this isn't even "it's free so chill out". As we say in my household, "George RR Martin is not your bitch." And neither is Pat Rothfuss (who, fun fact, i hung out with a con before he was famous and he's just lovely). No author owes you anything, no artist owes you anything. If you really think they do... take a long hard look at your soul and how you see the world and other people. You might not like what you see, but there's always time to change.

hey, just as a btw, a fic or a series not uploading for a year doesn't mean its abandoned.

Sometimes the authors have shit going on, other wips, or! it just needs to sit and marinate for a bit. Collecting all the flavor and details it wouldn't have otherwise.

And if you're impatient? Why not leave a nice comment telling us (the author(s)) what you love about the fic or series? say that you love it, and are "waiting eagerly for the next chapter" and/or that you "would love to see x or y happen because it would mean-"

This could be a new fandom vibe because of all the "i have to drop this while people are still interested" energy, but its not universal, and i don't believe its good for the fandom ecosystem.

Have patience, and have compassion. Remember that authors are human and these fics? (or comics, animatics, whatever) This is our art. We care about it just as much, if not more than you.

When encountering someone stuck in an Apology Loop, I do not uselessly ask, or worse, demand that they “stop apologizing.”

Rather, I have found it much more useful to affect a theatrical tone and formally “absolve” them. “Like a Renaissance pope, I absolve you, my child.” Usually the combination of having the absurdity of the situation highlit, combined with a touch of physiological release if I can get a laugh, is enough to soothe their nerves a bit and get them to break the loop. And who knows maybe they feel absolved I dunno I have an authoritative bearing

the complete tonal shift between scar and gem's videos is absolutely killing me. an apocalyptic horror thriller flick about a killer immortal snail that keeps you constantly on the edge of your seat vs a coming of age slice of life film about a girl and her snail overcoming their differences and learning to get along 🩷 heartwarming 🩷

also ANYONE, get a passport. i don't care if you don't have plans to leave the country, it's a fucking while to get one (unless you do crazy expediting), and what if...man what if it's not terrible, what if you won a trip to Vienna? Get your passport.

[edit: technically you can get appointments and spend money to get emergency international travel passports but still.]

Also if you lose your state ID, you're still a person! I've let mine expire (oops) and I was still able to fly!

Me and my spouse's passports are about to expire and we need one for the baby, really wish I'd dealt last month.
