember; and to my absolutely surprise, a second song off of Codeine & Pizza, the hardest slap on the tape, “Player’s Palace.” I thought Travis’ setlist was on point. It was a variety of old and new, each track was a fan favorite. To me it seemed like Chris Travis stole the show at the end. And just when it felt like he did, Bones and Wulf rejoined him for a finally as they all performed “WeDontBelieveYou.”

When it was all over Bones hoped on the mic to say “I think Touche Amore and Title Fight would be proud.” I thought it was a pretty special moment because it revealed some of Bones’ music interests and I think the two genres go together pretty well. I love both Touche and TF, and there seemed to be some other hardcore fans at the show.

After the show they all stayed to talk and take pictures with fans. I got to speak to each one them. And all I can say from that experience is they are a humble group guys. Their personas are vicious but like water, their souls are pure. They are all a family and they treat their fans as family too. I have so much respect for them. They inspire me to run this blog. They deserve all the success in the world. 

**That’s not me with Travis. That kid just seemed hella friendly and the picture turned out.

Day 8. This song is some real underground shit made by a real underground king. Shouts out to all the rappers who know what it means to stay true to the underground. Big Wulf has definitely drawn the attention of the whole rap industry. His unique sound and style is one the mainstream would love to capitalize.
